WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM
MadAsHell replied to Theo's topic in Melbourne Demons
Aish doesn't interest me anymore. Want competitors! -
Carlton are known for being impatient and moving their young players on early. Josh Kennedy, Sam Jacobs.Poor kid Giles hasn't even been able to have a run at things.
-
They've got another developing ruck by the name of Wallace who had a good VFL season. North seem to love Daw for some reason. So if Currie knows he'd be 2nd in the pecking order after Gawn compared to flip of a coin 2nd/3rd at North, I'd like to think we can convince him to leave.
-
Last thread I'm planning on strating, as there's now one for all 7 players I want/expect us to secure over the trade/delisted free agent period. Given Jamar's retirement and Fitzpatrick also being moved on, I figure we need to land another experienced ruckman for security for Max and Jake the Snake who I still don't rate or expect to be on the list beyond 2016... 26 year old ruck who was runner up in the VFL Liston Medal despite missing half the season. Seems more of a tap ruck compared to an around the ground midfielder/ruck, but he would certainly give us some security. http://www.nmfc.com.au/player-profile/daniel-currie Given he's only played 4 games for North and none this year, the trade price shouldn't be high. There's also every chance he could be delisted and we could grab him for nothing. Hope you enjoyed it again Redleg!

I know Redleg loves my threads about players who have either been de-listed or are seeking trades, so I thought I'd start another one. Cameron Giles, 195cm, 95kg 20 year old defender was delisted by Carlton today, and I have no idea why! Poor kid has had a Jayden Hunt like run with injury since being taken at Pick 39 in the 2013 draft. I was hoping we'd take him at 40 (Kennedy-Harris) but Carlton swooped early. Played 7 games at VFL level before injury set in (the dreaded navicular injury) which kept him out for 16 months. Got back for two games in the development league at the end of the season, but has received the chop anyway. A very good contested mark with great pace for a big man, I wouldn't be against the club taking a punt on this kid considering we've moved Fitz on and given both Dunn and Garland are getting into the later part of their careers. Below are some of his SANFL & U18 highlights from 2013 alonf with Knightmares pre-draft run down. Cameron Giles (SA KPD) Height: 195cm, Weight: 93kg, DOB: 5/05/1995 Recruited from: Woodville-West Torrens Style: Scott Thompson (NM) Player comparison: Range: 30-rookie Profile: After Darcy Gardiner, Giles is probably that next best key defender. Through the u18 champs he played mostly as more of a shutdown defender which I dont feel is as much his game but as more a rebounding defender he can be a factor with his points of difference at his size being his vision and footskills. Hes also got some nice evasiveness for a tall with his agile sidestep and ability to create more time and space for himself. Giles makes the right decisions more often than not seeing the right target but then he executes his kicks finding the right target and can hit them up over a variety of distances. Hes an excellent intercept mark with his ability to read it in the air excellent. Giles has a tendency to play relatively unaccountable brand of footy allowing him to be a real factor on the rebound and make best use of his ability by foot hes just not a particularly high level stopper at this point.

First part of the conversation was: "Don't worry fellas, the soft (See You Next Tuesdays) wont be there next year" Followed by "Grimey's to concerned about his super coach points". So I did the maths from that comment. Edit: Wording

Grimes wont be at Melbourne next year.Source: current member of melbourne's coaching panel.

FAST FORWARD TO 2015 ... As per the middle of the attached article, http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-09-18/trade-whispers-the-inside-word-on-the-players-looking-for-a-move Andrew Moore is going to explore his options this offseason. I hope we're all over him. 189cm midfielder/utility that fits our needs big time! Coming off a very strong SANFL season, and unlike Melksham, I can see Moore in our 22. I'm told he was a Melbourne supporter as a kid also which may help us in convincing him to come to Melbourne. Reckon we could get him for Grimes by slotting into the Dixon to Power trade. Port send Pick 10 to Gold Coast & Moore to us We send Grimes to Gold Coast. Gold Coast send Dixon to Port Thoughts?

