  1. Best case scenario to get Harley Reid. Assuming North Melbourne get Pick 3 compensation for McKay. Melbourne trade Grundy to Sydney Sydney trade Pick 31 to Adelaide & Pick 42 to Melbourne Adelaide trade McAdam to Melbourne. Melbourne trade Picks 14, 25, 33 & 42 to Gold Coast Gold Coast trade Pick 5 & Chol to Melbourne. Melbourne trade Pick 5 (from Gold Coast), future 1st Round Pick, Harmes & Tomlinson to North Melbourne North Melbourne trade Pick 2 & 60 (points for potential Brown F/S bid) to Melbourne Melbourne trade Pick 2 (from North) & Pick 6 to West Coast West Coast trade Pick 1 & future 2nd or 3rd Round Pick. We'll also be a chance for band 5 compensation for Jordon leaving as a Free Agent I reckon being approx Pick 53.
  2. Excuses are there. But they're just that. Excuses. Fact of the matter is we could and should have won both last night and last week. We've lost 4 consecutive finals, all on the MCG with three of them being to teams ranked lower who don't have the G as their home ground. We need to take our opportunities otherwise we'll risk turning into the Essendon of 99-01, just not as good. I think we already have the majority of what we need. Petty and Van Rooyen up forward with Fritsch, Pickett and McAdam (next year) for some x factor. May (few more years) and Lever marshalling the young troops in Rivers, McVee, Bowey and Disco Turner with Salem hopefully getting back to his best. Gawn (few more years) leading Viney, Trac, Oliver, Sparrow, Langdon and Hunter in the middle. Hopefully all it will take will be the polished of Harley Reid, maybe recruiting someone like Chol for that ruck back up and some more creative coaching and that can be enough to turn it all around...
  3. Cam Pedersen mould. Kicked over 70 goals in his career to date and often played 2nd ruck at Hawthorn. Having 4 specialist rucks on a list is too many and doesn't give the young ones the exposure at Casey they need to develop. Unless of course they plan on cutting one of Verrell or Farris-White. Then Goldstein would be perfect.
  4. Sorry, got my ex Hawthorn players mixed up. Haha. I meant Tim O'Brien.
  5. He's an ideal replacement should Max get injured, however don't we want someone who doesn't have to play ruck the whole time at Casey and stifle the development of Verrell and Farris-White? I think someone like Scott Lycett or Mitch Thorpe could suit our list development needs better as we can play them forward at Casey if needed?
  6. If North get Pick 3 for McKay, I expect they'll trade Pick 2 & 3 to West Coast for Pick 1 and steak knives (maybe Gaff after all). This gives North access to Reid, West Coast will take Curtain at 2 and use 3 on another mid. Will leave us in the cold, but I'd be happy if we got Watson.
  7. Agree, really grinds my gears the price we ended up paying considering those who had done it before and that now it's considered good practice. I'm open to a weighted draft lottery to be conducted in week before the finals with all the non finalists in contention. Something like the wooden spooner has a 25% chance of getting the Number 1 pick all the way up to 9th who has a 1% chance. Then from Pick 11 onwards it's all on ladder position. Or alternatively have teams aquire points over a 4 year rolling period. 1 point for winning the flag and 18 points for finishing last. Whoever has the most points over that 4 year period gets Pick 1 all the way up to whoever has the least amount of points having Pick 18.
  8. Even with the recent decline in production of AFL players from Tasmania. If you put the 24 players into a team and got them to go out and play, they'd at the very least be capable of getting a win against a few current AFL teams. Lack some depth in the midfield and small forwards, but it's certainly not a bad team on paper. FB: Jake Kolodjashnij (Geel), Alex Pearce (Frem), Ryan Mansell (Rich) HB: Jeremy Howe (Coll), Liam Jones (Carl), Jimmy Webster (St K) C: Aaron Hall (NM), Lachie Weller (GC), Lachie Cowan (Carl) HF: Taryn Thomas (NM), Brodie Mihocek (Coll), Seth Campbell (Rich) FF: Jack Riewoldt (Rich), Ben Brown (Melb), Jye Menzie (Ess) FOLL: Toby Nankervis (Rich), Chayce Jones (Adel), Hugh Greenwood (NM) INT: Sam Banks (Rich), Robbie Fox (Syd), Tom McCallum (PA), Andrew Phillips (Ess) SUB: Ryan Gardner (WB) EMERG: Cameron Owen (Syd) Throw in a handful or Mainland free agents (one or two big names) and you have the makings of a competitive team.
