They use cameras now?? I thought they had some guy on the sidelines with a mallet and chisel and a stone tablet.

Yeah, I’m not sure what I was thinking, but that was definitely a bit of a brain phaart on my part.

Yeah, sorry, a bit of a brain phaart on my part.

This probably says more about where my head is at than anything else, and this has nothing to do with the topic at hand, but I’ve often thought about the fact that a touched ball going through the goals is awarded a behind, while a touched ball going between the goal and point posts is also awarded a behind. Shouldn’t the latter be either a ball up or a boundary throw in?

Agree with all of that, but, and I’m probably wrong, I thought all goals were reviewed before the centre bounce to restart play took place… in which case, how could that not have been picked up? It beggars belief!

I saw the mini replay on Foxtel a while ago and the ball clearly misses the post, but the weird thing was the commentators trying to say that it clipped the padding… 😵💫

That’s something that can affect both teams… I don’t subscribe to this ‘umpires are out to get us’ conspiracy.

Rank your favorite songs
Thanks matey… it a bit of the ‘how long is a piece of string’ situation. Chemo can last from 3-6 months or even longer. The optimist in me says I’ll be back doing it again early next year, but the realist says don’t hold your breath. 😁

Wow! I’d never heard that before… thanks! I don’t think I’d ever have picked that as The Last Time.

Rank your favorite songs
For me AC/DC died along with Bon Scott… they still wrote good tunes but Brian Johnson’s vocals (for want of a better word) just rubbed me the wrong way! (and I’d seen him with the band Geordie in the very early 70’s… and even then I walked out of what was a free Canberra Day event on an oval somewhere after watching a few local bands, who were great by comparison). Favourite songs are so hard to rank as the list will always depend on my mood and my memory. There are songs that that many love that would never make my list (Bohemian Rhapsody being the first to spring to mind), so here are a few in no particular order (10 to begin with): 1. A Hard Days Night (Beatles) - that opening chord gets me every time! 2. Bitter Sweet Symphony (Verve) 3. Bang A Gong (Get It On) (T-Rex) 4. White Rabbit (Jefferson Airplane) 5. Marie Provost (Nick Lowe) 6. Making Plans For Nigel (XTC) 7. Shivers (Boys Next Door) 8. Stupid Girl (Ellen Foley) 9. I Can’t Stand Up For Falling Down (Elvis Costello) 10. Factory Girl (Rolling Stones)

Umpiring discrepancies
I will watch the full game when I get a chance to… my son is usually fairly accurate with his summations, so I wasn’t going to dismiss his comments.

Umpiring discrepancies
Well, equally candidly, I was in no position to… my band had just played in Canberra, what will be our final gig for an indefinite period of time while I go into chemotherapy for the next however many months, and I had been taken out to dinner. I managed to get back to where I was staying in time to catch most of the second half.

Umpiring discrepancies
I agree to a point, but those missed calls probably even themselves out over the course of most games and are to be expected due to the pace of the game. Imagine how [censored] off we’d all be if every single infringement were picked up by the umpires… it would create an almost unwatchable game due to the numbers of stoppages in play. I feel for the umpires as while being a necessary component of the game, they’re always going to be damned if they don’t and damned if they do.

Umpiring discrepancies
So you’re saying that those three quick goals at the beginning of the last quarter were all a result of poor umpiring? The reason we lost was that we slept through much of the first half of the game, and then, when we had managed to get them on their knees by the end of the third, had a micro sleep allowing them to gain the ascendancy… if you’re going to blame anything else for the loss, then I’d be looking at the standard of the goal line technology, not the umpire. I’ll admit that I missed quite a bit of the game (first half) and am relying on my son’s first half assessment, but the only really dodgy umpiring decision I saw, was Roo having his legs taken out from under him on the boundary line in the dying minutes of the game.

Which hated player would you love to love at the Dees?
Greene, Bolton, and, can I say we hate Moore so that we can get him back to the club to which his father absconded.

2023 Injury List
Someone from within the club on the Foxtel coverage, was saying that it’s a recurrence of the foot injury he had earlier this year that kept him out for six weeks.

Aliir Aliir & Lachie Jones in Concussion Protocol
I don’t think that it was about winning the local derby, otherwise they probably would have cleared Jones as well… obviously he was unable to continue and so the ‘migraine’ call. I believe it was all about their upcoming match against Geelong next weekend… they did not want to go into that game minus two important players. I would have loved to see the AFL force them to sideline those players for two games, not just the one… and a full investigation to determine whether the club doctor was under any pressure to make that call.
