  1. Uncontested marks need to be similar.

    turnovers need to be similar

we need a disposal efficiency of around 70%

    contested possesion similar

and we will give it a good shake.

hope we can use the ball efficiently and effectively, and move the thing quickly, the one thing i think we have over collingwood today is definitely speed, so we need to use it, break the lines, and tear the zone.

  2. hard to say, our vfl team did hammer them this week, but i think we have some of the best depth players in the afl, and i guess that is because we have done quite well in the draft over the last few years, and collingwood have had to use the higher numbered picks.

  3. That'd explain that then. :)

Cheers though everyone, obviously it's still a time-will-tell and it is my opinions as well.

yeh and good effort on going through it all, none the less both drafts will have some aswesome players, and i think we have done pretty well out of them.

  4. I think 3 to 4 months was said after the game.

and matthew lloyd said it, but i think robbo did something similar and was out for about 12 months?

with the recovery and technology as it is nowdays roughie will be back, but it will be a lengthy process, and i definitely feel for the bloke.

  5. Admittedly I'm not that good on the interstaters bar Hartlett, so take my opinions with a grain of salt on them. (Although I do note that Davis didn't play today?)

im pretty certain davis did his shoulder after playing round 1 and is out for the season!

and he was playing and beating franklin, he is going to be a top notch defender, and would be playing if he wasnt injured

  6. I can't want to see how he fits into the structure with a taller forward line though. He kind of does a lot of what Jurrah does, only not nearly as well obviously.

has a better tank than jurrah, and got involved much more up the field than jurrah does.

jurrah is more of a i50 forward, whereas howe was playing more up the ground than jurrah.

but similar.. in their leaping and marking attempts.

  7. Dunn, Maric, Petterd, all look a class above, with maric and petterd combining well a few times.

And cook looks like he is going to be special, getting into the right spaces and marking well.

all of melbournes listed players are contributing, and look to be streets ahead of this collingwood vfl side.

  8. he is challenging the intentional part of the decision, which really is the stupid one to challenge, what else could he have meant to do?

but if it is ruled reckless then it is less than 100 demerit points.

  9. bottom line is, he played a good game, maybe looked shaky once or twice, but competed well, and really only got beat once or twice in marking contests, once against crameri who wasnt his direct opponent but he manned up to provide a contest.

he has bulked up, he switched the ball well, he applied great defensive pressure, and only had one goal kicked on him, which was off the break. Sure his kicking cant be considered elite yet, but there are few players who after 3 games who have elite kicking in relation to afl. I think it is more he has the possibility of posessing an elite kick.

has to play this week, and will have a much tougher task thats for sure.

  10. Well done RR. A well deserved top spot all yours.

    No Sandi, no Dan.

my mob was hammered in a lacklustre, bruise free performance, struggled, with cotchin, watson and newman on the sidelines and a late withdrawal of franklin my team didnt have the quality to even compete, also buckley not playing wasnt helpful.

RR list has great depth too

  11. he was pretty good for Casey today

no doubt, newton plays well for casey too, i just dont rate them as afl players.

i think he is too slow, his disposal out of the backline is too poor, and he leaves us too top heavy in the backline. Although frawley can play small i rather him match up on a bigger opponent and let the smaller players play small.

its more of a match ups thing and i think dropping anyone from our back half on the weekend would be stupid.

  12. - Three key forwards - probably Rivers to Cloke, Frawl to Dawes and either Warnock back in or Martin rucking and then pushing back for Beams?

    Frawley - cloke

    Rivers - brown

    Macdonald - Dawes

    Strauss - Beams

    Bennell - Krakeur

if warnock is brought in i will not go and watch the match, it will mean we are getting hammered.

