  1. Is there a shower where you put the banner together? If not, seems like a significant health and safety issue for you.
  2. Times have changed. It's probably being burned in some US states right now.
  3. Supporters seem to have short memories. McDonald kicked four goals and received coaches' votes just two games ago. If we were to drop players just because of a poor game last week, there are about a dozen others equally at risk.
  4. But it wasn't a fake handball. It was a genuine one. (Not sure that makes any difference, though.)
  5. Interesting story. I'm not sure, though, that I don't prefer the conspiracy theory of AFL HQ wanting Oliver to win the Brownlow. While we're analysing Oliver and the Sydney game, can anyone explain to me why Oliver's "steal" of Ladham's attempted handpass wasn't a 50 metre penalty against Oliver?
  6. Why don't you wear your rose-coloured glasses - literally, of course? That should turn the white into a nice shade of red.
  7. I think the AFL has been too slow, rather than "trigger happy". If the penalties being handed out this year were in place three years ago, players by now would have stopped engaging in dangerous tackles and head-high bumps. However, because the AFL has been too slow to act (and been inconsistent), players today have not yet learned to remove these dangerous actions from their play. I strongly believe that if the tougher stance being shown this year had been in place three years ago, Kossie would have removed the dangerous bump from his game and would not have been suspended earlier this year.
  8. No mention of any concussion for Sparrow in today's Injury Report. Gawn, Hibberd, Brown and Lever all considered possibilities to play, although all have to get through training. Spargo out, of course (and we should remember it's a minimum of one week. Whether he's good to go the following week depends on his symptoms, not the number of days since the incident.) https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/1311190/injury-report-four-demons-eye-return
  9. Even if Brown and Lever had played, we would not have won. The effort wasn't there and many of the team were just "flat". If Brown and Lever had played, and we had lost, there would be posters complaining that we were too tall given the wet conditions and that we had lost the match at selection.
  10. I am curious about Kyah Farris-White's eligibility to play in the Coates League as I thought he might be too old. I did a search "kyah farris-white age" and discovered that Google says he's apparently 123yr 3 mths old. Surely that's too old for the Coates League.
  11. I'm surprised to see how many people have lauded Viney's game. I thought he was part of the problem with his poor delivery. And the idea that he should get votes because of his effort astounds me. If that's how we award votes, Walking Civil War should get 6 every week. Oliver and Petracca were streets ahead of everybody else. 6. Oliver 5. Petracca 4. Hunter 3. McVee 2. Langdon 1. Grundy (although he was beaten overall)
  12. We looked very small last night. Having Lever, Brown, Gawn and to a lesser extent Hibberd all out helps explain that. Apart from Spargo, who will miss because of the mandatory 12 day rest because of concussion, the outs are likely to be smaller players to enable us to put forward a taller and stronger team. If they are ready, would we pick all of Lever, Brown, Gawn and Hibberd? If we assume we do, I suspect the outs might be Tomlinson (Lever), Spargo (Brown), van Rooyen (Gawn) and Bowey (Hibberd). I'd also swap Jordon for Melksham or replace Melksham as sub with someone like Laurie. I should add that unless it's wet I find it hard to imagine McDonald being dropped after being in the coaches' votes the previous week.
  13. On the other hand, you could argue that Jackson's values put family above career. That's not necessarily a bad thing.
  14. And we're all the better for it. Mind you, I've just started a sentence with a conjunction which is another no-no, so there is still room for improvement.
  15. Ashkenazi jews are historically from Yiddish speaking areas (ie, Eastern Europe) while Sephardi jews have their heritage in Spain and the Iberian peninsula. Ziggy and Glasman are clearly Germanic-European names and consistent with an Ashkenazi background. Toledo is in Spain, hence the Sephardi comment. However, as WJ has explained, there appears to be no Sephardi linkage for Glasman Just half-Ashkenazi, like Todd Goldstein.
  16. Ahh, memories. Could always get a good seat at the MCG in those days, whatever time you arrived.
  17. Surely Ziggy Toledo-Glasman will be the best name in the draft. I wonder whether he's part Sephardi (Toledo) and part Ashkenazi (Ziggy and Glasman). (This comment will make total sense to some and will be meaningless to others.)
  18. Is it still school holidays in Victoria? If so, some families may have chosen to go to Adelaide this week to combine Gather Round with the school holiday break.
  19. Maybe. If SA gets sufficient revenue to compensate them for the alleged $10 million payment it made to the AFL for the privilege. I imagine most of that revenue will be from tourism although I suspect there's likely to be an increase in business revenue as well from things such as conferences and trade shows which I assume are being held in Adelaide this week to coincide with Gather Round.
  20. You make a good point. Mind you, I suspect the SA Government would prefer less TV coverage to encourage more visitation.
  21. I'm amused by the angst associated with the TV broadcasting arrangements. It's not that long ago we were complaining that we weren't getting enough FTA because we were rubbish. We can't have it both ways. If poorer quality teams are to be given some FTA coverage, the better teams will occasionally have to miss out.
  22. Fair question. I'm an MCC member who also takes out MFC membership. I could afford to pay more, so probably would. However, my concern if the price goes up is not about me but about those who might struggle to pay more. What I don't want to see is the game being priced out of reach for many families so that we end up with the "theatre-goer" crowd rather than families that we see at games today. I think the loss of sports betting revenue creates a risk. The question is which risk do we prefer to take.
  23. I was in the car last night listening to SEN who had someone from Champion Data on. He said that Champion Data have 11 people at every game recording the stats.
