  1. Going by that scenario Stuie our first Pick wont be till 45 (assuming 27 gets us Hibberd). What are we going to trade to fill 2 of those 5 vacancies? Remember if we trade out a player to get one in, that doesn't fill a vacancy you've created. I also note you haven't mentioned Max King currently in the D League, that's another vacancy as he's finishing his 3rd rookie list year. Dunn's contracted also. Plus if we upgrade Wagner we only need to use 2 picks at the draft. We can easily give Trenners a 1 year extension without it clogging the list. Many others to move on first.
  2. And will pick 81 in the draft reliably provide more?
  3. Trengove to stay. Lets at least give him a pre-season to see what he can produce after all he's been through. Grimes & Dawes, thanks for your services.
  4. It was mentioned in another thread, but i wouldn't be against cutting Dawes loose and picking up Petrie to fill this void. Unlike Dawes, Petrie can go into the ruck. Would give the Weed and Hulett another 12 months of development.
  5. Given Worsfold's call for a key forward the other month i'd of thoughg Dawes & Pick 27 is more then enough for Hibberd.
  6. We agree with eachother above. My argument would be that just because Harvey may not play in our next premiership team, doesn't mean he may not help shape it. M. Jones, Terlich, Michie, Max King, Dawes, Pedersen, Newton, Grimes. That's 8 players that could well be gone next year befors you even consider Trengove or trading out a JKH, Dunn or Garland. Finding a spot for him on the list while still bringing in youth should be a non issue. Most clubs play 2 small forwards now. Our main 2 are Garlett and Kent. Harvey would make Kent, Kennedy, JKH work all the more harder and could teach those kids a lot on only 12 months.
  7. IN: Garlett, Kennedy, Salem OUT: Kent (inj, put in cotton wool), Michie, Neal-Bullen (let them both prepare for Casey finals) Nearly said Weideman out also, but may as well play him for the final week. Let he & Hogan play together as much as possible.
  8. Someone had to start it. Hate to say it, but I'd take him.
  9. Right call on Petrie & Firrito and I would have added Waite to the list also. Harvey is a stunning call and I'm also a little shocked about Dal Santo. Thought he was still producing very solid football. And I hate the guy, but must admit that I'd take Harvey in an instant. Get Kent & Kennedy to follow him around the training track for the year to learn off the best.
  10. You make some good points Macca. I'm hoping that the jungle drums will be beating loudly enough for changes to be made without the need to go back to the days of Los Angeles/Seoul or have an Olympic campaign like GB did in Atlanta. There was a lot of negativity about our London campaign, so that caused a restructure of the funding. Now that we're continuing to fall however, this may hopefully lead to a new funding model similar to GB. I think with the Comm Games here and with Brisbane potentially bidding for the 2028 Olympics, this to may help increase the chances of getting the right funding in place. Only time will tell.
  11. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/afl-abolishes-draft-loophole-that-allowed-clubs-to-gain-an-advantage-by-stockpiling-backend-picks/news-story/112f1b7e18eda1f3127038e1a48a1477 What garbage that the AFL are abolishing this. We manage to take advantage first up, and the big clubs have a whinge! Bet if it was Collingwood or Hawthorn that used this last year, it would still be in operation.
  12. I think after the games we've had and the hand wringing going on, these commonwealth games coming up in 2018 will be quite crucial. With a likely restructure and hopefully increase/new funding, and with the games being at home, topping the medal tally must be the minimal goal set. Ideally even more medals then the whole GB nations combined to get a gauge of how we're tracking half way to an Olympics.
  13. Not that i'm in favour of it, but would the club dare trade Salem and Pick 26/27 for Hibberd & Pick 19?
  14. We didn't use any picks to get Lumumba, it was a straight playet swap. Clark to Cats, Varcoe to Pies, Lumumba to us. Has to be seen as a tick as Clark was never going to play for us again.
  15. Shattered for the Boomers last night. Deserved to go b out medalists, but a bad call by the ref with 9 seconds to go, plus one bad performance in the semi final ended that dream. Bad day for results yesterday with Casey, Melbourne and then the Boomers. Good news for the Boomers is the majority of the team should be able to return for Tokyo 2020. Anderson will retire no doubt. Not sure if Lisch will remain their naturalized player or not? While Bogut will be 35, so hopefully still playing in some capacity. Throw in Dante Exum, Ben Simmons & Thom Maker and hopefully we can finally secure that medal! Fair to say this was the best effort by a Boomers tram that we've seen.
  16. Well overal i've enjoyed watching these games, however as a whole i feel the 2016 Rio games will be looked back on as a bit of a bust. This isn't just from an Australian medals perspective, but from an event perspective. Half empty stadiums, green diving & water polo pools. The french pole vaulter being heckled when getting his medal presented, the ioc official being arrested for scalping, the idiots from the crowd running onto the course at the end of the womens marathon, the ryan lochte debacle, the 9 aussie athletes being arrested and detained for hours for simply sneaking into an event. That happens here and they get kicked out, end of story! There have been some great moments also like Hamblin & D'Agostino, the Fijian rugby team and the Brazilians in the soccer. But i don't recall a recent Olympics with so many issues throughout. The IOC may well steer clear of some of the less developed cities in the future and play it a bit more safe. This bodes poorly for Budapest bid for the 2024 games i feel. But i'm hoping the boomers can create history and land our 30th medal tonight! And who knows, maybe a miracle in the mountain bike or marathon can land us a final gold and try and claim we've improved on London after all.
  17. Young list, having trouble backing up after two very good weeks. We were able to get away with this type of performance against Gold Coast, not Carlton, who still have the nucleus of a team that played in a semi final three years ago and have played finals 4 of the last 7 years. They also field a 22 that regularly rank from about 7th - 11th for average ge & games experience compared to us who are always in the bottom 4. Disappointed with the loss, but not the end of the world. It wouldn't surprise me to see us win next week.
  18. The only way that's true is if Essendon were offering him 655K a year for 4, as what I heard from a very good source was that Melbourne's offer is only 70K a year more.
  19. We'll land Hibberd Make a play for O'Meara and failing him i can see a left field attempt at Paul Ahern from GWS Will also seek a back up ruck with the ability to play forward eg Zac Clarke, Nathan Vardy. Guaranteed to leave the club: Grimes, Terlich, Max King, Michie 50/50 stay or go via trade, delist or retire: Trengove, Dawes, Pedersen, Dunn, Garland, Lumumba, Newton, Neal-Bullen, Matt Jones, JKH
  20. “We always seem to play an away game, or a game at Etihad Stadium in a secondary timeslot. Said Campbell. Maybe because shitihad is your home ground you Muppet!
  21. Not wrong Macca, and to take a glass half full approach, it gives us something to chase. Once the reviews are done and funding restructured, hopefully adopting a similar approach to the UK, we can start to rectify the situation. The Comm Games in April 2018 will be a good measuring stick to see where we're at.
  22. The overflow of funding from a home Olympics. Same happened with us as we got more gold in Athens then we did in Sydney. Mens K4 1000 just never looked in it tonight. Real shame.
  23. The kid was about 30 seconds away from being fixed half way through last year. Was playing his break out game v St Kilda at Etihad with 26 touches and a couple of goals. He had the ball on a string in the third term. Then with less then a minute to go, he let his man Montagna drift forward and kick a goal to win the game. Any confidence the Toump would have built disappeared and the rest is history.
