Question. Is Blakey the decent teams version of Frosty   Runs just as fast and what the hell is he going to go do when he runs out of space ?

How good is his bounce at speed, mad skill level.

  2. IIRC - 2018 for the loss in that 4-1 score-line. Including Freo. we are 7-3 for our last 10 games, and our average score for those 10 games is 94 for v 68 against, the highest of any venue.

Yeo is out and Barrass under a cloud.

Not tipping anything as I am a proven jinx, but we love playing at Optus, anyone older than 40 couldn't have imagined this prior to 2018.

I must be the only one with a negative story about Max.

Saw him and his wife one night, and asked for a selfie.

He looked like he was going to punch me!

So I asked again - very politely - and he got even angrier, started yelling and swearing and said he was going to call the cops.

I actually felt threatened for my safety at that point, so I left his house.

Just a warning to others that he's not as approachable as he seems.

Everyone can have a bad day for whatever reason, but you would have to say the body of work across a fair period of time has been pretty chilled. However I noticed during the Easter Egg hunt video that was uploaded that he was in a bad mood, and from other clips that sometimes when he is focused he is far from a teddy bear. But these small moments haven't dimmed my agreement with the sentiment expressed by the OP.

  4. Have noticed a few non Melbourne types are putting him ahead of Cox now (King and someone else I can't remember) he is running at 80% for goals outside 50m this season I think, makes me think of Neitz who could dob a 50 to turn the team on.

Not sure why the Brownlow doesn't feature more blokes like Gawn, fairest is in the Brownlow job description afterall, not cheating, dog kicking, throwers like Cripps.

I always thought the difference between Australians and Americans was Hard but Fair, versus Win at all Costs, then we had the Chappell underarm ball and I've realized my sentiments are aspirational. Gawn (I guess he was born a Kiwi) seems 100% who the Brownlow was designed for.

Yes saw this on First Crack, I liked King's call, defensive p0rn, it is pure s3x, so well drilled they could take part in the Edinburgh tattoo. Anyone who doesn't take us seriously honestly is just demonstrating their own insecurities. I thought we were a few straight kicks away from '21 finals style Boomshakalaka. We are going to get haters, we are scary. I also liked May's IV when he said he knows we are going well if Langdons getting alot of the ball.

Just quietly I felt like last night demonstrated that the coaching team is humming as well.

Stats are honestly the crutch of many feeble minded scribes, they tell you what happend but rarely why. I say this because it is rote for media to roll out Melbourne is defensively strong, best last 4 years blah blah, the 'what', but what I look at, is the number of defenders that have rolled through (see below). To my recall it has been 18 players who have rolled through and they have consistently adhered to a system, that has rarely broken down. That shows strong coaching and culture, this is the 'why', few commentators are willing to engage with. Wilson, Purple, Cornes, etc just don't have the bandwidth. Every club is trying to do what we do, very few are close but those who are too dumb to articulate 'why' we are good, are scared of us, we are the monster under the bed, the bump in the night, so they denigrate our coach, team and culture. That's ok we are coming for their club.

Feel free to amend anyone missing from the Men's department:

That was as salty as I have ever seen him, glad he was really pleased. Even the prelim he had the grace to say congratulations.

  7. Can everyone who poured merde on Petty's attitude harden up and say sorry?

Brilliant game plan, we played two styles well done coach, supercoach didn't have a response.

    Bar Billings, everyone contributed.

Clarry finding the ball was ace, his disposal can improve, but looking so much better.

Geelong played well, didn't hand it to us, we earn't that.

Gawn is 🐐, this is the season if we salute he will rank with the immortals of Ruck. He is already in the conversation.

DeeFENCE, we just saw the comps best. Kept Cats to under 10 goals.

Tmac-ultimate team player, defensive master-class, like he was playing Nick Riewoldt as a 20y.o.

Our run was ace. We are fit, makes the danger of short breaks obvious. Can't fault anyone's heart.

Even Dermie is giving us credit.

