VFL on film 1909-1945
Tim Lane’s narration tops it off I reckon layzie. Authorative and nuanced might describe his contribution. Always rated him on radio, TV and print.

DZ there is a sequel ‘VFL on Film 1946 to 1982’. You’ll be happy to know there is due deference given, with a chapter titled ‘Demon Dynasty’ (Seven sequential Grand Final appearances). Now where have we heard that previously?

VFL on film 1909-1945
Roll the credits the Australian Film Archive and many others participated in the doco’s creation. Bruce Andrew some will remember him from ‘World of of Sport’, is a contributor of note. Aside from the footy l loved the use of contemporary events to provide context.

To find the answer for that question Picket you may need commune with the Demon Spirit at the Casey Fields Reservation. Feathers might fly with Jai 'Cochise' Culley searching for a breakthrough, Captain 'Jefferson' Parmenter leading the young forwards forward and Kentfield the smokey!

Wholeheartedly agree Clint, as an alternative to the latest MCG sporting farce. Have watched MFC replays from last season’s mini-renaissance post zilch five. AJ’s performance at the Gabba and his reprise against the swans at ‘G were team worthy. Junk yard dog meets Rudolf Nureyev.

AJ fell foul of the AFL ‘judiciary’ on a few occasions last season. Infamously for bumping Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera for which he was rewarded with a two week suspension. Interestingly his AFL profile has him below average on all criteria over his five game ‘record’ with the exception of tackling for which he was judged as ‘elite’. Upon his return from suspension he played an absolute blinder at Casey. A five goal ‘jailbreak’ BOG performance from me. Of his AFL games his performance at the ‘Gabba was probably his most memorable. In and under competing with vigor in the packs and relief rucking for Max, plus kicking a ripper goal off the ground. As others on this thread have astutely observed, his skills need polish and aerobic fitness improved. Additionally his physicality should be retained, but the indiscretions reigned in.

Music Recommendation thread for off-season Boredom
Otis Redding and Steve Cropper share co-writer credits. Steve Cropper was producer. Released by Stax Records on the Volt label it became the first posthumous #1 hit single in the USA in January 1968. Otis Redding recorded it twice, the second time just three days before his death in an air crash December 10 1967.

‘Ralf and Florian’ Kraftwerk added melodic sound after the earlier experimentalism. Ralf Hutter and Florian Schneider as a duet before the commercialism and haircuts kicked in. Believe it was never re-released on CD. Take it to heaven. Neu! the eponymous debut album. Michael Rother and Klaus Dinger post an early Kraftwerk split. Still a great listen half a century after release. Quality earphones recommended or the inner sanctum of your listening room. Finally ‘Faust so Far’ . When albums were more than just music. Each track has some accompanying individual artwork inside a black sleeve. I found it rather mysterious and it’s decidedly not for the mainstream listener.

PRESEASON TRAINING: Wednesday 17th December 2025
Neither did 17 other clubs! Lamb & Taylor would l imagine have had a shopping list of priorities. Oscar Berry got the category B spot Sinnema was being touted for. The other available rookie spot went when Riley Onley unexpectedly was available. Kalani White being nominated for father and son. The Casey listed player the Suns drafted mid-season this year, Caleb Lewis seemingly got plucked from obscurity can’t recall him appearing for Casey? If a mid-season list spot opens up, consistent performances at Casey would help Toby’s cause you’d think.

PRESEASON TRAINING: Wednesday 17th December 2025
For all the hyperbole around #1 pick Willem Duursma at the draft. Performance wise of the play-on invitees at Casey this season past . Young Sinnema given his opportunity at Casey Fields, put on a show. That elicited plenty of positive comment from ‘wired’ DL observers. IMHO up there with Jamie’s nephew. Although totally different players. Toby performed credibly out of starvation corner HFF, kicking an important goal in a tightly contested game. At 180cm, he anticipates the movement of the ball well, is fleet of foot, can slip an opponent and has clean disposal skills. A Steven King speed on the ball likely type? Pleased to see he’s been retained at Casey. Is he a possibility of mid-season draft? Guess the FD are in wait and see mode with Jake Bowey. Fingers crossed he recovers speedily. Otherwise Toby Sinnema awaits his curtain call?

Given the injury intel input from Demonlanders Jake appears destined as LTI listed. Nominations to fill the void? Like for like or is Xavier ‘T’ sainted with an early opportunity? Will Noah Yze miraculously get a late chance to float his boat? Or Paddy Cross cross from Casey Demons? A proven career pathway to the big league. Mitch Kirkwood-Scott?

Probably explains my aversion to camping. School holidays May 1968 was there an Indian Summer that year? Camping out the back of Licola with the my younger brother and dad, cold wet and wintry. Made memorable by Otis Redding’s massive posthumous hit on the Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay. First conscious listen blasting out of the old man’s full body Sharp transistor radio. Stax recording artist although Atco a division of Atlantic had the recording rights. Booker T and the M.G’s Time is Tight from 1969 Duck Dunn, Steve Cropper join Booker T Jones and Al Jackson on this relentless sub-three Hammond B3 driven groove. Another Stax artist, influential Bluesman Albert King’s Born Under a Bad Sign. (I’m a) Roadrunner was Motown records hit for Junior Walker and the AllStars in 1966. Don Byron’s 2006 release Do the Boomerang: The Music of Junior Walker. Includes a terrific heartfelt and faithful homage to the original hit. Sheer joyous musicality that doesn’t fail to move me. Believe it’s on YouTube. The full album absolutely pumps.- Music Recommendation thread for off-season Boredom
My pleasures are now more visual than auditory my hearing is not what it was. But live and recorded music was my passion. Different musics at different times although nostalgia leads me back to some old favourites on odd occasions when the urge takes me. Some selections from the soundtrack. Pub With No Beer - Slim Dusty My very first record purchase, an EP, accompanying my cousin to a record shop in Shepparton. Who played the classic hits of the 60’s on the radio whist milking the cows. Wild Cherries - live circa 1968 Lobby Loyde’s power trio hair down to their arses kickin’ in. Sweet Child in Time - Deep Purple Deep Purple in Rock monolithic. Simple Ben - John J Francis North Coast of NSW 1970’s idyll at its best, banjo 12 string guitar and piano. Singer songwriter concludes with a rousing chorus. Up in Queensland - Carson from Blown ‘72 Originally Carson County Band played at my sixth form farewell social. Broderick Smith et al. Boogie in the moonlight state. It was a different country up there then. - Music Recommendation thread for off-season Boredom
