  1. Yeah I guess. Would just be nice to get a ruck who could stay on the park for a substantial chink of a season.
  2. But a decent KPF is also "the future of their club". And if they get one, they won't even notice having 5 potentially A-grade mids instead of 6. Do they have anybody on that rung between Stringer/Macrae/Libba/Bont and Hrovat/Wallis?
  3. Totally agree. And may we all have the last laugh with him, every year! Actually, it wasn't a bad audition for our victory speech on QB 2015.
  4. On the contrary, it's a great speech with a sharp subtext - very Roos in fact. As others have suggested, he paid tribute to what he's been through with them, and what the club has done for him on & off the field - but only up to 2011. Though he did not bag them, it was notable that in this tribute he left out the Buckley era entirely. And everybody in that audience would have been acutely aware that despite being their 4th best, they're actually giving him the flick. Awkward!! The implication is that they could handle him as "Harry O'Brien" but not as Heretier Lumumba. And that's a serious cultural weakness in 2014, especially for a club that thinks it's just a bit better than everyone else. It brings up echoes of their Nicky-Winmar-Michael-Long days of 20 years ago. They still don't "get" diversity, in any of its forms. And best of all, his message in the "Prince who is gifted and has the last laugh" line is that he goes with his head held high, and he expects that with us, he's going to have the last laugh on them! And he'll bust his guts to make it happen! So ... "thanks for what we've been through together" (but only up to 2011) ... but "I'm leaving with my head held high" ... and "I'm going to have the last laugh." What's not to like?
  5. This is the point. If we don't get him this year, our chance is prob gone.
  6. "Headstrong" is fine, but if he overdoes it, it may come to mean "tearing it up in the NEAFL".
  7. If that's true, then we have to get a LOT more "creative"!
  8. Hence the admiration!!
  9. Gotta admire a bloke who has such disregard for his testicles!
  10. His kamikaze style tends to lend itself to physical damage. In 15 games, as well as the foot injuries, there was also the time he ended up piledriving himself into the ground after flying for a mark. Weren't there other injuries too? So even if he does come back, would have to question whether he's going to continue his high-risk kamikaze style, or whether he's going to go easier on his body. And if he does go easier on his body, whether he'll be as effective. And in crashing packs he seemed to take out more teammates than opponents. I'd love to see the look on FIGJAM's face if MC ever crashes a pack & takes out Cloke or Elliott.
  11. I think there are different ways of telling him that we can't meet what he wants. The fact is that, while a top club may choose to pay him a bigger salary on their main list just in case he comes good, we're not in a position where we can afford to use up a spot on our main list for such a risk (and the term "risk" can be interpreted in any number of ways). Therefore, a reasonable response is "fair enough, I'll see if there's any interest elsewhere." It's more or less telling him that, with the club in its present state, this is the best we can offer to someone in your situation. That's not quite the same as "we don't want you", although admittedly it amounts to the same in the end. And this is without getting caught up in the issues of whether or not MFC have been deceived. Because Roos' one goal is to salvage the lousy situation in the best way possible by somehow getting a generous trade. And of course, with Roos, it seems that what goes unsaid tends to be just as pertinent as what is said.
  12. 5-letter word, begins with M & sounds like "honey".
  13. We don't need fringe players who may be slightly better than our existing fringe players!
  14. So some proposals have us using picks 2 & 3 for Dangerfield; some for Shiel + Brayshaw. Which is better?
  15. He'd be much more certain of playing AFL with us than with NM. Hard to see what he'd add to them.
  16. Would have thought their 2015 salary offers would be about the same. Which would leave us ahead, as we'd be paying HL less than we paid MC. See your point tho'
  17. Whether you've got a source or not, the point is well made. What's not said is at least as important as what's said.
  18. Good to see they've kept their slapstick approach to trading.
  19. My money's on the tease.
  20. Need to back off on the Botox!
  21. Sounds so clean & simple. The antithesis of Eddiewood! That's the BS.
  22. With our present coaching & development team, if past form is an indicator, we're well & truly stuffed!
  23. Sloane, Rockliff, ...