Agree they'll want to hold onto early picks and will look to get another top 10 pick with Carlisle. But surely not even they would be delusional enough to think Melksham on his own is worth Howe & Pick 6. I'm just trying to find a way that request makes sense. -
I've got my heart set on Mason for some reason. I just think he could be the answer. Heap of natural ability.

Was thinking about this alleged trade and how unrealistic it is, and it got me thinking. Could Denham have missed a vital detail and that the trade could be Howe & Pick 6 to Essendon for Melksham & Pick 4 to try and sure up our chances of getting Curnow in the draft? Curnow will likely become the ideal 3rd tall forward who pushes into the midfield given his height and build. A role Howe hasn't been able to master? So in this scenario it could be that Melksham is nothing more then steak knives. Thoughts? -
Some more highlights, but more recent. Looks to have good hands and knows where the goals are:
-
Just found the youtube highlights of his underage year.
-
Not as yet, no. Port had very good years in his first two seasons and this year he had a really bad run with injury so was always pushing up hill with the likes of Schulz, Westhoff, Ryder, Lobbe all in the senior side ahead of him. With Dixon coming on board for 2016 it was going to be even harder for him: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-09-14/port-forward-no-shaw-thing-to-stay-at-alberton
-
Yeah i'm not sure why Butcher was prefered over Shaw? My understanding was that Shaw was ahead of Butcher coming into 2015, however things changed. Whether that's to do with the injuries Shaw got, could be? Still think he's worth the punt though. The thought of a Hogan/Shaw forward line excites me to no end!
-
Who I hear you ask? Mason Shaw, 197cm, 95kg key forward/part time ruckman who was delisted today by the Power. Shaw was someone I had my eye on in his draft year of 2012, however I knew we never had the pick to land him. Was selected by Port Adelaide at Pick 30. Here's a bit of what Knightmare wrote up about him pre-draft: Mason Shaw (WA KPF) Height: 197cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 15/01/1994 Recruited from: South Fremantle Style: Kurt Tippett Player comparison: Range: 15-45 Profile: Strong marking key forward. Has a presence, marks out in front and can take a contested grab. Had a sensation 2011 season scoring 66 goals which is a great return for the young key forward. Has good accuracy from both general play and set shot attempts. Also Shaw is a serious big game player kicking 7 goals in the grand final which is a big return and shows potential to continue being a big game player into the future. Good finisher around goal and in general play. Endurance very good for a key forward. Has played in the ruck but I most like Shaw as a key forward and see that as the position where he can impose himself on matches most as a big marking target. Kicked over 20 goals in the SANFL (Reserves/seniors combined) in both 2013 & 2014 despite missing several games each year. Struggled to get on the park this year. Over the course of his three seasons he's mainly played key forward/relief ruck and sometimes specialist ruck, collecting over 20 hit outs on a couple of occasions and also kicked between 4 - 6 goals on a few occasions. Now a few players have been mentioned for the 2nd ruck/forward role like Josh Walker,Casboult etc. But this is a kid with real upside that we could land for nothing. Another WA boy, so Hoges may enjoy sharing the forward line with Mason. I for one would love to see Melbourne go down this path. Wonder what others, especially supporters in South Australia who may have watched him in action think?

If we're offering Melksham 1.6 over 4, i'm assuming the offer to Hrovat is 9.8mill over 7 years...

This is horrid if true! -
Looking like the Dustin Martin/Richmond scenario. Can see him crawling back for a 3 year deal so after that he can test the market to his hearts content.
-
HH obviously had Barrett like sources. Just make enough plausible deals up and surely at least one will be true!
-
I like! Hope your source is good HH.

Look, in isolation, Melksham to the Dees doesn't bother me to much. But given the whole WADA thing i'd really rather us not go anywhere near him. Not worth the risk. -
Yep, facebook trade rumors (I know) have us down along with Saints as chasing Hrovat. Best player linked to so far save for Prestia.
