  1. We need someone who can work a miracle...
  2. My hopes are more modest. Let's hope to score more than 50 points.
  3. He's probably a better chance to win the Brownlow if he doesn't play. He may already have enough votes but if he plays he may get suspended.
  4. I prefer to look at it this way: Since 1954, we've won more Premierships than: Western Bulldogs/Footscray North Melbourne St Kilda Richmond Fitzroy/Brisbane Gold Coast GWS South Melbourne/Sydney Collingwood Geelong And we haven't merged, been relocated...and we have more free to air TV than we had before 1954. "Facts are troubling things"
  5. And here's the source: SEN 1116 ‏@SENNews 3m3 minutes ago BREAKING | Nat Fyfe will miss the last two matches of the home and away season with inflammation of his fibula 0 retweets0 favorites Reply Retweet Favorite More
  6. Fyfe out injured with "inflammation of the fibula" whatever that means.
  7. Is this a true record of a meeting of the MFC Board?
  8. You're quite right. I should have added a third group for you and me. Anyone else who wants to join our group is welcome...but they have to declare their position - that it's a pure list management decision with no bearing on the suitability of the coach - now, not after a player recruited in the last two years is cut.
  9. It will be particularly interesting to see if any of the players who move on were recruited under the Roos regime. If any are, I expect posters to be equally split between (1) those who call it an admission of failure and a reason why we should get rid of Paul Roos and (2) those who call it a courageous decision and why we are so lucky to have Paul Roos.
  10. Ha! Forced some higher case typing out of you.
  11. I recall someone (Caroline Wilson maybe?) claiming that when Peter Jackson started he wondered why we'd done such a good job with the first Field of Women event and then not followed it up. Perhaps something un-Melbourne like would be to recognise that when we're onto a good thing, stick to it. So, let's hope as a pioneer of the concept that we continue to support the Women's Competition. And let's maximise the benefits from it, such as recruiting more female members.
  12. Do we really think he's personally answering members' emails? While I'd be impressed if he's making that effort, I'd be even more unimpressed if the club wasn't using one of its myriad of employees to do it for him. It's the sort of task I would expect a Matt Burgan to be doing. As to 360, appearing in the media on a regular basis seems to me to be a positive for the club to enable continuing exposure. Whether we like it or not, a head coach has to do more than "just coach". He's expected to be the chief spruiker and generally speaking something that Roos does quite well. In short, I think it is part of his "real job" and an important one. Edit: added last line.
  13. To leave open the Mystery Injury of the Week option for every player not listed?
  14. Perhaps I should have made this comment in the negativity thread. I have absolutely no problems with what Paul Roos said (until he "clarified" it and effectively watered it down). Like any problem, you can't fix it until you recognise you have a problem. Our club oozes mediocrity and much of that is because of negative mindsets that prefer to be satisfied with brave losses than accept that you should be playing to win. Those negative mindsets are everywhere because we've been conditioned by 50 years without a Premiership, and more particularly the last 8 years without even a semblance of playing football that deserves to be praised. I looked at the ladder in the newspaper last night and my first thought was how pleasing to see that Melbourne was above four other teams. That just means I'm so conditioned to us being in the bottom two that I find not being there a "positive". In fact, of course it's not good enough and I shouldn't be accepting of it. But, we've been so bad for so long, the negativity has warped my thinking.
  15. I just assumed that the AFL had scheduled Melbourne v GWS on Fathers Day to allow us to complain once again about that former player who jumped ship and his father. If the food were to be free it might all be consumed by said father before the rest of us get a chance.
  16. "Your honour, I rise to defend Paul Roos and tender as evidence, this thread and, in fact, Demonland in its entirety. I rest my case."
  17. I think your timing might be wrong. I have a sneaking suspicion the lobotomies might have already occurred.
  18. Is it just set down for one day? (ie, are they only expecting the matter to take one day?)
  19. Not a lie, per se, but a physical impossibility: "I'm going to give it 110%"
  20. It's been a dark few days so time for some light relief. Which lies, mis-truths and half-truths are ones that consistently get trotted out? And which ones amuse you most? Mine are the following: "I don't read the newspapers" - any player or coach "I didn't see it" - any coach when asked about whether one of his players will be suspended for an in play violent act "We're not thinking about finals" - any player or coach in a team in the top 4 at the halfway point of the season "They're a good team" - any player or coach from the top 4 playing the bottom side (or Melbourne)
  21. Mongrel, I wish you'd change your avatar. Every time I see it I think I'm about to read a BBO post. Most disconcerting.
  22. The poster boy for mature age recruits appears to be Michael Barlow. How were his skills when he started in the AFL? I know he got a lot of the ball, but was he also polished with his use of it?
