  1. Hey Lucifer, appreciate your opinion, and you may well be correct. But I was more curious as to what the data would say, rather than everyones opinion or their personal interpretation of it... personal bias and all that. If we combined the "loading theories and practices" being discussed throughout the last 2 seasons, with a breakdown of the draw fixture using statistical methods (rather than simply scanning for data points that confirm our established beliefs) i think we may find there are some insights that would be interesting. I.e. does our fixture support an optimal loading program? which team has best fixture when loading is factored in? etc...
  2. Any data scientists out there? I'd be curious to know the correlation (or not) between ease of the draw and end of season ladder position and flags won. It would appear that a critical element in terms of generating a favourable September, is the draw, with both which teams you play, and when you play them potentially decisive in determining the likely results at the end of the year. If there is a correlation, and the analysis of draw difficulty from Champion data (above) is accurate, then we are in for a good year in 2023..! Especially noting that those we'd likely meet in finals are in the top 5 (with the exception of Geelong).
  3. Watched those 7 goals that turned the game from mid 3rd quarter to end of 3rd q and Jackson would be 5th most important, and several of the centre goals Luke was ineffective, but our mids still got it back... I recommend watching it again. Just for pure enjoyment of it.
  4. Crispy pork - Banh Mi, Smith Street Collingwood... to die for.
  5. With the new job as coach opening up at the Saints, we may still lose Adem... hopefully not.
  6. The fact that the draft system already requires these young men are traded and bought, then shipped to places to live and work that they don’t choose, is enough of a deprivation of their rights… what other career requires this of you? And you want to wack on a penalty clause. I think we need to accept that young players are humans too, not chess pieces or commodities to be traded.
  7. Jacko help us win a flag at a pivotal moment in the GF... we won from that pick, even if he'd have left for nothing.
  8. Reg will flourish at Melbourne. Love this pickup.! Bring on 2023.
  9. Can someone calculate where Freo would have to finish next year for us to break even on this deal, i.e. where would they need to land next year, for us to get Pick 3 worth of points from Pick 13, R1 + R2..? Please? Will help with the "death riding" next year...
  10. Dead to me. Moving on.
  11. Any auction you need two bidders, and we had one. F the West. MFCs won more flags in Perth than either team EVER will... ;)
  12. If the Footy Gods still have their sense of poetic irony, Freo will finish 15th in 2023...
  13. It's wild that we can't get a top 10 pick for Jackson leaving, and yet Cats get pick 7 and a player... Crazy
  14. I find it really hard to follow threads after someone suggests [censored] spiders. Snags my attention. what!?
  15. Our VFL team just won the VFL GF (not sure where Geelong VFL ended up), so that says we have some good talent in our system already (i.e. more than Geelong)... so it's not necessarily doom and gloom that we're not bringing in a bunch of mature mid-tier players.
  16. If Harmes has midfield aspirations, and there's no reason why he shouldn't, then he'd be wise to be looking at other clubs who would be more likely to give him those extra minutes in the middle. No doubt, with Brayshaw, Oliver, Trac and Viney on or signing long term deals and clearly being our premier midfield squad, Harmes won't get a lot of midfield time for years to come. Salt of the earth Melbourne man, but may be time for him to test himself at another club.
  17. Can we play it here..?
  18. The founder of our club (and the code) Tom Wills, spent time in Queensland, where he was involved in an attack on Gayiri people in Queensland, in response to the murder of his father. Hopefully nothing since then. Sad sad stuff.
  19. Grundy/Gawn will allow us to try Petty (and Max) up forward while being able to cover talls down back (while Turner comes in for Hibberd) for next few years.
  20. Will take a 2008esque performance for the Swans to win it… Beware the flaw of hubris, Geelong.
  21. Couldn’t have asked for a better result.
  22. Seems kinda fitting, and may be the last time we can sing it for a while… https://youtu.be/04854XqcfCY
