  1. No, he was hired as head of player development in 2014, while Hird was still there. FWIW, from a couple of mates who are hard core Dons' fans, he was respected and did well with the younger players, which is one reason why he was moved up the ladder to assistant coaching. Just saying.
  2. Not mid-season though, at least not yet. (technically, we're not even mid-season). You wonder how they ended up with this coaching structure or why this season it has all gone pair-shaped. Given the players at their disposal, they did well last year to make the finals (we didn't, by the way), and they must have figured that with a bit of tinkering, plus bringing in the likes of Stringer and Sahid, they could push deeper. Unlike some here, I take no pleasure in this. A footy club is still just a workplace for those who work there, and none of them deserve this level of turmoil and the ensuing stress.
  3. Sums it up. We all have strengths and weaknesses, and it's unfortunate for Mark that he'll probably be remembered for what he couldn't do rather than what he could.
  4. Tyson: 81+% disposal efficiency, which is higher than Jones, Vince, Salem and Hibberd, all of whom are supposed to be good users. But heh ...
  5. Sure, but you're acting as if "perspective" has some fixed meaning, and you and only you get to define what that meaning is. Enjoying the kind of performance/win that we saw yesterday is just as valid a perspective as - well, whatever it is you're proposing. Criticising those who say we should "keep things in perspective" is keeping things in perspective - just not yours.
  6. BEST Melbourne: T.McDonald, Harmes, Oliver, Gawn, Salem, Brayshaw
  7. You only need to look at some of the posts here to get an inkling as to why that might be.
  8. Well, it would presumably get us back into the first round by way of compo.
  9. Agree on Viney straight in. Even going at 70% he'd earn his spot. Whether next week is the one, only the fitness staff would know. The other in for me is Garlett. He did OK at Casey, and we miss his crumbing capabilities and instinct for the goals - as long as he brings them of course.
  10. For starters, this isn't correct, if you go by the stats he was amongst the best. But even there, it depends on what he was asked to do in the game (e.g. tackle?), how he applies himself during the week in training, in the gym etc. Also, not sure which out you're referring to last year, but from what I can see, he only missed one game (Round 15) and that was with a hamstring.
  11. Salem out we knew, but with an 8-man I/C, impossible to draw any conclusions on who'll play. Shame that Casey have a bye, not much incentive to drop players to work on their game.
  12. Other option would be to bundle this and other threads into a "where are they now" thread. I have to confess, I usually check on Port, not so much for Watts, but to see how our other exes (Trengove and Barry) are doing.
  13. Almost got one courtesy of Match Committee for his hit on Parish.
  14. Did wonders for Hannan - and to a lesser extent Hunt. Too many here see getting sent to Casey as a punishment and step backwards, rather than an opportunity.
  15. Because it's a short-term solution. Jones is 30, and if we keep asking him to knock himself around at the bottom of the pack week after week, he'll be done in a season or two. Moving him outside/back prolongs his career. It's why we need Viney in the team and players like Petracca, Brayshaw etc. to step up.
  16. So, the highest possession-getter for the team, and named in the bests - but you'd drop him.
  17. Don't disagree with the thrust of that, but it's worth bearing in mind that we now have quite a few out or unavailable (Kent, Maynard, Viney, Vandenburg, Petracca even players like Wagner) who have shown something at AFL level, at least occasionally. So yes, we have 25 or so decent AFL players, just not all at the moment.
  18. Also the same questions from journos again and again. Though in the article I read that's based on the presser, Goodwin tackled the issue of social media and players, which is something from outside the box. No doubt you'd be pleased.
  19. You're defending mediocrity. Garlett had 6 possessions this week, and 5 the week before. Heaven help us that's what we expect of a "rusted on best 22 player" He deserved to get dropped, regardless of who made the decision.
  20. "club officials, coaches and the leadership group" The days of coaches calling all the shots in isolation finished the day they stopped moving their own cones around, about 50 years ago.
  21. Attempted delete, somehow the app is double posting.
  22. A funeral in W.A. has been mentioned.
  23. Too difficult to check? BEST Melbourne: Petracca, Gawn, Oliver, Jones, Hogan, Lewis Geelong: Selwood, Ablett, Menzel, Duncan, Parfitt, Kelly
  24. Lewis played 4 games, one with a broken hand/finger. In the other 3, he was twice named amongst the best. As for Pedersen, he's had one decent game in the VFL, to go along with his average games in the VFL and 2 poor games in the firsts. You see what you want to see, and ignore what you don't.
