  1. Remember guys "innocent until proven guilty"

At the moment there just accusations

    Who knows what really happened

He has admitted it. Pretty had not to when its there in glorious video footage..

Obviously didn't fit in it the Filth so thought he needed to get himself a record.

  2. usually you would probably think so, but there was an interesting discussion about this on SEN (or MMM - was flicking between both) on Saturday morning.

Apparently the GWS are making a big play for Dustin Martin, offering him up to $500k a year (as reported by either SEN or MMM) - what they were saying is that the young guns will be overpaid in the next coming years as dictated by what GWS or GC will offer these players. Clubs have to try and counteract these types of payments with big money in order to keep them.

if i was Richmond I would be fuming if this happened

FFS this is pathetic (I know you were just reporting you heard it...). Martin like all draftees is on a two year contract. They are NOT allowed to talk to him until the end of 2011!!!!!!!!

  3. Not sure why this has not received any mentions.

In the last quarter on Friday night Bennell failed to put his body on the line. The ball was loose in front of Bennell, a bulldog player came sliding in and Bennell jumped over him instead of attacking the ball. Clearly chose not to contest the footy. I watched the replay again last night to make sure.

I think he has great skill and speed, and hopefully can be come an important player at Melbourne, but after this one I'd send him back to the VFL this week to work on his attitude.

You guys are missing several things:

Firstly Bennell is a small guy and a player sliding in can give/receive enormous damage to themselves or a player they collide with. Its simply not worth it in the long run. A Bennell out for 10 weeks does no good to the team for 1 brave/foolhardy act to appease you.

Secondly, the tackling on Friday was very intelligent. They did not give away silly free kicks which you would often do by barging in. What they did on a lot of occasions was waited a fraction of a second before tackling the player legally.

Thirdly, my observation is that you have never played the game at any senior level have you? There are smart ways to engage the opposition on a wet and slippery night and there are dumb ways. The smart way is what Bennell did when he scored that fantastic goal.

  4. Once again we lost a game because of 2 goals resulting from errors kicking in. Jack Grimes in q1, and Chip Frawley in q2(though the bloke on the mark hardly seemed far enough away). In a low scoring game, a side CANNOT afford to surrender 2 goals so easily.

Both these players have excellent disposal, and can normally be trusted in kick-ins. But with the wet ball , I think the "defensive fall back tactic", i.e. the long kick as wide as possible to the pack, should be considered even more than usual when there are few options upfield.

Chip Frawley's should never have happened. It was a result of the WRONg Sylvia out on the full decision.

  5. What about Aker's tackle on Frawley?

If there was ever a holding the ball decision then that was it, holding the ball every day of the year.

You guys are wrong on this!! If a player gets tackled and disposes correctly its play on. Thats what happened with Dunn. The prior opportunity ONLY comes into play if Dunn doesn't dispose of the pill correctly.

  6. Frustrating to see how slow Blease's progress is. Still in the seconds.

The seniors though are surely going to win given the quality there. That backline is insane!

Great to see Morton back too. Not long till he's back in the side :)

Blease has played 1 game - let me repeat that ONE GAME - in nearly 2 years. He along with Watts were the two youngest players taken in the 2008 draft (we took young guns because GC17 got dibs on all the good 17yo's in 2009). Serious injury - remember Nathan Brown??? - needs plenty of time.

You may be frustrated but FFS be realistic about how long it takes to build footballers.

  7. If the 2000 flag came to us by default I would ji#z in my pants.

    DEFAULT DEFAULT DEFAULT

On a serious note, I think the saints and dons will be right. Even if they did breach they would only cop a fine and be stripped a draft pick or two.

Not the Dons. They have form. Were penalised in 1996 for breaches between 91 and '96. They won a flag in his period remember.....

  8. If he felt sufficiently committed to the MFC to donate $10k - why did he walk out a year later? It doesn't make sense - unless he suddenly realized that he wasn't going to get the captaincy. Perhaps I'm being unfair - but his change of heart was inexplicable

Anyway Brock thanks for the donation.

I look forward to cheering on Jordan Gysberts for years to come

I thought it was common knowledge that he wouldn't play or wasn't up to DBs game plan. The major point being his defensive work was sub-par.

  9. Last year we played Adelaide at the G on a freezing (14deg) Subday afternoon at 4:40pm. We got bagged widely in the media cos we only had 14,400ish.

The previous day at 2pm Sat afternoon in bright sunshine, Geelong played Richmond at Kardinia Park and only had 15,000. Not a word spoken.

The whole crowd thing makes me scream. Perception is reality people and we have to stop the perception we draw small crowds. We may not be able to get 90k (altho we did for the 2000 GF) but we regularly get 60k for QB - a home game against a big drawing team. The draw is stuffed but we cannot let media stereotypes about crowd numbers to flourish.

  10. Personally these are the changes I would like to see made, however I know that Dean will not make them.

    1. Watts in for Petterd. I know this is controversial but I beleive Watts would be better off playing in the AFL despite not setting the world alight in the VFL. His body may not be ready but either is Scully's but he gets a game.

    2. Gysberts in for Bennell. I thought Bennell went missing on Saturday and I am under the impression that Gysberts has been showing some real class for Casey since he started two or three weeks ago. If we do half as well out of this trade as we did out of the TJ trade then Gysberts will be quite good.

    3. Strauss in for Joel MacDonald. Joel was a terrible user of the ball against North. I remember as we were going in to our 50 once he tried to chip a kick of a North player instead of handballing. It went straight into the North player and was a costly turnover. Strauss is the future and everyone knows his kicking has been outstanding at Casey, and will be in the AFL when he gains a bit of confidence. The other boys need to help him out though and actually MOVE when we are kicking out.

Obviously it is not quite fair to leave out Bail and Jordie but I am not sure of their injury status so I have left them out.

While my three changes are all youth focused I do not think that is a bad thing. We are highly unlikely to make finals this year so it is the perfect year to make changes to see who will make and who will not, this is best determined by the boys playing at AFL level rather than VFL level.

    Edit: spelling

IMO they won't drop Joel MacD. He played a poor game but they need his solid body and experience against the Doggies. Should do well on Hahn I reckon. And for third man up against Bazza.

Gysberts for Bennell is more interesting. We wouldn't lose much and just might gain some cleaner disposal.

  11. i agree he should be in, but the HOF is all over the shop.

on of our great players deserves to be in there.

    G Lyon

    200+ games

    400+ goals

    captain, B&F winner,

    5 time All Aus

9 time Victoria Rep inc. Vice captain and Captain

Coached his country for 4 years.

Crazy that he is not in.

I think there is a limit on how many can be inducted each year. Gary will probably get in eventually. The older we get the better he was....

  12. I think the Footy committee had worked out Rivers liabilities hence Garland, Frawley and Warnock preferred to Rivers for Brisbane. And he was only a late replacement last week for Bail. Hardly a ringing endorsement

Not sure about that. he was returning from injury and needed the Casey run.

But yes they are most likely aware of his strengths and weaknesses.

  13. Australian hockey ex-Captain and Coach Ric Charlesworth said a number of years ago when assisting at WCE that it has taken AFL 100 years to work out that you are allowed to kick the ball backwards.

The only way to stop this nonsense is to restrict the interchange. In years gone by players couldn't run for 4 quarters and we had less collision type injuries. We also had more one-on-one contests and IMO footy was generally more attractive to watch.

Can't stand this basketball/soccer/hockey zone crap.
