  1. I wonder whether Brad is the best choice too, but mostly because I'm not totally sold on the idea of having football director and what he brings to FD operations is two very short stints as an assistant coach and a football career a long time ago now. And as if Pert doesn't know how the modern FD functions. However, I'll back the club for the moment.
  2. I don't think you know what you're talking about.
  3. Great discussion here @deanox and @Lucifer's Hero. We don't know what our risk oversight set up is outside of the John Trotter sub committee, do we?
  4. I agree with this in finance and interpersonally, but I disagree that the past failures at the MFC mean that the current people are doomed to repeat them. Finance stability is destabilising, but football stability IMV, is that, stabilising. Unless of course, the decision makers are so pathetic that their decisions cause instability (see Cameron Schwab).
  5. More just that it's unlikely assistants will commit to roles at other clubs if there's a senior position at stake.
  6. I just hope the North senior job doesn't hold us up too much.
  7. I don't wholly disagree with you here, OD, just that there's certainly evidence that Goodwin does listen to some extent, hence the changing of systems mid year a couple of times now, and other tweaks in season to certain areas of the back plan (the Diamond Defence, the no wingers, the two off the back of the square). None of us can be completely sure, but I reckon we can point to more evidence that he's open to listening given how much we experiment. He can't possibly be behind all the ideas. It's a consultative process. I think he does need strong leaders around him that challenge him though. Hopefully Pert, Yze and more to come, will do this.
  8. Doesn't work that way OD. The statement was made that he doesn't listen. If you have nothing to back it up, sit down.
  9. You are very well informed. ?
  10. Good point. But it depends whether Dunstall's role had the same remit as Green's.
  11. Sure, but is Green the most qualified to do this? We shall see.
  12. They've been around for 56 years have they? Strange logic, but each to their own, Biffboy.
  13. Based on what? How would you know the operation of the board or otherwise?
  14. Austrian actually.
  15. Yep, I found this bit interesting: Led by Chairman Glen Bartlett, the Melbourne Board has reviewed its composition over the past 12 months, to ensure the right mix is in place to achieve the strategic objectives it has set out for the next three years. This process identified that with Thurin retiring from the Board, ongoing expertise in the commercial real estate space was required. It was also identified that a director with a strong AFL background was necessary, given the Club’s core business.
  16. Rennick's a property and legal guy.
  17. Yeah, real bugger. Was hoping we'd land him as midfield coach.
  18. Yeah, hence my 'they can't ask for the world'. But you said less than a second rounder. Good luck with that. Providing Brown passes the fitness test, if we could land him for a single second rounder, I'd take it and run.
  19. Couple of points about this. 1) You're assuming North want to get rid of him, not the other way around. 2) They essentially pushed him out the door under Shaw, so they can't ask for the world, but doesn't mean we can get him for a bag of crisps. He'll still likely cost at least a second rounder, possibly more.
  20. Indeed. Thanks Wobbly. I'm very lucky to have you.
  21. The midfield is pretty ordinary...
  22. I don't mind Jayden, but I think he's the sort of player who might yield something handy for us in a trade. He's not a lock in best 22, so it could be a win win for all.
  23. Reckon you're massively overrating them, but each to their own.
  24. Well, there's being aggressive and then there's being stupid. What a ridiculous trade that would be. A first rounder and Brayshaw for someone they're happy to move on?
