Hey Andy, A suggestion that may help DL viability: that all Lifetime memberships end the day we win a flag, reset, as it will have been a lifetime most have been waiting... and in the post Flag euphoria, we're all bound to sign on for another "lifetime"..? ;) -
Rating 2021 team Against 1998, 2000 & 2018

Ask me again in 2025… -
As usual, we are suffering due to the Key inability of all governments to make tough decisions beyond their next election. With CoVID, the Feds should have developed and communicated a plan and timeline as to when sufficient people will be vaccinated such that quarantine can be eased or removed... OR stated that Quarantine is here for good, vaccinations not really required and then proceeded to rapidly build medical grade quarantine centres etc... But choosing either path has issues, so they’ve chosen neither and we’re in no-mans-land with further lockdowns the inevitable and costly result. incompetence on so many levels, but primarily the Federals are the ones whose dithering is most damaging. Very hard for Victoria to defend against a virus that enters the country via SA.

Maybe they should stop the season now, and award the Premiership to the team on top? ?
-
Maybe Sam finds it hard to actually practice successful marking when paired up against May or Lever... at training. ?

No immanent WA election... all good.

I found Dermutts "analysis" that, 'aside from 8 min in the first the teams were equal' was a bizarre negative spin to put on it. As we clearly jumped them, then held them to a losing position for the rest of the game... denying them their surges with amazing defence. Would be a valid spin if it was equal scores and pressure all game, and then we broke them in the last 8 minutes... Dislike Derm quite intensely...

I'm in more familiar territory with the Demons tonight, low expectations, with a win pure bonus and a pleasant surprise given we're yet to click all over the ground this year, despite our win:loss ratio...

"Half a league, half a league, Half a league onward, All in the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. “Forward, the Light Brigade! “Charge for the guns!” he said: Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred."

Agree, there’s work to stop them overlapping, or better coordination between them if they do overlap. I suspect it will just take time to gell.

Only chance the crows have to beat us, given how solid our defence is, is to switch aggressively and try and move the ball quickly through the middle or non-dominant wing. Would risk exposing them to our counter punching, but the alternative of trying to move it along our preferred wing with May, Lever and Gawn set up to mark, is suicide by slow strangulation... Be a hard job coaching crow in this one... ?? Go Demons

I’d suggest that incident is the prime example of why Chandler was dropped, as I’m sure the coaches would have addressed that high long balls are primarily for the big boys, with the small s to be front and centre (unless you’re behind the pack and can see who’s likely and go if possible...). Experience issue for Chandler, and he’ll learn.

Tigers just aren’t that good this year... ... and they sook when they lose.

I though Jesse looked over weight and underdone fitness wise, so it appears GWS/Jesse seem to have rolled the dice coming in as soon as he did. Calf injury is possibly a let off. Hope they can get him fully fit over the off season.

A while back, Mark Williams was very effusive about Sam, comparing him with Warren Tredrea. Was curious from that point to see what Mark could see in Weid, and when it would be evident to the rest of us. Hoping he was spot on, and Sam makes his move and flourishs over the coming weeks and months. Didn’t mind his first game, and with TMac, Jackson, Fritch and Gawn lurking should get opportunities to shine. We will have a fearsome forward line when it clicks.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - LUKE JACKSON
PaulRB replied to Lord Nev's topic in Melbourne Demons
Gone a little bit under the radar, but how good is this kid, that in his second season he’s straight back in, pushing out seasoned players (Ben Brown or Weid), and no one raises an eye-brow. Mind blowing how far this young man could go in this game... -
Like to see our boys come out and play will full intensity and intent for four quarters, irrespective of what the Blues bring. Do that, and we'll win (easily) and hone the skill we'll need against the bigger boys later in the year. Dees by 50+ Go Demons

I’d have predicted we were far worse in that period... so sad for them. ?

Not wanting to derail your thread Hutchy... but I’m more interested in the question - How early is too early to sing the song (our song, A Grand Old Flag)? I sit with a rabid singer, and we love going early when we’re up in the last with a Chorus or two of it’s a grand ol flag, to bring the boys home with. But some, MFC supporters around us will look at us like we’re insane, inviting defeat or embarrassing ourselves (all valid possibilities). Sometimes others join in, and it feels really good... in as far as singing traditions to be established, this “the early singing of the club song” gets my vote. thoughts?

Look at the ladder... No# 1 team in the comp Vs No# 13 team in the comp... should be a clear win to the No# 1 team, as it usually is. The weird thing, is that we're the No# 1 Team... 50+ Go Demons

Our recruiting in both draft and trade has been exceptional with few errors, and to a deliberate plan, player types and competitive mindsets. Tomlinson Langdon May Lever Brown all pieces in a deliberate build of a finals worth team, all good pick ups and good blokes. Only Harley Bennell was a fail, and it was a worthwhile low cost gamble. Jackson Pickett Rivers From 2019 draft was like drawing three aces from a deck of cards, all now being walk up best 22 with big futures. Lots of reasons, lots of work and a bit of luck has gone into building this team to where they are today (capable of winning it), and it’s encouraging as we’ll need more to win a flag. here’s hoping... ???

TMac is up and about, playing with focus and aggression for ball and opposition, Weideman should be taking note, and upping his agro accordingly, as he's struggled to produce that level of intent for 4 quarters consistently in his career. i.e. learn to play angry.

I'd be having this conversation at the Bye, when ideally we are sitting 12-14 wins and can clearly plan into finals (and holding a top 2 spot) without the prospect of it going sideways. Until then it's play our best 22 each week, and win them all. Surreal position for us to be in. Go Demons