  9. Interesting. My data is from zero hanger as well😂. This one names the 24. Not sure all 24 have played senior footy yet though? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.zerohanger.com/which-afl-players-are-from-tasmania-expansion-130042/amp/
  10. I count 24 personally. Still it's not as large as one would like. Tasmania may say the lack of numbers is due to the state being overlooked and taken for granted by the AFL so long. Hopefully with the introduction of a team, things will start to change. I for one am not as pessimistic about Tasmania's ability to retain players. Adelaide and Port Adelaide do a pretty good job at retaining players on their lists who come from outside of Adelaide. If you can convince someone in their 20's to stay in Adelaide, then you can convince someone in their 20's to stay in Hobart IMO. Just need to make sure the place has a good culture and has the right people in charge.
  11. Tasmania Devils theme song (to the tune of Little Peter Rabbit Had a Fly Upon his nose) We're the Tassie Devils, we play with heart and pride. We'll forge a great tradition that can never be denied. We play it tough, we play to win, we are the premier side. And we'll bring the flag back home! Like Tassie players of old, we'll always represent you. Our faith is in eachother, that's what will always see us through. Don't you ever write us off, no matter what we do. And we'll bring the flag back home! Tassie Devils forever. Like brothers* we will stick together. We're never beaten, no not ever. And we'll bring the flag back home. We'll bring the flag back home! *Substitute with sister for AFLW team. Here's the tune if you need to hear it. Casey Scorpions old song.
  12. I reckon a Margaret River (region) team playing out of Bunbury. With Bunbury, Busselton and Margaret River combined the population is well over 130,000 not to mention the other towns in the region and a bit further North of Bunbury. Would be a popular away trip for supporters.
  13. So happy with this news!!! Now onto Chandler & Jordon. First free agent target for Tassie Devils is my prediction.😬
  14. While I agree, the optics don't look great spending this much money on a stadium it seems a lot of people don't want when there's other areas that money could go into. I do believe it's the right call. Belreive is a major hassle to get to which is only accessible by bus really. And the recent construction of Optus Stadium and redevelopment/move of the Adelaide teams to Adelaide Oval has shown that having the grounds close to the heart of the city totally revitalises it and pumps life in. The Feds are still less than 12 months into their public housing plan to fix the homeless problem, so this is something that needs some time take shape. I do hope something is done about finding another site or even incorporating the Indigenous site into where the Stadium will be. It's a bad look otherwise. Hopefully they do get a roof and can play AFL, Big Bash and international ODI's and T20's out of it. Belrieve can remain the home of cricket Tasmania and play Shield and Test cricket. Soccer can co fund a redevelopment of North Hobart and keep out of the new Stadium.
  15. We won that day if I'm not mistaken?
  16. Wouldn't be surprised if list sizes get reduced to something like 34 senior, 4 rookie and 2 Cat B rookies. Might be the AFL's way of spreading out the talent pool.
  17. Agree with the above, though I'd be willing to go for 2 tests. Their problem is that there's no obvious replacement for him. It would have been Pucovski, but it's well documented his personal issues. All I'll say is thank God Khawaja is playing well, otherwise we'd be in big trouble at the top of the order.
  18. Went along today and all I'll say is that as disappointing a loss as today was for Casey, it was as equally an impressive win for Richmond. Winning at Casey Fields is not easy, and they ran and spread really well from contest to contest while nullifying our run. They were also very accurate in front of goal, at one stage being 14.4 while at one point we were 2.10. That there was the game. My take outs from this week. 1. James Harmes has given himself every chance of a recall. He was clearly our best and competed all day. 2. Casey's senior players are very important. No Munro, no White and no Buntine today and Casey lost. There should have been enough AFL experience out there to cover, however you could tell that senior core was still missed. Especially Munro. 3. Top heavy Casey. Today Casey went in with Bell in the ruck, Farris-White 2nd ruck, Brown, McDonald, Jefferson and Sestan forward. As a result Richmond ran the ball out of the back line with ease and got to 28 points in front. Casey started to get back into it once McDonald moved into the ruck and Casey ensured they always had at least 2 of Bell, Farris-White, Brown, Jefferson or McDonald on the bench and improved their run across the ground. This could mean we won't see Bell with Casey for a while. 4. Bad kicking = Bad football. Casey had more scoring shots and could have easily won had they converted better. Mean while Richmond converted most opportunities and deserved their victory. Until next time.
