  1. Too old: Bartel, Enright, Mackie, Kelly, Rivers, Lonergan, SJ, McIntosh, Stokes Too good: Taylor, Hawkins, Selwood, Motlop, Christensen, Caddy, Duncan, Guthrie Too injured: Cowan, Menzel, Vardy Too drunk: Dawson Simpson Too delisted: Sheringham, Burbury, Stringer, Schroder Too young and important: J. Kolodjashnij, Lang, Hartman, Jansen, Thurlow, Hambling. Blicavs Probably Available: Mitch Brown, Varcoe, Smedts, T Hunt Possibles: Murdoch, Horlin-Smith, Walker, Bews, McCarthy
  2. Short answer. No. They just cleaned out a few in delistings. They've got first and second year players. But the good ones are in the team. George Horlin-Smith is the best player who hasn't completely nailed down a spot but he's pretty slow.
  3. Varcoe started off as a dud forward pocket for a long time with lots of injury issues. Then had a brief patch of really good form up to and including the 2011 grand final I believe. Then missed all of 2012 injured and some of 2013. This year he was just a solid back flanker with the occasional nice piece of play but also some poor defending. As a half back flanker he'd probably be better than Terlich and Grimes (unless he improves) but not significantly. That unless his body was holding him back in 2014 and we can get more out of him. Whether he's worth another shot as a forward is interesting. He only ever found much of the ball or really hit the scoreboard when his was in peak form and that didn't last long. And interesting prospect but he'd be about as risky for us as Clark is for Geelong. I'd rather keep a second round pick and use Clark for Lumumba. But I could have Lumumba and Varcoe but I'm not sure where the picks come from.
  4. Always injuries. But as long as they were in decent form I'd play both Frost and McDonald and try to develop 2 very very good big men. I'd probably then play all of Dunn, Garland and Jetta if they are in form and be very strong defensively. Probably play Lumumba on a wing and Howe and Grimes as the rebounding defenders. That presumes a lot of form from Lumumba on the wing, plus hoping Grimes, Garland and Jetta can all improve their rebounding form. Those 8 players would provide a good mix of old and young and the kind of group Roos would want to form. Definitely needs some class still but it's a start at least.

Cutler is Cutler. The only way he'll win big games is with a good team around him. Particularly a defense that can survive his mistakes. He's the middle of the road QB who probably can't win it all but at least can win games. This year and 2 more then hopefully I'm free of him. If we pick up someone good that would be nice. He's still Chicago's best few QBs of all time, which is scary. As I said, not making excuses. Our defense and lack of depth has scared me all year. Just saying the injuries caught up. Better teams don't let them catch up. Maybe I'm being too generous but I'm feeling like a mature Stafford and a proper head coach will do Detroit wonders. KC Royals just made the baseball playoffs. Stranger things have happened!
  6. He's a backman. Athleticism is his main strength. It's nice to see some prior forward line traits but definitely a backman I think. He's pretty much Tom McDonald 2.0 with a bit extra speed and size and hopefully Roosy can develop both of them.
  7. No he's not. You still have to get to 8 years service to be a free agent, otherwise he's just an out of contract player, similar to Mitch Clark. If we get trades for class players with our high pick/s then I wouldn't be keen on Greenwood. If we can't secure other mature talent besides Lumumba then I'd gladly trade our second rounder for Greenwood.
  8. Sounds like a Tom Rockliff style transformation. The lack of fitness and pace is a concern but if he runs enough to be defensive then there are other ways for him to get the ball with his height. Norwood seem a really smart and creative club.
  9. He's the Roos most consistent player this year and I think could be more than just a tagger. Would at least think about him for pick 3 in return for North's first pick.
  10. Never should've been AA and certainly isn't now. Good trainer. Good runner. Can't kick. Can't make good decisions. He'll need to turn back the clock to benefit us otherwise no matter what pick we used it was probably better just heading to the draft.

