Simon Goodwin - coach in waiting...
A noticible difference in game style is the extra defensive pressure we are applying when the balls in our forward half. Lock in pressure goals, and retarding the opposition from opening and initiating breaks from their half back line... Vanders, Kennedy, Garlett, Kent and Pedo all applied heaps of pressure in our forward half. a good sign.

Just watched Goodwin's post game interview - and while the players and their development gets the plaudits, I reckon we're right on track with the succession and development of our next coach. No idea what he did or said at half time but a far improved team seemed to turn up after the long break. Simon Goodwin - Post Game interview

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SAM WEIDEMAN
Hits me as a mature young man with ambition and pedigree. Just like with Jack Viney (and Gary Jnr), there's much value in being the son of a player...

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER
Big factor in him going so high is he can play mid and forward well. Taylor mentioned it in his summary and with the interchange caps, mids who can "rest" forward and damage a team are worth more than a pure mid, even if they may be silkier (i.e. as Parish appears to be). So good that we are in a position to develop him properly rather than fast track him as the new saviour for Round 1.

Be interesting to see how we develop and introduce him to AFL level footy over the next year or two. I recon he needs a couple of pre-seasons to develop the engine and strength to play as a key forward against men. I like what he should become, reminds me a bit of Matty Lloyd... here's hoping. Welcome to the MFC Sam!

It could have gotten out of the Dons bag with a guess that we'll take Oliver... Dons then take X and Y leaving us with the Wiedeman.

Darcy Parish
I think if Jesse believes that the club is so clueless that he should be directing our draft and team development strategy, he's already half way back across the Nullarbor... I'd hope the club has informed Jesse (and the other players) of our startegy and they are supportive and aligned with it, and their role in it...

That hypothetical would involve us trusting the most unethical club in Australian sport.

Parish is an Under age AA, who is seen by all as the most complete midfield of this draft. His only "weakness" is that at 181cm, he's 4 cm shorter than Simon Goodwin. Ben Cousins was 179cm...

Mate, Its Day 1 of the trade period! Yet you're claiming that we won't land a big fish? based on what? Then, you claim inside knowledge of the priorities of the FD. My claim about Melksham being "a priority" is based on the FACT that they targeted him weeks ago (publicly) and pushed through getting him on Day 1. You're quite strange.

It's evident that Milksham was targeted by the FD as a priority get, most likely several months ago, to fill a specific role in the structure that they are building. After the wins of recruiting last year and just acknowledging the professionalism by which Roos, Goodwin, Viney etc... go about selecting players to bring into the club, I've got confidence this deal will be good for us.

Delistings/trades at end of the season
Agree, the list at Tigerland looks average, but I'm not that familiar with whos who and we'd be looking at a Mid to replace a mid...

Delistings/trades at end of the season
Richmond are in an interesting space for us. They think they're close to being a contender and will therefore sacrifice high picks for ready made players that fill their perceived weaknesses. So maybe there's an opportunity for us with Tyson to Tigers... They have picks 12, 31, 49... and players? what would be acceptable for Dom?
