Some of the game styles played these days may seem ugly, but a well fought out, tight game is still a spectacle to watch. The problem, to me, isn't necessarily the style of play, but the disparity between teams. There's generally only about a third of the league that is a genuine contender for the flag. Sure everyone would like to get into the finals, but when you're just making up the numbers is loses it's gloss somewhat. If anyone was to get the blame for killing the game, it would be HQ with their bloody fixtures and rule changes.

I caught this song on Rage last night whilst doing a bit of channel surfing.

Yeah I'm not one of them, and besides, the BMW looks much better in my driveway! It's got to the stage where we have to educate ourselves and others to make more conscious decisions as consumers. I note in the news that #BoycottBali seems to be having an effect on Indonesian tourism. So we have the capacity to be proactive about some issues, we just need to be more active on more fronts. Matthew Evans did a great series recently called What's The Catch. He showed some of the appalling practices in our local and imported seafood industry. And one the major problem seems to be that we put money before ourselves and the longevity of our planet. Business owners claim that changing our labeling standards will be cost prohibitive, leading to resistance from our politicians make intelligent decisions. So the onus now rests with us to effect change. SumOfUs are doing some great work in this regard.

A recent visit to see my niece and nephew exposed me to some music that I wouldn't necessarily hear. Their favourite line, which they repeated incessantly, was "You know what to do with that big fat butt". Not being familiar with with that particular lyric meant it required some youtube research. Turns out it's Jason Derulo - Wiggle, but I was lucky enough to come accross a cover version by Scott Bradlee & The Postmodern Jukebox. It's a serious improvement on the original in my opinion. And they have many other great covers.- 153 replies

How is that any different to what happened at the Hawks? They lose Buddy in 2013, keep their compo and then pick up Frawley for nothing last year. The rorting is already happening with the current rules.
-
The problem isn't necesarily the compensation, it's the net compensation. When we lost Frawley, we were effectively removed from free agency so as not to risk diluting our compensation. This would be a concern for the AFLPA due to there being a situation where it reduces the number of clubs being able to actively bid for free agents.

I found that Tsingtao was a pretty decent beer when I was in China. It's basically a German beer (The brewery was founded and run by German settlers), just with a chinese twist (it's a rice Pilsner). I've tried it a few times since coming back to Oz, but unfortunately it just doesn't taste the same. A friend recently introduced me to the delights of Trappist Monk beers. They're hard to find, but managed to track down some Chimay Blue recently. Well worth it, a very tasty beverage.

You need an adapter. I've got a Slimport plus a HDMI cable to connect my mobile to the TV. I think from memory is cost me about $50.

It'd be easier just to buy him the AFL Global Pass. You can watch all the games live and on demand on tablets and phones. I've got the AFL Live app and can hook my phone up to the TV.

ABC has recently started playing repeats of the Aussie comedy "Problems". Which reminded me how funny Samm Simmons was. He made it onto Conan Obrien's show last year and did some great segments on "Dirty Laundry". There's also a standup show he did on ABC that's available on youtube. He reminds me a little of Andy Kaufman, just because he can be so obscure sometimes.

Deanox is right, positive blood tests aren't necessary for a violation to occur. AFL Anti Doping Code The code also sets out the standard of proof required. I was under the impression that the case was based on intent to use. The players apparently signed waiver forms that weren't specific, stating "thymosin" only, leaving it open to speculation as to exactly which drug is was. That coupled with the recent public revelation that Essendon/Charter/Dank may have procured TB4 from a Chinese manufacturer, seems to indicate that ASADA have some pretty damning evidence. WJ mentions a few pages back that McDevitt claims to also have evidence of actual use. If that's is the case you'd have to assume that ASADA have well and truly covered their burden of proof. -
Sad news for cycling fans. Andy Schleck retires. He's certainly seemed out of sorts in the last tour. A crowd favourite, will be missed.

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
Jack Jack replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
Wow, that seems brutal but explains why WADA where upset at the Cronulla sanctions. I guess if they've all been educated on this then ignorance is no excuse, but it seems totally at odds with the AFL. They are saying that every athlete should know what they are taking, fair enough. But AFL players are basically fully catered for while at the club, training and game day. Based on that, unless a player brings in his own food and drinks, they've opened themselves up to the potential coping a ban by being doped without their knowledge. -
Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
Jack Jack replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think I've got my terms mixed up. I meant to refer to the "no significant fault" provision (which is a reduction of ineligibility) as opposed to the "no fault" clause (which is an elimination of ineligibility). Like I said, it's hard to know where speculation ends and the truth begins. I was just using AOD as an example, but if the players signed a waiver for Thymomodulin but were administered TB-4, surely that would be a good case for "no significant fault" -

I was under the impression that, although the players signed off on the waivers, there wasn't necessarily waivers for all the drugs administered. And certainly there was at least one drug, AOD-9604, that was not signed off by Reid, the club doctor. It's hard to know exactly where speculation ends and the facts begin in all of this. But you would think that with Essendon's failings in regard the management of the drugs the players have a very good case for the "no fault" provision. -
Jack Trengove re-injures his navicular (2014) - trade deal off
Jack Jack replied to Wiseblood's topic in Melbourne Demons
Technically we only need 1 live pick. Jetta upgrade counts for 1 and Stretch the other. I don't like the thought of trading out Trengove. And I can't understand why Beams would want to come to us after saying he wants to be up north with his brother and father. But if we did get Beams and Dangermouse how could we complain about that? -

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JEFF GARLETT
Jack Jack replied to Demon3's topic in Melbourne Demons
Welcome aboard Jeff. He's certainly made it into the AFL the hard way. And what's not to like about his pedigree? If he can get back to enjoying his footy again and kick a few then it'll be a massive win. And at the price we paid it's hard to see a downside.