If you take away the QB do the Cowboys have the best talent on offense in the league? O line are scary good. WR's - Dez and some other talent. Great TE. RB who looks set to lead the league (even if that is O line related). They look seriously good enough that if they don't put up 30 every week then you'd worry about Romo. Not convinced of their defense yet but it's better than horrible. It's hard to like the cowboys but with the way they were written off (by me and others) it's kind of a good story. Dennis Allen at Oakland is seemingly outdoing Mark Neeld. Poor bloke nearly got sacked in a foreign country!

Don't want to sound like a sore loser, it's the only tip I got right! But the bears couldn't run the ball to save themselves at the jets and 49ers and then put up over 200 yards against the packers. Neither team had a punt. With plenty of injuries that finally caught up to us our defense were horrible but I'd still be nervous if I were a packers fan about their own defense and lack of running game. Rodgers told everyone to relax because he knew how damn good he is and how that can translate. But in terms of pure talent across all aspects of the team I can't go passed Detroit. Strong defense in all positions. Good QB. Good O line, good running game and finally more than 1 receiving option. Plus they have the lead on the packers. The biggest knock on Detroit is that they are Detroit. Change the uniforms between green bay and Detroit and you are backing the current lions players.

Ok lets get analytical. I want a point. 12 games left. Need to tip 3 of them. Ruling out Ten, Jax and TB. All starting back up QBs. Combined 1 win so far. Playing good teams with Luck, Rivers and Big Ben at QB. 9 games left. Pretty good teams Atlanta, Carolina Good teams GB, Detroit, NE, Phil, NO, Below average teams Miami*, Buf Pretty good teams: Baltimore Good teams: Jets, SF, KC, Chicago Below average teams: Houston, Minn, Dal Bad teams: Oakland Ok so can't take Carolina at Baltimore. 8 teams left. Can't take Buffalo at Houston, if the teams are level I'm not going for a bad one to win on the road. 7 teams left. Miami have a slight edge in overall level and aren't even at a proper away game. But I can't trust them. 6 teams left. From there I'm going for my now trusted theory (yet to actually work) of going with the best QB's. Apologies to Brady, Foles and Stafford who will now likely have 400 yard and 4 TD days. After all that I'm going Atlanta Green Bay New Orleans
  14. You can say that for almost any club. Or at least if you draft the lights out you can get 6-8 very good players and then make a trade for a couple keen to join you, that's what Port have done with Polec and soon Ryder. Poor old Adelaide drafted a bunch of guns then saw half of them leave. It's just not how the comp should work that you have to drop down the ladder, stockpile gun players and then get all the top ups. You should get some good players down the bottom and then have a mixture of players coming and going when you are further up the ladder. Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis, Burgoyne, Lake, Rioli, Gunston, Breust, Birchall, Gibson, Roughy, Smith, Hill that's too much talent for the same salary cap as what we pay our mugs.
  15. Part of me hopes that more players (especially good players at big clubs) see Frawley end up with a fat pay day and think that's worth a shot for them. Then more players actually start threatening free agency if they don't get big money and eventually the salary cap actually starts to impede teams. Hawthorn and Sydney have 12 players as good as our best 3. The salary cap shouldn't allow that to happen. Of course the risk is we have to pay ever more for guys to join or stay with us but it at least puts us in with a chance. Sydney had to sell Everitt, White and Mumford to fit Franklin in. That should be how it should work for whoever gets Frawley. Unfortunately it seems several clubs can fit him in no troubles. And the swans got valuable draft picks when traded guys out to get Franklin in. Hopefully in the future it works that if you get a free agent in someone can raid your players.

