  1. it ain't 1964, 64. that just doesn't cut it anymore.
  2. I'm not entirely convinced with esports. it's a super competitive market and unless you compete successfully in NA and Asia, the financial benefits are minimal. You also won't attract good players unless you'r prepared to outlay most of the winnings to the actual team. Some smaller esports teams only give a small percentage to the players because they'r seen as a stepping stone to more reputable teams. it's the kind of thing where you need to invest millions in order to start off high from the very beginning. I don't think any of the Afl teams getting involved are going that deep. imo some AFL clubs are seeing the financial benefits based on the success of NA and Asian teams, without truly understanding or appreciating the cost to actually set this up. Blizzard was asking for tens of millions just to buy a license for the Overwatch league. This is a league that atm has appealing projections, but there are still huge question marks over the viability. ultinately it all comes to sponsorship money and purchasing intent. Gamers are traditionally firmly in that high purchase intent category, but they won't get involved if the team/players aren't competitive on a global scale.
  3. jones has never been top 50. he barely cracks top 100. i like nibbler. elite potential.
  4. I don't think what he says is wrong. Neither team is at a point yet where if a KPP goes down, we can successfully cover them unequivocally without ruining structure. We're continuing to develop our ruck division, Omac is clearly being developed as a reliable depth player, and Weeds needs to be our Roughead equivalent. But we're not at a point yet where losing a Lever or Hogan allows us to bring someone straight into the role with similar efficiency. We got lucky with Hogan and Gawn this year but we were arguably a 4-5 win better side with them playing every game. We need to be in a position where losing Gawn doesn't force us to go small, or losing Hogan forces a complete restructure of the line and structure of the team. We're too vulnerable. Make no mistake that if lever, gawn and hogan stay healthy this year, so long as we aren't decimated in the middle like we were for a patch this year, we'll be top 4.
  5. I got a letter re. AFL Membership that gave me a few weeks notice regarding automatic renewal. Debits start this week i believe.
  6. A Phantom Menace style entry could be in order. "Turmoil has engulfed the Melbourne Football Club board. The hiring of a new coaching department is in dispute."
  7. He thinks we're a few years away from playing finals? what? EDIT: Finished reading. You win this round.
  8. You eat pieces of [censored] for breakfast?
  9. he'll bounce back. they are a 2 win better side with him even with the current crop of downhill skiers they have running around.
  10. If EA Sports can't even get the trade algorithm for NBA Live right, what chance do we have of the AFL creating a fair and coherent computer system?
  11. The white jumper doesn't really bother me. What bothers me is the outright hypocrisy of it all. The only "clash" is with Essendon...if you're blind and can't differentiate between black and dark navy blue. I think every team should just have one alternate away strip for away games. Switch the colours around like Essendon and Richmond do. Why we need two clash jumpers is beyond me.
  12. Among the most healthy teams in 2017 and couldn't get close to a top 8 side. We destroyed them and should have won by 10+ goals but gave them a sniff which was very Melbourne in 2017. Hinkley is a one-trick poney. They'll go on a run but they've added depth and still have Toumpas as their midfield depth. Watts and Motlop are easily blanketed. Rockliff is unpredictable but consistent enough to be a good addition. I think they'll be top 4 but like Geelong they'll be blown over by a rampaging team with more answers. I hope it's us.
  13. His season was good. Not great. IMO none of the mentioned should be replaced in favour. Oliver had a better 2017 than Woewodin did 2000.
  14. Good list. What about the vs WC game in 98? We'd lost by 100 points each of the past two weeks and were paying like $10. No one gave us a chance. We went over with a bunch of kids and rolled the Eagles.
  15. but he didnt. and most of his shots were gimmies. has the talent no doubt but needs a better eye for goal to kick them when we need them. Kent, too. Huge ceiling.
  16. his game against Carlton in the 94 finals was amazing.
  17. good on him. I don't think he'll crack the side, might be given a chance, but I guess he was destined for SA anyway to play in the SANFL and Port thought it would be better to fill their cap with an establish guy of character and skill than a nobody. I suspect this is more of a coaching gig than anything.
  18. jkh brings pressure which goody is big on.
  19. he was still a great player after that third recon. not a superstar like he was destined to be, but still very good. We've actually lacked that exist type of player since he retired.
  20. "Dees supporters indifferent on team's draw" 'Fewer than half of Melbourne supporters believe their team has a good 2018 draw, with some claiming it's a 'financial disasters' while others bemoan the club's two sold home games in NT as reason for fewer MCG games and only one Friday night game." It would be factual regardless.
  21. I wonder if crowds play a factor. Had we played our two NT games away or at the MCG, our home average goes beyond 40k, and our total average goes above 45k or whatever it was. I totally get the financial benefit but I have to question the long term affects of this deal. From a fixturing standpoint it's a nightmare because the AFL treats it as a home game, even though it really is an away game. We get fewer games at the MCG, never get a home game against Essendon, and potentially miss out on Friday night games year after year because our attendances take a hit, and you have the physical strain on a playing group that is obviously affected by playing in those conditions. I really can't wait until this deal is done with, UNLESS we can start playing consistently good football there and winning games either side of those matches. Our fixture is that little bit more gruelling because we're subjecting oueselves to playing in conditions that local NT teams don't even play in.
  22. Our draw this year was tougher and we won 12 games. What pisses me off about this fixture is lack of prime time. Calculating matches against top 8 sides from the year before is pointless because anyone can bounce up and down. Teams that played Hawthorn twice in 2016 originally would have seen it as a negative but by round 6 it was a positive. Richmond was the opposite. Teams were happy to play Richmond twice in 2017 until they realised they were pretty good.