  19. JVR, Jefferson and Sestan developing, Brown and McDonald both contracted for another year plus Schache showing promising early VFL form. I think Georgiades is talented, but don't see him as a priority.
  20. Australia’s 17-man Ashes squad: Usman Khawaja, David Warner, Marcus Harris, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Matt Renshaw, Cameron Green, Mitchell Marsh, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitch Starc, Scott Boland, Nathan Lyon, Todd Murphy, Alex Carey, Josh Inglis. Handscomb a little stiff, but otherwise no real surprissurprises for mine. I expect Warner will be given at least the first two tests. But if he's struggling and/or we're down early in the series the selectors may look to make a move. Harris is in good County form.
  21. Guys (& or girls), Have been contemplating doing another Best XI (Test) for the cricket tragics here which was last done 10 years ago back in 2013. The most we can have is 8 players so if you're interested let us know in this thread please. We'd ideally like frequent visitors to this thread who are keen on having a go at this. So that the Draft doesn't take too long. However, I understand work and other committments make it hard to visit every now and then, plus we have all the upcoming World Test final and Ashes series on the horizon. Once we have the 'eight players' locked away I'll create the thread. For those who haven't played before it's like a Draft. I'll get eight names and eight numbers, draw them out and that will be the draft order. Each subsequent round the order will reverse. (For equalisation purposes). I think the last time we had : - 6 Bats, 1Wk, 4 Bowlers as a template. So, we'll use that again. Though all rounders are obviously interchangeable. Why eight players ? Because it amounts to 88 players worldwide, which is equivalent to 8 (main) international teams and it gets difficult if we have any more players. ie. 9 players would require a 99 player pool and we'd be scraping the barrel for players. So register here and we'll get the ball rolling eventually... Criteria will be a minimum of 1 current player from each of the main 8 nations (Australia, England, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, New Zealand & West Indies). The 3 remaining players you can either pick a 2nd player from any of those 8 nations or a player from the 4 lesser Test nations (Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan & Ireland). Just a bit of fun... What is the reward?.... Bragging rights. We currently have 4 players secured being myself @Rogue @Macca and @Scipio so just require 4 more. Please advise if you're interested?
  22. Fair call. I generally don't mind Kane Cornes and his sometimes over the top but bluntly honest calls. But he clearly goes very soft towards most (but not all) things Port and in particular JHF. He cops a bit does JHF, but still thinks he cops nothing compared to the criticism Jack Watts used to get.
  23. I've been to Adelaide several times, granted mainly in the mid 2000's so my response to that is what public transport??? Must have improved a lot in the last 15 years. Outside of the tram to Glenelg and some very sad looking two carriage trains, you'd of been forgiven for assuming they didn't have any....
  24. The whole concept of Gathering round CAN work, however in the current climate with the way the AFL fixture works, it just makes an already unfair fixture all the more unfair by giving Adelaide and Port an extra home game on everyone else and two unlucky teams (Carlton and Bulldogs this year) an extra away game. Reduce the season to 17 Rounds (everyone plays eachother once) and Adelaide play Port in Gather Round and it works perfectly. Everyone gets 8 home games, 8 away games and a neutral gather round match. But we know that won't happen. Few (realistic) changes I'd like to see for next year. 1. No more double headers. Restrict Adelaide Oval to a maximum of 4 matches, one each day from Thursday to Sunday. 2. Move the Mt Baker match to somewhere in the Barossa Valley. I think this is already in the works. 3. By getting rid of the Adelaide Oval double headers, play two games at Glenelg. It has a larger capacity then Norwood, has lights and is in a popular tourist area of Adelaide. I'm amazed it wasn't used before Norwood. 4. Ensure whoever is unlucky enough to draw Adelaide and Port Adelaide receive fewer interstate trips than everyone else. Only way to make it remotely fair. 5. If it's in Adelaide for the next 3 years, then Gather Round 2027 should be in Tasmania with Tassie to enter the competition in 2028. Play 3 games at Belleville Oval, 3 games at York Park, 2 at KGV Oval (Glenorchy) and 1 at Devonport Oval.
