Life doesn’t get much better than this; team on the cusp of finals and rumour of the player I want most is considering donning a blue and red guernsey. Best thing is that you know if it comes true our footy department will be offering Kelly a deal that fits in with the rest of our young and talented team and not some stupid Nth Melbourne $1.5m+

I honestly don’t understand why he would choose Carlton over us. We are a good two years ahead of them.. I very much want Kelly at the Dees. Would have him over Lever in a heartbeat
  3. And either hand; bouncing or handballing
  4. That is a ripper Luther. Thankyou. It is difficult to explain to younger supporters how good Robbie was. Footballers today are full time professionals with unbelievable resources and support yet there is not a player running around in a Melbourne jumper at the moment who comes close to matching Flower’s skills.
  5. Jordan Lewis on 360 tonight said Viney’s injury was normally a six week one but he recovered in 16 days. He said some players can play through pain better than others and that mental strength has a lot to do with it. Jack Riewoldt then talked about cousin Nick and his ability to play through injury and made the link to Jack. I wasn’t a fan of Viney being promoted to co-captain but it would be difficult to find a more inspirational and hard at it footballer or one more dedicated to the cause. The bloke was born to captain this club
  6. I remember the days when I counted anything less than a 10 goal loss as bit of a win
  7. Interestingly Balic lived at the Vineys for a week in 2015. So we have a link with him albeit a tenuous one 2d63a23824990db1e03abd3cffd8890b "But Fremantle draftee Harley Balic’s insight into Viney’s approach to football suggests his commitment to improving his game has not wavered. “It was pretty intense,” Balic remembers of his week living with the Viney’s last year as part of the AFL Academy. “It was an awesome experience. He and his dad are just footy heads. Coming from my family where everyone is mixed, it was just footy, footy, footy 24-7. “It taught me what it means to have a good work ethic. He’d be the last one to leave and after training he’d sit down with coaches and watch his training and slow it down to simple things like just picking up the ball. He’s pretty elite.”
  8. You are correct. What Australia does will matter very little in the scheme of things. But your comment that the reef will be fine in 5, 10 or 20 years is wrong. I truly hope you are right though
  9. I have worked on the reef since 1991. I have visited it more than 3,500 times and completed 3,000+ dives. Many times over the years the press has sensationalised threats to the reef; Crown of Thorns Starfish, water quality issues, localised dredging, cyclone damage have all been overblown. This time two years ago my part of the reef, off Port Douglas, was as pristine as I've ever seen it. That is not the case anymore. Two years of bleaching, through increased water temperatures, has considerably impacted the reef in this area. If we return to more normal summers it will recover. However the GBR isn't fine today and definitely won't be fine in 5, 10 or 20 years time if we have repeats of the past couple of summers. There are very few climate change deniers in this part of the world.
  10. Love that stat GV. Wish you could get it to Bruce and the other commentators who wax and ooze and dribble on every time Cyril gets near the ball.
  11. Rohan Connolly barracks for Essendon. His bias won't let him publicly acknowledge that his team let go of a player that makes our team considerably better.
  12. I find myself laughing at the things Oliver does because some of his disposals don't seem humanly possible.

Both Tyson and Salem would be very much on the fringes of the GWS team so that deal wouldn't work for them Conversely Tyson and Salem are worth more to us than having just Kelly Probably proves the general consensus that the original trade was a good deal for both sides
  14. Cale had his issues some of which were probably exacerbated by our "development" of players at the time. However his implied cowardice in this comment is just wrong.
  15. Nic Nat has one of the best highlight reels ever but is remarkably overrated. By the end of their careers I reckon Watts will be well ahead
  16. Jake Lever would be nice but for what it would cost I would rather have the Mc bros as our tall backs and go for another up and coming mid.
  17. Yep having Kelly would pretty much complete the midfield rebuild.
  18. It is very early days and Paddy has had his fair share of injuries that have no doubt held him back but I think of him as a poor mans Jesse Hogan. McCartin is a good mark but not as good as Hogan, Hogan has better hands, a bigger engine that allows him to play up the ground (and in the centre now) and Jesse's reading of the play/footy IQ is off the charts. They have a similar strike rate when kicking for goal. Overall you can imagine MCartin will be a good footballer so this pick isn't in the Toumpas/Wines league but would they have been better choosing Petracca? Absolutely
  19. I thought that was a massive call but you are right. Sadly when you work through it being the best midfielder for the MFC over the past few decades isn't a high bar to get over. If he gets over N. Jones then he probably has Viney X 2, Junior, Bruce, Johnstone, Moloney, McLean, Tingay, Woewodin, Wells and Lovett well covered too (I've no doubt missed a few) We just haven't had a midfielder of the quality of a Voss, Buckley, Judd, Hird, Matthews, Dangerfield or Fyfe. It is only Clayton's 15th game this Sunday but if anyone is going to challenge for the best Melbourne mid in memory it most likely will be him
  20. The coaches like Clarry too. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-03-27/aflca-votes-round-one

The Anzac Eve game V the Tigers is turning into a good rivalry. Think it can only get bigger over time.
  22. Just seen the Swans have locked Callum Mills up till the end of 2023, seven seasons away. They have a history of long contracts with Buddy on a ten year on and Heeney I think till 2021(?). Personally I think anything over a four year contract is too much of a gamble but then I wouldn't mind if the MFC put a long term in front of Clayton. It is difficult not to see him playing 200+ games
  23. Yes I do the same mainly as I was hoping for Parish to be a complete bust just because he was drafted by Essendon. Unfortunately he has been very, very good particularly for a small skinny young mid.
  24. Off topic I know but now that Essendon have axed general admission tickets to their Anzac day match and increased reserved seating prices by 50% I am so hoping that our Anzac eve match draws a bigger crowd.