Defense, running game, get a good QB and give them a chance. It's the basic philosophy of the NFL. When it goes wrong it can be awful but the Giants don't panic and seem they might actually be right. Still not sold on their defense against good opposition. Same with their running game. But Eli's making people look silly. And I'd guess you'd be a fan of their offensive coordinator and game plan. Man does he share similarities with Andy Reid. Where did they find that tight end from?! All of a sudden Eli is throwing it to people who can get separation and catch instead of mugs.
  17. Hey! Robbo's likes and dislikes is his most intelligent column! He uses other peoples tweets to make it intelligent and doesn't have to do any work. It's the herald suns version of letters to the editor.
  18. I think you are underrating Beams and underrating how important it is for Brisbane to become competitive again and fast. 12 million in the red in a growing market. 1.5mil salary cap space freed up. An academy system and quality drafting last year producing a steady supply of young talls. A decent amount of young midfielders. Brisbane can be turned around pretty quickly without hoarding draft picks. And they bloody well need to be. Eddie McGuire says clubs in debt shouldn't pay the full cap. Maybe they shouldn't. But clubs in debt in foreign markets need to invest hard when they see a great deal otherwise they may as well fold. Dayne Beams lobs on their front door, it's like all their christmases have come at once. Pick 4 must be on the table and it should be. Remember Beams is about as good as Nathan Jones. As if you wouldn't put pick 2 or 3 on the table right away.
  19. Back in 2008 I'd have taken a chance. Good athlete, has all the talent just can't deliver it. If Carlton or some other club get him for a 3rd round deal they could be on to a steal. Definitely better than the Pies trying for someone like Jesse White. But as of right now we need to back in Dawes, Hogan, Fitzpatrick and Pedersen I think. Given the state of our list that's enough to spend on key forwards. Let's redirect energies in to finding some decent midfielders and flankers. Ideally we find someone in the draft who's a proper developing tall and can be utilised at either end like a Sam Reid at Sydney. If you're going to take a chance of fixing a floundering prospect then go with the delisted or very cheap prospect like Sam Grimley from the Hawks who's barely had a shot at AFL level and can have a go as a second ruck as well.
  20. Why do people think Dawson is slow? He's not quick of mind but the guy is a decent stopping full back for a reason. He's not slow.
  21. Coach of Morlo from the recruit. He was on the final episode.
  22. Or he could be an outside midfielder like Sam Gibson or Steele Sidebottom. Obviously much better to have quick guys than slow guys outside but if he finds enough of the ball through getting to the right spots and uses it well it could be his role. That's what he did in 2010. He's hard at it, but I'm not sure he's a natural clearance player.

Obviously I have a CBSS, probably linked to MFCSS but I don't think we have a scary offense. No doubt Marshall and Jeffery are a great combination, Bennett is good too and Forte's great as a receiving back. But it all starts from Jay Cutler, which means it can only get so scary. The O line are good in pass protection but can't run block to save themselves. It could be that Cutler finds his rhythm and makes it close to a scary offense but I just don't see it happening. He's been in the league too long to make the jump to elite. The best case scenario is a Flacco and Eli style hot January/Feb where he just makes a tonne of smart big plays. The Green Bay game last year was a good maturing for him, he made all the plays needed to win it, trading touchdowns with the best in the business, just our defense was atrocious. Whether Cutler can back that up against better defenses in playoff like games I'm not sure. Jets, Bills, 49ers, 3 above average defenses so far this year and injuries surrounding him so it's too early to tell. Despite much better wideouts I don't have the bears offense as better than Sea Hawks. People need to stop underrating the Sea Hawks offense. Russel Wilson is near on elite then Marshawn Lynch, Percy Harvin and the rest are way above average. The year after the lockout everyone was torching up yards and points. Brady and Brees had no defense but were just smashing teams by putting up 400 yards and 30+ easily. So far besides Denver I'm not sure there's a standout team on offense. Every team will be limited by how many possessions they get and how they get them by their defense and special teams. San Diego might be my favourite, Rivers is so fun to watch. If Pittsburgh ever let Big Ben be Ben again that would be fun. His sand lot football was amazing. His current football is often sad to watch. Looking forward to seeing more of Denver as well, especially if the train wreck come week 16/17 happens.

No by saying never he very much included the past 3 seasons, He might've had seen you get reasonable results (divisional champions and in to the playoffs without a defense, they are still good results if you are a Bills, Browns, Jags, several other teams including MFC fans). Where as we both realise a lack of defense (as well as running game and poor O line) has seen you crash out in the playoffs. I was very much agreeing with you. When you won the superbowl, like almost every team that does win it, you had a good defense. I probably should've quoted dappa instead of you.
