Everything posted by KC from Casey

  1. Half time: Casey Demons 7.8.50 to AFLNT Redtails 5.3.33.
  2. So despite the low profile (and my absence), the Redtails game is taking place. Quarter time: Casey Demons 3.2.20 lead AFLNT Redtails 2.1.13.
  3. As the pre season practice matches get under way, here's a comprehensive article from the Cranbourne Leader on the club's list changes for 2017:- Casey Demons have added 10 TAC Cup graduates to their list The first practice match is against the Central Australian Redtails at Casey Fields this Saturday with the full roster of games as follows:- March 4 at 3.00pm v Redtails (NT) at Casey Fields March 10 at 7.00pm Intraclub at Casey Fields March 19 at 11.00am v Port Melbourne at Casey Fields (Development League at 2.00pm) March 25 at 11.30am v Williamstown at Casey Fields (Development League at 2.00pm) April 1 at 1.30pm v Box Hill Hawks at Casey Fields (Development League at 11.00am) April 8 at 2.00pm v Werribee at Casey Fields (Development League at 11.00am)
  4. No OD. I believe that the club's already announced that it has ruled out an appearance by JW. I suspect that this is a game for which the Casey listed players will be given an opportunity to impress without much input from the MFC listed players. The Redtails are not a full time NTFL side and apparently will be bringing a number of youngsters. In all likelihood (and no offence intended), they would probably get spanked if they had to face a team full of AFL listed players like JW and a few of the others who would be in the Demons' best 22. A game against mainly VFL listed players would be a good hit out for both groups.
  5. I haven't got this on any authority from the club but it would appear that this is not going to be a very high profile game and it's not likely that many Demons will be lining up.
  6. The article does say he won't be playing next weekend against the Redtails from Central Australia. He could still go to WA the following week or play for Casey v Williamstown a week before they play Port Melbourne.
  7. As mentioned above, the first Casey Demons practice match will be against a team from Central Australia. REDTAILS TO TAKE ON CASEY DEMONS IN MELBOURNE
  8. Casey Demons Practice Matches 2017 (all to be confirmed) March 4 at 3.00pm v Redtails (NT) at Casey Fields March 19 at 11.00am v Port Melbourne at Casey Fields (Development League at 2.00pm) March 25 at 11.30am v Williamstown at Casey Fields (Development League at 2.00pm) April 1 at 1.30pm v Box Hill Hawks at Casey Fields (Development League at 11.00am) April 8 at 2.00pm v Werribee at Casey Fields (Development League at 11.00am)
  9. Not much to update at this stage but the VFL website has a link to VFL list changes for 2017 which will continue to be updated as further list changes are confirmed by clubs. At this stage there's less information on the site than in previous posts above but I believe the list will be finalised soon. CASEY - In: Ben Giobbi (Noble Park) / Yilber Zijai (Sandringham) - Out: Yarran Jaffer-Williams (Port Melbourne) / Declan Keilty (Melbourne AFL) / Oscar McInerney (Brisbane AFL) / Tim Smith (Melbourne AFL) A couple of players from Frankston in Nathan Foote and Nathan Gardiner have been mentioned (along with big McGrath) as possible recruits from that club which is currently in recess. I must say that it's time the Casey Demons got the website up and running so that fans could be better informed. Perhaps they're going to run it as part of the MFC site? Which reminds me I need to update my avatar.

  11. In addition to the return of Mitch Gent and the arrival of big Blake McGrath as mentioned above, another signing is former Sandringham and Noble Park player Yilber 'Bella' Zijai. TAC cuppers Tom Glen, Danny Allsop, Kyle Beveridge, Kirk Dickson, Lachlan Gill-Renouf and Charlie Martello of the Dandenong Stingrays and Trent Armour, Kieran Byers, Ethan East, Keenan Hughes, Jai Rout and Nathan Voss of Gippsland Power are all training with the Casey Demons.