  13. i hate to say it, but the whole defense looked so much better without warnock, i think that everyone played their role in defense to a tee, and prevented any of the essendon forwards actually influencing the game. Rivers was exceptional in the air and i dont think he was out marked basically all night, nit picking, there was one spoil which if he went any direction but straight infront it would have been a win and a melbourne player would have got it, he spoilt it straight to an essendon player and they got a goal, having said that, rough because he won the spoil, and beat his opponent.

all in all, he is exceptional and has really stood up to the leadership role.

  14. I don't know how much there is in it compared to last year. The rules have changed now for the AFL-VFL affiliate relationship re: number of players on the park. So you could basically set up your own systems anyway by having a side dominated by MFC players playing the MFC way. The coaches would understand this and adapt as such, probably moving the VFL listed guys to play in the mould of their AFL counterparts.

And besides, right now I would prefer my membership $$ in that sort of area going towards projects like the Bentleigh Club to secure the long-term viability of the MFC than a short-term flag tilt. Yes, I know that the goal is always premierships, but to win a flag but not see the club's position improving relative to the rest of the AFL would be more problematic long-term.

    agreed

new vfl rules make it pointless really to own a stand alone vfl side seeing as most of the players who arent injured are playing vfl ones anyway. and if they dont it is mainly as they are rookies who on good performances will be promoted.

no point spending money when we dont need to spend it, and the deal we got with casey is pretty good.

from all reports brad gotch is working hard with the melbourne coaching staff and implementing a melbourne based game style so the players are running the correct motions.

  15. bennell and morton both rarely lost one one ones, and although morton dropped a few marks he should have taken had what i believe is nearly his best match, because he was not only accountable for his opponent, but used his tank to outrun many players on the field.

bennell destroyed jetta, jetta couldnt get a sniff, and every time bennell had the ball it looked as though everyone around him stopped and he just ran out of trouble, and his disposal more often than not was precise.

they both had good games, in a match were all melbourne players play well, i hope they can continue this form and continue to take the game on.

  16. what i liked was that he looked bulked up, and found good space. really enjoyed him getting a go, and was rarely beaten in a one on one and looked so much more composed than last season.

i am a fan, hope he can keep it up

  17. when you compare him to the other players who play a similar role, high leading forward, dunn, petterd and bate, he looks to be of a highers standard, especially in the air. what i liked the most was that he would throw himself at the ball, and 9/10 get two hand on it and make a great contest. petterd sometimes can make an aerial contest but dunn and bate struggle, they are more players who rely on their hard leading. howe slot in perfectly, and i really really enjoyed watching this bloke go about it. shepperd on heppell was nearly the highlight of the match for me!

  18. i heard that they brent moloney had a birthday party, and scully wasnt invited.

i heard that scully wasnt allowed to play downball with brad green.

i heard that scully was shoved inside a locker by jared rivers.

i heard that scully was invited to a "dress up" party by aaron davey, but the party wasnt dress up.

i heard that jack grimes, stole the wheels of tom scullys car.

i heard that mark jamar said unless scully signs, i will not give him one hit out to advantage.

i heard that when scully enters the gym, every one leaves.

  19. i can just see it happening, melbourne showing a bit of heart with a mellee, and destroying the pretty boys at carlton, although mitch robinson is a tough nut, putting a bullseye on yourself in a team that has the two largest midfielders and a raging bull is quite stupid.

moloney and sylvia will not forget this and both have a knack for laying tackles.

and with tapscott likely to be back, i think robinson may shirk a contest.

having said that he only said what most people are thinking, that we are soft and easily muscled off the ball, which is a very annoying thing to watch, players like morton and bennell flinging themselves to the ground in the tiniest bit of pressure really annoys me.

  20. I noticed against Carlton when Chip was kicking out after a point that he likes the little self kick then a 20 metre run with the long kick.

There were melbourne players close to the square positioned to put in a shepherd when Chip decided to play-on. Every time I noticed when they tried to put in a block or shepherd it was the most [censored]-poor effort. It was like just going through the motions. Very poor effort.

99% of the time it was warnock
