Listening to the TV commentators, it seems the AFL establishment are happy with throws because it speeds up the game.  So we can expect the rule soon to be changed to allowed to throw the ball as long as you use 2 hands when throwing.

So the handball like the drop kick is destined to go the way of the Dodo? As long as it’s endorsed by the NRL.

When you're allowed to throw the ball indiscriminately and push in the back and appeal to umpires who have had a gutfull of rules that flit in popularity from one to the other, well good luck. GWS very stiff. A couple of crucial decisions in fourth quarter got Footscray home me thinks..

Just on McCrae and the Bont, both left footers, i hope that our midfield pick up on their clearance rate from of the middle with these two and watch the supply of throws that is being fed to them from Liberatore.

Whitten’s flick pass was outlawed for the betterment of the game. Will the AFL rules committee recommend that the Footscray sleight of the ‘closed propulsive hand’ be focussed on under the umpiring  microscope?
Or will Liberatore and Co; still be allowed to be a bunch of tossers?

  3. May’s speedy recovery and brave return to the field of battle, after  what initially appeared to be a horrendous injury. Shows he is (or has) a tough ‘mug’ with gritty determination to boot. Ditto Bayley Fritsch. After a belated viewing of the Casey v Box Hill VFL match. Where a number of contenders for AFL spots displayed their impressive credentials. TC are spruiking Kade Chandler after his performance as the one to watch. Definitely short listed here for team selection when an opportunity arises.

Gerry Gee, a suspicious character possibly a poison dwarf?

child's play chucky GIFBD seems to be some confusion here with your recollection!  Gerry Gee was a force for good humoured  witticisms, spiced with  occasional mischievous banter.  One would never associate him with being malevolent.?

Whichever tall comes in will need to work wonders with Jacko and T Mac in regards to leading patterns, opening space and spreading the Tiges defence.

If we fail at that, I cant see us winning no matter our midfield dominance.

If our players enter forward 50 as they did for three quarters against Hawthorn and our key talls lead to bad spots, we'll be punished.

Need to plan and execute. Can't rely on our sheer talent to get us over the line against this mob.

Agreed JG, the notion of bringing in both Brown and Weidemann together and they immediately fit in harmoniously, with other forwards and mid-fielders is questionable. It will take time to develop synergy between, what is currently working well and adding new components. It will not necessarily be a matter of flicking on a switch and it automatically happens. As noted by other posters on this thread, Sam Weidemann may be the forward inclusion of first choice by selectors. Surprisingly Ben Brown may be allowed further opportunity in the VFL to get ‘cherry right’ for Blundstone Arena.

A great position for the club to be in, not merely holding the fort for the calvary to arrive, to get the season going. But now holding high ladder position with a number of hard working and talented players strongly desiring  to be part of it.

Our family went overseas for all of 1965. Come back in 1966 and no Barass, no Tarax Show! and no Dees.

Ease up BD ? ! Sold our souls in a deal with the devil demon to resurrect the “show” in 2010 on DL. When El Diablo called in the bet we were  ‘condemned’ to remain MFC supporters, a life sentence.

  9. Last eve’s game at ‘G’  was exemplified by the wet weather skills of the modern footballer. Coaches and particularly players take note, less handball more kicking please. The judicious use of the kick off the ground was also most effective.

  10. Given 2020 was an unusual year for the AFL competition prepared to cut #18 some slack. In fact to these eyes his form earlier in the disrupted, uncertain road trip that was the season was not “putrid” (sic) but contributed positively to the team performance.

The hub experience was not to every team or individuals liking. Perhaps changing nappies and disrupted sleep patterns away from home were a factor. If footy IQ and high level forward  skills are required JM should be seriously considered.

He said in his interview with Harford and co recently that when he aims right, he misses to the right.

I expect that if there was an easy and obvious fix to his goal kicking, he’d have easily and obviously fixed it ages ago.

Yes Maxie’s Massive ball drop doesn’t help, provides plenty of opportunity for deviation off the perpendicular or other arcane voodoo to kick in.

The thing about Gawn's kicking is that the result is consistent. Therefore, he doesn't need to change his technique. All he has to do is aim further to the right each time.

In Max’s circumstances he should always ‘aim’ for the right peg. Maybe he should consider old “Chicken Legs” as his personal goal kicking coach. Seemed to be all over it from the commentary box. That being said, have seen Max kick a super checkside goal on the run from the boundary at Mararra. Using the non-preferred hoof facing down field! Pressure was off of course,  practice shenanigans.

  13. Picket your training posts (in this neck of the woods at least) have now achieved legendary status. Glad they're back! Best read of the week on DL by a country kilometer. Stirring stuff! Set the scene for a late Sunday showdown at the 'G'. May the PA be belting out Alice Cooper's Welcome to My Nightmare and the boyz come out with real intent.

  15. After the massive disappointment of the previous year's Grand Final let down, enthusiasm still resided within, all be it deep and almost dormant.

Got there just before the start of the game and unwisely decided to forego the purchase of a Season's ticket. (Although ultimately it was to prove was another disappointing season finale).

Don't remember much about the game itself, although Richard Osborne was clearly a threat, but do recall the No. 52, Stephen Tingay's very first kick in league footy. A tremendous snap from a fair distance out, that sailed high through the goal posts for the winner. The excitement in the old Southern Stand standing room area was palpable. Possibly reminiscent of the effect engendered by Kossie Pickett's "X" factor performance last weekend.

Of course Stephen Tingay went on to establish himself as a great warrior for the MFC and a fan favourite. Although his MFC career was markedly effected by footy's and life's vicissitudes.