5 players with 10 odd games each, our club is in great shape.

    Much more to come.

  8. https://www.afl.com.au/video/1119533/afl-rising-star-jake-rogers-stars-in-round-7?videoId=1119533&modal=true&type=video&publishFrom=1714379400001

I like this kid more than JUH (who I previously had along with others as a forward line colossus), but that R7 game of Jake's was a brilliant rising star game, I would compare him to Wayne Schimmelbusch (179cm/74kg), who never wasted a kick. To kick the way he does, right out of the box, is amazing, and looks better than Salem, Bowey, Melksham or anyone else on the list (kicking wise). I just have a feeling this kid is going to make a lot of FF/CHF look like rock stars with his delivery. If the club doesn't find the right gorilla FF, JVR doesn't fix his iron mitts etc, they could do alot worse, (and pay alot less) to convince this kid to move back to Melbourne. I honestly think he could do for Melbourne what Lever did for the backline. Barring injuries and lifestyle dramas he could set new standards in score assists.

I know this is a big call, and yes he got talked up on OTC, but I am not just regurgitating sound bites, I was as excited seeing this kid kick as I was watching Clarry's draft video highlights, watching his handballs. The thing is he didn't get lucky standing under a few marks, he executed the hardest skill in football perfectly, he's a natural with ball in hand, almost like a premier league striker with the way the ball comes off the foot.

He is also named Jake, I think Melbourne should a monopoly on all players named Jake/Jack (except Stringer who is a nong and should be forced to change his name to the diminutive of Richard).

  9. Anyone else thinking he could be a  Coach one day? My mad Hawthorn mate still teases me about the time I called him up (in 2020 as an excited 50y.o.) saying we now had the best defence I had seen in my life and to watch out hence my Demonland handle).

I too loved Buck's calling us a big club, as a favour to Garry no doubt.

  10. Speaking of finds, I have been looking for a photograph of the selection committee during the 50's titled the architects or similar, would love a scan if anyone has or suggestions where.

  11. I am prepared to back the coach, when he said he laughed even if we (me), did not at the number of times we hit up an unmarked opponent with a kick. To be fair we haven't played like that in 10 years but it was very triggering for my MFCSS. My point is that we are honestly not that bad by foot, and if we halved those clangers to +/- 15 then we would have kicked another 5-8 goals, we had them wide open. Instead we gave them a stupendous amount of looks right in the corridor that we were nor possibly able to defend. Both sides were so traumatised at there skill going by foot there was not much dare in the second half. I pray and hope it doesn't happen again.

Am sure Geelong will bring out the  intensity amongst the team, especially as underdog.

I want Petty to have one more go at least, I think it has been a deliberate strategy (which we are not privy too) for him to play underdone. I really think selection and fitness team generally get it right. I understand why people are down on him.

More worrying to me is JVR still taking everything as a chest mark and he bobbles those as well, forced me to agree with BT (of all things) that he needs to have his hands out. This is down on confidence.

One thing I liked about Turner is his connection with Fritsch, that was a positive.

Kozzie is so key to our midfield atm, I would hire a nanny. Gawn is going to get alot of work from Scott and the mids and they have the cattle, we need Kozzie badly for this game to try and halve the clearances.

Curious to see our Tom Stewart plan.

Win these two games against Geelong and Carlton and we will be (barring injuries) in the right mindset for finals. We need some top 4 scalps.

Perhaps it was just me, but you could just feel he is still just a bit... ummmm off,   still dealing with things mentally,

Looked a bit uncomfortable during the interview.

also mentioned coming into the match with sore ribs...

Oliver is Dusty like but worse for how little he likes talking on camera, obviously stresses him massively. I also though Pickett's cheap shot got him flush on his short rib.

Really ? Nothing for Disco? No, he looks small and skinny, balls falling into his arms,, good luck from here

Yeah it was his skinny body that slotted it from 40 odd on a tight angle. Suggest you watch Bluey to find a bit more joy for a young bloke.