  12. The impending train wreck could be a Demon next year. Training at the Casey Demons.
  13. The 2017 VFL fixture was announced last week and I also dealt with in the AGM thread. We will now be the Casey Demons and to conform with the new identity, I will be appropriately changing the title of this thread to "Casey Demons 2017 News". "Jackson said the club had been in discussions with VFL affiliate the Casey Scorpions about playing as the Casey Demons in 2017. Casey is expected to wear Melbourne colours in the VFL next season. 'We've been in discussions with the Casey Scorpions to amend out alignment agreement with them, which was a 10-year agreement that runs until the end of 2018,' Jackson said. 'We expect in 2017 that we'll change the name of the VFL team to the Casey Demons and play in the Melbourne jumper.' Demons CEO Jackson earns contract extension And in other news, former small man Mitch Gent looks like returning to the fold in 2017.
  14. This is a subject that I've thought about a lot over the years and my answer might surprise a few but I think the renaming might be the best thing to happen for the Casey Scorpions Demons. The club originated in Springvale which underwent significant population changes from the 1980s and as such would have struggled to survive at this level had the decision to relocate not been made a decade ago. However, the move to Casey Fields was also problematic because Casey had little identity at the time. The Casey municipality was created in the 1990s as part of Jeff Kennett's overhaul of local councils. It essentially merged two councils - Cranbourne and Berwick and the club found itself located just outside Cranbourne which already had its own strong local club with an identity of its own and some natural resistance to embracing the relocated club. What we've seen in my view at Casey is a club with declining support from the old Springvale following and not enough local support although that should change because the closer residential environment around Casey Fields is growing at a substantial rate. It's good to see that with the new name there will still be recognition and respect for the Springvale tradition while the club moves forward into the future and will continue to foster the game for both men and now women in the area. There will be some old Springvale supporters who are not happy but you have to be realistic and embrace the future. Casey Scorpions set to drop name and jumper and tighten links with Melbourne Demons Ironically, yesterday's announcement came on the same day on which the 2017 fixture was announced with the club shown on it as "Casey" rather than "Casey Scorpions". Perhaps somebody knew?
  15. I think I read a tweet from the club last week advertising for players to form a Casey Scorpions women's team. I suppose they now will be the Casey Demons,.
  16. Yours too BBO. The relocation to Romsey was under close consideration for some time but the President discovered he had an allergy to llamas and the move was shelved.
  17. There is a rough association of players from TAC Clubs with VFL Clubs but players are not strictly bound e.g. quite a few Gippsland Power players who work or study in the city have been playing with clubs other than Casey. I expect that Brayshaw will go to the Dragons because he lives close by but who knows? With Frankston in recess this year, some more Dandenong Stingrays should join Casey but there would only be a limited number of places available for TAC Cup kids with one less VFL club in the area - The Dandenong Stingrays are ‘dumbfounded’ Bailey Morrish was overlooked in the rookie draft
  18. Paul Amy of Leader Newspapers is reporting that highly rated exiting Dandenong Stingray Bailey Morrish training at Casey Scorpions after surprisingly being overlooked in the rookie draft.
  19. The coming week is going to be big for the Casey ? Scorpions with the AFL National and Rookie Drafts likely to claim as many as three players - Declan Keilty, Tim Smith and Oscar McInerney. That hasn't prevented the Scorpions from moving ahead with their recruiting plans for next year and beyond. The club has recruited Noble Park midfielder and 2016 Eastern Football League Young Gun winner Ben Giobbi whose brother Andrew played with Frankston until the Dolphins were dumped from the VFL due to their financial crisis.
  20. No but I don't really go to the club much once the season is over.
  21. It has been suggested to me that 204cm Oscar is likely to be drafted before Melbourne's first pick is called out at 47. Here's a story in the local news on the young Casey tall - Scorpion Oscar McInerney, all 204cm of him, is attracting interest from AFL clubs
  22. Congratulations to the skipper Jack Hutchins, winner of the Gardner Clark Medal from Alex Neal-Bullen with Declan Keilty finishing in third place. ?
