You never actually know how your draft picks will develop, and I'd suggest that only Ablett is an out and out superstar and a massive win for them. Fraser is crap, Bock is old and injured, and Brown and Harbrow are not going to make any structural difference. They are basically us 3 years ago. They're starting from scratch but with the exception of having a star player already in the mix (who is going to be tagged within an inch of his life). They need to develop key position forwards and backs, they need to develop a solid midfield and they need to ensure they don't completely overwork their 17 year olds. It's not going to be as simple as "we've had 10 top picks in one year so we're ahead of teams that have been rebuilding for 3 years". You've still got to put the time into developing these kids. There is no magic formula to rush that process, and they need every single one of their draft picks to turn into a star if they're going to be winning a flag in a couple of years. Reality tells us that won't happen.

Tim Harrington is on Trade Week Radio at 3.30pm

Why would clubs even bother asking about two of our best young kids in Watts (just signed 3 year deal) and Trengove (2 years remaining on contract)? WTF?! -
I... I don't even know what to say about this thread anymore. So here is a picture instead.

Playing on in the goal square is equivalent to using the withdrawal method as a form of contraception. Seems like a good idea in the moment, but often leads to epic life failures.
-
I'm sure it's boredom and footy withdrawals, but seriously, 17 pages on D. Hale? Never has so much been said about a possible trade since C. Moneybags Judd. And to whoever compared this to the St Kilda trade of last year, please! Ball was an experienced player and a key midfielder, and last year's draft wasn't getting the shite kicked out of it by Gold Coast. We're looking at trading draft places, when our list is already full of first round starts in the making. And maybe we'll trade a fringe player, but we won't be losing key members of our starting 18, and we won't be trading in bad characters who'll end up on rape charges (you'd hope). Our club has done little wrong in the last three years. Don't see why they'd start screwing up now. P.S.- Leigh Brown was very important to Collingwood this year, and he sucks a hell of a lot more than Hale probably could/will.
-
At 16 pages a topic, I'd expect a controversial trade like Grimes for Hale. We have so little to lose by doing this deal, that I really don't see the need to fret about it. If he is no good, it won't in any way delay our premiership run.
-
So you think the club went "poor Meesen, we feel sorry for him, let's put him on the payroll for the hell of it". I'm sure he has shown enough credentials to those that matter in order to score the job, and good on him. Some of the poorest players make the best coaches.

*happy dance*

I'll explode, and be so dellusionally happy that I'll probably proceed to get drunk and get "I love Liam Jurrah" tattooed on my chest. It's going to be epic. Now all we've gotta do is keep developing our list, find a back up ruck, come up with a premiership winning game plan, keep our list healthy, make the top 4, make a grand final then win a grand final. Too easy

There will be no argument from me on this point!

Hahaha, let's agree that we both hate Carlton and Collingwood with a passion, as we are genetically modified to do.
-
There is never much logic in passionate hate, but Carlton make my skin crawl. Their supporters, their hierarchy and management, their players, their captain. They just make my blood boil with rage and disgust. I take pleasure in their misery. Collingw&%$ winning is painful, but I'd take a Collingw&%$ victory over a Carlton victory any day.
-
Great to hear. They could do worse, especially in terms of leadership off the field. All the best to him!!!
-
I hate Collingw&%$, but I can respect what they have managed to do with their club (I hope we win a flag with a list as mediocre as theirs!). Plus for as long as I have been alive, they haven't interfered with our push for success. Carlton on the other hand, I have no respect for. They are arrogant with no cause, they try to buy success and think they are entitled, despite being the worst team of the past decade. They have also managed to screw us numerous times over the past few seasons. I F'ING HATE THEM with an absolute passion, and no team would be less worthy of experiencing success.
-
Carlton, the evil cheating scumbags, winning a flag would be a bigger travesty.

Perfectly summed up!

Wellman Resigns after signing new contract
Jaded No More replied to Alf Stewart's topic in Melbourne Demons
Only if the club starts implementing "punch the assistant coach" round. -
Oh no. Please don't let this be true. Anyone in a Carlton jumper instantly becomes scum! Argh just [censored] the hell off Carlton!!!
-
Very hard to begrudge Ablett when he has given so much to Geelong and was faced with such an enormous amount of money. Plus, unlike some greedy turncoats, at least he was honest about the money being a big factor in his decision making. None of us would turn down that sort of money.

I bloody love these threads. They are like crack to an addict, bad for you, yet so addictive you can't stop reading it. Thanks Nudge.

Wellman Resigns after signing new contract
Jaded No More replied to Alf Stewart's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think the players who play down there have a fair bit to do with the strength of the backline. Obviously we need to find an adequate replacement, but Wellman's departure won't suddenly turn Frawley, Garland, Rivers, MacDonald and so forth into terrible players.
