The reason for watching the Dees at their lowest ebb. When he died,I remember hearing Doug Hawkins in tears in his admiration for his skills. If I remember correctly, he was used at CHF in one game for the big V, despite being skin and bones, such were his prodigious skills!

I would have thought that a goal umpire on each goalpost would help sort this out, as well as touching on the line. If the umpires don’t agree, then video technology could be added. New technology can often be confusing in its interpretation.

I’ve seen a number of comments about this, and the number of chances that Hawthorn missed. But... We had three shots on goal in the first five minutes of the second quarter that we missed, two of which were definitely gettable. If we were seven goals to nil at that stage, would that have put a different complexion on the remainder of the second quarter? In the end, he says, she says, would’ve, could’ve, should’ve.....
