Farewell Clayton Oliver
We are not moving on Clarry because we CAN'T afford to pay him, we are moving him on because WE DON'T want to pay him That is vastly different, and how much we don't want to pay him versus how much we want a good return, is what remains to be seen We will know once the deal goes through if paying less or getting more back was the focus for us / GWS

Lucky for them they only have 27 members to answer to, and 25 of them are drunk on XXXX beer She'll be right

I don't think the reports are correct, I think we'd rather take less for him but also pay less of his salary If we are paying $700k per year for him to play for the Giants, then I expect we get pick 12. If it's a pick in the 30s, I expect us to pay around $300k a year for him A pick in the 30s in this year's draft is equivalent to a 4th rounder in most other drafts

I don't think they are, because we have told them all along we won't be trading Trac for picks alone. IF they can involve a West Coast and we walk away with pick 2, then it's perhaps a different story, but unfortunately for them Flanders picked St Kilda, and they have very little else to negotiate with other than Humphrey, who WANTS to come home. Especially because they need high point value picks to get not one but two top 10 academy boys. They won't get their boys with picks 87 and 102. We are not exactly going to them and saying it's Anderson or nothing. We are offering them a fair deal for a kid who clearly wants to move back to Victoria, and who will net them a lot less when he leaves as an OOC player. Do they want a McVee like return for him in 3 years time when he requests a trade to the premiers who hold pick 18? Or do they want a return for him now in the form of Trac, who they have just a one week window to grab?

Not yet... and we have no idea what Humphrey is saying behind closed doors Trac is 29 and not a flight risk in the sense of needing to go home We can keep this play for Humphrey going for the next 3 years, as can other clubs

Nah, we have already come out and said Trac is a star, and we want him to stay, so unless someone blows us away with an offer, he's not going anywhere Cameron essentially took a big dig at Humphrey. We need to not play that game, and remain steadfast that we love and support Trac and would have zero issues keeping him at Melbourne, because he is a loved member of our team and not a petulant child as Cameron basically suggested Humphrey is (That not being the truth is irrelevant!)

A better tactic would be for Humphrey's manager to come out and say: "we understand that Bailey signed a contract, and when he signed it his family circumstances were different. We have told Gold Coast why Bailey needs to return home, and we hope they would do the right thing by the kid and let him get back home to family" You have to flip the narrative, and make it seem like GC are stopping a kid from going home on compassionate grounds, DESPITE there being a good trade solution on the table that gets everyone what they want. Lets see how this plays out

But also we won’t pay anything of value for him Get your hand off it CAC

Sounds like Gold Coast want to eat their cake, while also enjoying Petracca’s pasta Time to blow [censored] up Bailey. Start talking about why you need to get back home. Make CG look insensitive and cruel and force their hand

Bailey Humphrey
Literally not our problem, or Gold Coasts Hawks and Essendon can go take a long hike off a short pier
-
Bailey Humphrey
And Humphrey stays at GC GC don’t want to trade Humphrey for Trac, much less for picks or some kid they don’t need and give their direct competitor a leg up in the process It’s Dees for Humphrey, or he stays put

There’s only 2 scenarios IMO where this deal doesn’t happen Scenario 1: Humphrey says he doesn’t want to be trade to our club, as is his right as a contracted player, and we either settle for picks or refuse Trac’s trade request Scenario 2: Gold Coast decide they’d rather keep Humphrey, despite being a major flight risk, over getting Trac Unlike Trac, Humphrey has a long career ahead. We can keep coming back for him every year until he’s OOC and then throw Gold Coast a bag of chips for him. Whereas Trac is 29 with a 4 year deal still, It’s now or never for GC to get Trac

Correct And who says Cam McKenzie even wants to go to Gold Coast? And why do they need him given the youthful talent they have coming out of their butts?
-
Bailey Humphrey
Gold Coast don’t need / want any of those things They have the picks right now to get their drafting done They want Trac, does Hawthorn have Trac? The only way they may pivot, and it’s a bit may, is if they can trade Humphrey and get Curnow in exchange You don’t get a player of Trac’s ilk to publicly commit to you, only to blow the deal by trading your one negotiating asset to a different club for something you don’t want
