PREGAME: Rd 14 vs Fremantle
Of course not. He'd be on the injured list.

PREGAME: Rd 14 vs Fremantle
Lever gets "bone bruising" from a match almost two weeks ago. No reports. No news. Nothing. Then, two days before the next game. "Yeah nah he's injured." I am absolutely done with this amateur club. I was already tossing up whether to waste my Saturday but I'm not going. What embarrassing player management. But that's not even the main issue for mine. The club is treating members with contempt, and like idiots. I'm sick of it.

Astonishing we are favourites. They are going to absolutely smoke us imo.

CHANGES: Rd 14 vs Fremantle
That is the most quintessential Melbourne loss ever. 1. Key small forward left alone on his correct side for an uncontested snap shot on goal to bring them within striking distance? Yep! 2. Our last hope for a shot on goal taken from 20 meters almost directly in front, but misses? Yep! 3. Easy opposition transition forward to win the game in the dying seconds? Yep! 4. Let down by a leader with a lazy free kick/possession/lack of awareness? Yep!

Mid-season Coaching Revamp
Any structural and personnel changes in the midst of a performance rating period is always a bad sign. Corporations do it when projections are below even the worst forecasts. Deck chairs. I've seen it many times over the years. Expect huge changes at season's end. Interesting that it comes a week after Barlett went down for a gander. This also puts Goodwin on notice more than people imagine. He would have driven recommendations and outlined to the FD what changes needed to be made. This was in the pipeline since Goodwin was broadcast live on television vs Sydney, pulling the headset off Macca and telling him to stop talking over him.

Stats-file 2019
It has been a player management, development, training, coaching and analysis failure. Across the board. You are looking at one of the most significant drops collectively across the team that perhaps hasn't been seen since 2002 when Carlton went from a 14-win season and the Semis, to 3 wins, the wooden spoon and the start of a 10+ years at the bottom. Not even in 2007 did we see such a major drop-off. This isn't relayed on any one player missing, or any specific hole in the ground, or any required players. It has been as collective a failure as I've seen from this club. Neither Geelong in 2006, nor Richmond in 2016 were this bad. We have literally gone from a Prelim finalists, to (arguably) the worst team in the league. I just can't see Thompson, nor Hardwick, no Clarkson, nor even fricken Hinkley allowing what has happened here to happen. Even Adelaide with every one it was missing last year and all the [censored] that happened, only missed out on a finals spot by one game. Goodwin is struggling. Badly. But he's also being badly let down by those around him.

Misson Leaving at End of 2019
No I agree but it's clear it hasn't worked.

Misson Leaving at End of 2019
Eh, he is performance manager of a team in a physical sport. Blaming the game style for a performance manager's failures is a bit of a stretch, especially given concerns about Misson have existed since before Goodwin decided to implement Under-10s-Crash-Bash-And-Hope 101.

Josh Lyon - is the son of a gun a gun?
Can't wait for multiple years of disappointment, a Grand Final flogging, and a wooden spoon to boot! Encore, encore!

Max Gawn's season
We have the best player in the game for the first time in 50+ years. Not only that, but he's a ruckman, and rarely is a ruckman at the top of the pile. And yet, in quintessential Melbourne fashion, it stands for nothing: we are 3-9, have the league's worse forward line, an indifferent backlack, and a midfield that is like a puppy chasing a car: it doesn't know what to do with the ball when it finally gets it.

Missing Jake Melksham
Why are we taking about Pert and Bartlett in a Melkshem thread?

The Writing Was/Is on the Wall
Most of what you said isn't wrong. The problem is that we never once looked like beating Collingwood. And we consistently looked vulnerable against Adelaide. The team is being poorly managed and coached at the moment. I smell 2011 all over again (we are arguably playing worse, at least we could score in 2011), and a lot of those under 24s you mentioned may just be round 2 of Tapscott, Gysberts, Johnson, Morton and Bennell. All of those players were destined to be superstars of the game in 2011. They barely lasted into the decade. We have few assets that we can trade without accepting that we're in a rebuild. Who honestly do we trade to pull in what we need?

POSTGAME: Rd 12 vs Collingwood
6.13 to 12.3 after quarter time. I'm giving Goodwin until round 8 next year. Can't see him surviving mich beyond this year after two of three years missing finals. This year was a failure after the Saint games. He appears to have lost the players. Today was a sad sight.

GAMEDAY: Rd 12 vs Collingwood
Rubbish. Bailey was an awful coach. 1999, 2001 and 2003 were much worse than 2019. But yes Goodwin has been found out. Most coaches don't recover from this degradation, not this early in their careers.

Hore is more like Steven Febey every week. Love him.

GAMEDAY: Rd 12 vs Collingwood
Hardly defenders faults. They have Cox and Grundy floating back. Our midfielders are defensively inept.

GAMEDAY: Rd 12 vs Collingwood
Not a single body on Stephenson. Jones avoided the space snd contest. He was free to go up for contest after contest. There is consistently space in front of him. There is fundamental coaching and structural issues here. Surely you can all see it. We are playing like we've already lost. It is heartbreaking.

GAMEDAY: Rd 12 vs Collingwood
Smashing them in clearances, contested and uncontested ball, and...turnovers. We are playing in second gear and shockingly down on confidence. There is a distinctive lack of confidence in the game plan. Goodwin has until maybe round 8 next year to prove his worth. Can't see him lasting beyond that if things that drastically change.
