Or the fact that Lynch got off a few weeks ago for a much cruder spoil, or the fact that Fogarty wasnât even cited in a spoil that resulted in a facial injury to his opponent. Letâs just conveniently shaft a player that has played 6 games playing for a club that traditionally doesnât pull the big angry mob crowds. Nobody will notice. Nobody will care. AFL read the room wrong. I hope we fight this and I hope we get a decent bloody lawyer not another AFL fanboy.

Because heâs an ex footballer, and a coach, not some washed up lawyer who doesnât understand football. Anyone who has ever played the game at this level is genuinely bewildered by this result. The only people who got on their high horse and tried hanging JVR are weasel commentators who would [censored] their pants if they had to play AFL. I am all for stamping out dangerous and unnecessary actions in our game. No player should suffer concussion as a result of an off the ball hit. Thatâs not fair play. But every player is well aware of the risks involved with playing the game at any level, let alone at the highest level. And no player would ever think twice about reasonably assessing in the 0.6 seconds they realize they need to spoil a high ball, that they might get hurt or their opponent might get hurt in doing so.

I want us to appeal for the sheer fact that no big club would stand for this rubbish. I am sick of no name players from smaller clubs being used as a pawn in the AFL's latest games. If we don't stand up against this and fight it, we are saying to the AFL that they can keep using our players to make an example, when the reality is, not a single AFL player is watching this suspension and thinking next time they won't go for the spoil.

Every other commentator who hung JVR prior to the suspension was allowed to have an opinion. So can Jones post tribunal I guess. And for those saying itâs a good chance to rest Roo, this is completely besides the point. What if this weekend was a final and the player in question was Oliver? If we donât fight this charge we are setting a precedent we donât want to deal with later down the track when it really matters.

To be fair the Kosi bump, although no injury was sustained, is so so so much worse than JVRâs spoil, that itâs actually laughable that those two ended up with the same penalty. Itâs absolutely incomparable actions. One was totally unnecessary and off the ball. One was in play and IN THE RULES. One had the intention to hurt and one had the intention to contest the ball. If we donât appeal this Iâll be very upset and if we donât win the appeal Iâll know for sure that the AFL is corrupt. Can you imagine Jeremy Cameron, Scott Pendlebury, or Lachie Neale getting suspended for this same action in September? No you couldnât, because it would NEVER happen. The AFL makes up rubbish rulings every week to suit whatever dumb agenda they want to push at the time, and young no name players from small clubs suffer as a result.

This whole âyou looked at him for 0.3 seconds makes you guiltyâ is just the dumbest argument Iâve heard. If players donât look over at their opponent in play, can you imagine how many horrific head clashes and other impact injuries weâd see every week?! Are players meant to play blind?

He's suggesting it looks bad for JVR because he took his eyes off the ball. I'd argue that JVR's peripheral vision is good enough to suggest that he knew an opponent was there, and had he not looked over at him to judge the positioning of said opponent, he would have flattened him and probably himself too. He showed duty of care by looking over to judge how to approach the contest. Nowhere in the rule book does it say you can't look at your opponent while attempting to spoil. In fact, I am sure most footballers directly look at their opponent and the ball while going for a spoil, or a lot more players would end up giving away high contact free kicks. You can see in the replay that JVR tries to adjust his arm, which is fully stretched out by the way, to avoid contact with Ballard, which is why he ends up approaching it so awkwardly and his other arm almost loops over the top of Ballard. If JVR wanted to hurt Ballard, he would have approach the contest completely differently, and he would have really hurt him.
