And this ... I was at this concert (it was the very first Knebworth concert in 1974).

Yes, I think he had a heart attack... what makes that even spookier is that his brother Lesley Harvey who played guitar in a band called Stone the Crows (with Maggie Bell on vocals) died when he was electrocuted onstage. As saw the Sensational Alex Harvey Band perform live a few times... they were one of my favourite live acts, and their album Framed is a brilliant album. Alex would have been the perfect replacement for Bon.

Actually, I don't think Ross Wilson had anything to do with the Falcons, but I do understand what you mean. At the time the Falcons were playing, Wilson had Mondo Rock starting up. Joe Camilleri had actually been around for a long time (almost as long as Wilson) and I think the first time I ever saw him was when he played with a band called Lip and the Double Decker Brothers (occasionally also going by the names Lip Arthur, or Lip and the Double Soul Brothers). They usually played at the old TF Much Ballroom and the Much More Ballroom in Brunswick Street, Fitzroy in the early 70's (up until about 1972) and did the occasional stripped down appearance at La Mama Theatre in Carlton. I was at the Kingston Hotel when the Falcons made the first set of recordings for the Live, Loud and Clear album (I think the final tracks used on the EP were done at Martinis) that had some great tunes on it... Girl Across the Street, Honey Dripper, Young Girl, Aint Got No Money and Riding in the Moonlight. I consider this to still be one of the best recordings to have been made in Australia. It captured the Falcons at their absolute gritty rocking best before they started getting a little too smooth.

After Bon passed away and they said they would find a replacement, I crossed all of my extremities wishing that it would be Alex Harvey (of the Sensational Alex Harvey Band) as I thought he was the only person who could continue Bon's legacy and do it justice... unfortunately he died almost exactly one year later.

The original line-up is still around to the best of my knowledge... John Power is living up here in country NSW (just had a recent heart bypass operation) and the rest still in Melbourne. I used to go and see them regularly at the Kingston Hotel in West Richmond (I think it was) as well as other venues like The Tiger Room in Richmond, The London Tavern in South Caulfield and Bananas Nightclub in the Esplanade. I also saw them about 3 years ago supporting Elvis Costello at a Day on the Green show in the Hunter Valley (most of the originals were playing including Wilbur. As for the Memo, my one and only visit (to date) was for the Sports reunion show in the wonderful company of The Nutbeans :-) A great day/night out.

Can't say I was ever a fan as such, but you have to admire someone who succeeded on as many levels as Jon English did... he will be missed by many... RIP.

Please pass on my son Liam's regards to Max Gawn... tell him he was the kid from Sydney he met who had done his knee (he gave him the signed mini footy at the end of the GWS game - last game of the season). Will be interested to hear if he still remembers.

I'm pretty certain Ross was a follower of the Rajnish faith (otherwise known as the orange people) back in the day... possibly around the time he had the band Billy-T going. I might be wrong, but that's how I remember things.

Can't say I'll miss his presence... the day he joined AC/DC was the day I stopped listening to them.

In the late 70's I used to go regularly to the Tiger Room (at the Royal Oak Hotel in Bridge Street Richmond) to watch Paul Madigan and the Humans playing... the band comprised Paul Madigan with Ross Hannaford, Wayne Duncan and Freddie Strauks. They were hilarious and it was worth going just to watch Madigan baiting the boiler suited feminist brigade of the time. Ross Hannaford would play the entire show with a look of genuine amusement on his face from go to woe.

This is one of the saddest pieces of news I've heard in recent times. Ross Hannaford formerly of Daddy Cool, Billy-T, Paul Madigan and the Humans etc etc, has passed away after losing his battle with cancer - he was 65. A truly lovely person and a brilliant musician. http://www.noise11.com/news/r-i-p-daddy-cool-legend-ross-hannaford-1950-2016-20160308

That diatribe was the reason that a) it is always worth re-reading your posts before hitting the submit button and b) there is a private messaging system on Demonland. Totally uncalled for in the public forum and worthy of an apology I would have thought. Sorry DL, but that's just how I see it.

I'm not sure that will be an issue as we are not likely to encounter summer conditions like those yesterday, during the season. Why expose your players to the possibility of heat exhaustion at this time of year... Port were proof that it wasn't a wise move on their part to restrict interchanges in these conditions.

Saturday Talking Point: Game Day 27/2/16

You have to be kidding! If it wasn't for Jetta's first half, we may have been a LOT further down at half time... I consider his effort in that first half to be one of the contributors to us being in a position to win the game; ergo, I was rather surprised that no-one seemed to be listing him in their top players. Also, I was another who only just read this thread from start to finish having watched a recording of the game courtesy of the fact I was at band rehearsal all afternoon. Conclusion: there are some seriously bi-polar contributors on Demonland. -
"The Revenant" I liked, but to be honest, I much preferred his last film "Birdman"... the bear scene was extremely well done; exhausting to watch in the same way that Deliverance was exhausting to watch when it first appeared. Other than that, I just found some of the scenes a little too contrived and I was a little disappointed when the director used the "meteor" in one scene... it must be some sort of metaphor that he has become attached to as he also used it in "Birdman". In recent times, the films I have given repeat viewings are "Birdman" and "St Vincent"... both excellent vehicles for their aging stars in Keaton and Murray respectively. Another film I thoroughly recommend is from the French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amelie) called "The Extraordinary Voyage of the Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivett; completely unheralded but an absolutely brilliant film! I just can't stop watching it over and over. Also, last night I watched one of the better music BluRays I have seen for a long long time in Elvis Costello's Detour... he is performing for the most part solo to a smallish audience in an opera house in Liverpool and recounting stories regarding how he came up with particular songs, his family life, his father and grandfathers influence on him musically speaking etc etc. He also brings on two guests in Rebecca and Megan Lovell (on mandolin and lap steel guitar respectively, as well as vocal harmonies) from the band Larkin Poe; together they combine to turn out some of the best versions of EC's songs I have ever heard... uplifting to say the very least.
