I’m not. Premierships are won in defense and May and Lever are as good as any premiership winning backline of the last decade.

I just want to clarify that I still believe Weideman can be a good AFL player. But his issue isn’t at VFL level. He needs to spend some time working with someone on his confidence and aerial marking in packs. One game at VFL level won’t fix the issues we’ve seen at senior level the last 5 weeks. For me the issue with BB is fitness. He’s proven over a long period of time that he can mark and kick. I think if he’s been training to build his fitness and can run out a game in the VFL he should come in and play a 4 week block in the senior side and we need to try to make that work. I’m not sure we can win finals with Tmac and Fritsch. You’re asking too much from two players who are not natural FFs.

There is a clear pattern emerging this season. When we play equally good teams we are able to beat them one on one. When we play lower sides who come out clearly worried about beating us rather than winning the game, we struggle. Remember when we were a poor side and we’d come up against a top team and your main worry was negating the opposition and keeping the scores low so you can stay in the game for long periods of time? Well this is what is happening to us now. Opposition teams try to choke the game because they know that in a “shoot out” they lose. Luckily we have a strong defensive system in place that is very hard to penetrate which is why we won. Essendon were never going to win playing like they did and kicking such a low score, hoping we would kick a lower score. Our defense is 100 times better than theirs. Hence the marks inside 50 differential even without a single forward of ours having a good night. Games like we saw last night are not how our finals opponents will play. And I think it’s also human nature for players to be at their best against the best opponents. I’ve been super impressed with how we’ve played against top sides and that is what counts in finals. Having said that we need another tall forward target stat.

Highlight was walking away with the 4 points and a bottle full of Essendon tears

Essendon played slow footy and pushed players back because they knew in an open contest we would destroy them. Mediocre teams will do that against us because they can’t beat us another way. But good teams won’t play this defensive garbage. The games against Richmond Dogs and Brisbane were just good contested one on one footy. And we won them all.

Look I’ll never watch the highlight reel. But I’ll remember fondly crushing Essendon’s finals hope and staying top of the ladder.

Really? I just don’t understand the negativity. He’s played just a handful of games and he’s holding a key defensive post. He’s playing well. Least of our problems.

Ben Brown needs to play. I think we can all agree that Tmac needs to play as a high leading forward and Fritsch at full forward won’t get us many marks or goals. We need to give Brown a solid run in the seniors.
