  1. Its easy...we have the same team as last year although now we have Hogan instead of Frawley (who was nothing special as a forward). Our backline has had 12 months without Frawley being a key player and performed. Plus we have added a 100+ game 180 goal crumber which we didn't have last year and a 199 game former all australian half back who just finished 4th in Collingwoods b&f. We may have not improved the potential team that we may have been able to field at the start of last year. But we have definitely improved the team that we rolled out 90% of the time last year. If you want to sit back and continue to dream about the potential that we could have had, well i welcome you to do that. It's clear to me that we have done well out of the circumstances.
  2. Really??? Frawley played forward with little effect. Replaced in the side with Hogan. Terlich was running off half back. Replaced with Lamumba. We didn't even have a crumbing forward. Insert Garlett. Clark didn't play..hence no loss. How do we have a weaker squad?
  3. If we were able to do a Tyson like trade this year i'd be looking at doing something with the Suns. They have both pick 8 and 15, whereas GWS have 4, 21 & 24. I'd be looking at something like Jesse Lonergan (or insert promising young player here) and pick 8 for our pick 3.
  4. He may turn out great...but by now it should be common knowledge that you trade for ruckmen, not spend a high pick on them. Let someone else carry him for 5 years. There have been plenty of great ruckmen come from the rookie draft.
  5. Once we land Dangerfish, i hope we turn our attention to Jarryd Flathead...
  6. It is unfair....although its all swings and roundabouts. People need to remember we got Viney in similar circumstances.
  7. link to interview at the bottom of the link http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-10-03/delisted-demon-desperate-for-second-chance
  8. I made a couple of notes from the interview. Said he'd been training with an AIS running coach for the last couple of months, 4 times per week and feels as though he's making inroads with his endurance. He said that for the first 1/2 of the year that he and Roos didn't see eye to eye, but then backtracked a little and said he was a great coach. Also said that he isn't naturally defensive. So there you have it. The reason Sam isn't going to be on the MFC list this year is because......he cannot run out a game, listen to the coach or defend. Not too surprised about that really...but i do find it funny that its only the last couple of months that he's been doing extra running. Maybe the penny's dropped that his career is hanging by a thread.
  9. Haha...worst trade ever. Just to show how bad this trade is, We'd be better off trading pick 2 for merrett and ending up with Merrett and pick 3. Or even better for us, trade pick 3 for Merrett and end up with the sum of Merrett and Pick 2. I can't believe that these people get paid for this when at the end of the day Merrett would only be worth a pick in the late 40's.
  10. Not overly quick for a small guy, but has great agility and a very nice side step. Creates space for himself and uses the ball cleanly. Defiantly a bright spot from the 2014 season.
  11. I'm not sure if this has been posted, but there is an excellent article on fox footy website about the training regime that Jake Lloyd had undertaken since the age of 13. It shows the mental fortitude that is required to play AFL footy and also shows why players like Blease & Sylvia never make it, even with their undisputed talent. These are the types of players that Roos will build his team around. http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-premiership/few-men-have-worked-harder-to-pull-on-an-afl-jumper-than-sydney-swans-midfielder-jake-lloyd/story-e6frf3e3-1227063134188
  12. He wouldn't have cooked up this depression thing to get out of the club. He would have asked for a trade. If over the course of the last 5 months he came to the conclusion that he'd like to play for another club, well, that sucks, but all we can do is orchestrate a suitable trade and move on.
  13. I don't understand that tool Barrett. I just watched his and Gary's review of melbourne on the AFL website and he basically says that he can't see Melbourne turning it around next year. He also states that we haven't finished in the finals since 2006...and predicts that not much will change next year and we'll finish in the bottom couple of teams. So why the hell don't we deserve a priority pick Damian? Don't you think that 8 year is enough for all of us suffering Demons supporters FFS!
  14. It's funny that some people around here don't get it. Roos plays a team based game plan that dictates the whole team working together, or it all falls apart. The common theme that Bail, Riley and Terlich posess is their work rate and tendency to do these team things and play by the team rules. The Blease's and Strauss' have the skill, but don't play this style. They either don't have the capacity to follow instructions, or don't have the will to defend. Until we find players that have both work rate and skill, players like Bail and Terlich will still get a game.
  15. Fair point...i'll trust Taylor, Roos and Viney to find the right mix as who really knows who is up for trade at the end of the season. I never thought that we'd land Tyson last year & i hope we can get a couple of beauties this trade period and actually start to move up the ladder. Oh and by the way, it's good to have a conversation with someone who has a different opinion who doesn't resort to negative name calling or d*ck measuring like a lot of other people do on here. cheers rjay.
  16. Goldsack is 193cm, 92kg and only 27 years old. Has been a very good defensive forward this year for the pies and can play as a marking forward. He also plays the style that suits a Paul Roos game plan, hits the contest hard and tackles. I agree that we need much more than him, although am not sure why you don't see any value in getting a guy like Goldsack? We have a void of good players in the 25-30 year age bracket and we cant rely on our younger players to step up consistently next year. Add to the fact that he can play both ends of the ground and i think his versatility would add a bit to the team.
  17. I have no idea if he would come to melbourne but he would be much better than what we currently have. Look at roos's history when trading people like Richards and Jolly etc in, at the time looked to be overs, but really he's never put a lot of currency on a pick number. At the end of the day melbourne need a number of experienced players, and if someone like Goldsack was interested to play for our team you'd need to look at bringing him in.
  18. I don't think a mid 30's pick is overs for Goldsack...May seem that way because we could get him for nothing, but that would dilute the Frawely compo. The funny thing about footy forums is that most people want to trade spuds for good players ie Nicholson and 4th rounder for Lewis jetta. Gotta give up something decent to get something decent
  19. Tyson Goldsack would be a great get for the MFC... I think he's a free agent although we'd want to trade for him...probably somewhere around a 2nd round pick is fair.
  20. Maybe Nate Jones needs to get his Bachelor of Early Childhood so he can lead our team. On a serious note...we need more than 1 good player. If we have the chance to bring in multiple good players with each of our early picks we should do it....its called building a TEAM...and currently our team is being carried by too few.
  21. You're right!!!! Don't lobby the AFL for a PP......We want our zone back!!! Neitz was a great Melbourne player....straight from a zone selection.
  22. It would be somewhat pleasurable to witness someone of the ilk of Jackson put that muppet of a human being Barrett back in his place. Alas, people like Jackson are on a whole different level to Barrett and would probably say "Damian Who???..." if someone even asked Jackson about him.
  23. I find it laughable people are saying that we don't deserve a PP due to stuffing up previous drafts. This is the exact reason that we need one. If we had have aced our drafting, and the record shows that we didn't, we wouldn't be having this conversation. The path that we have taken to got to our current position is irrelevant. What's relevant is our ongoing poor performance and the clear fact we need serious changes to the list. People were dumbfounded a couple of weeks ago when out of nowhere Roos raised the subject of tanking, saying that under his team there would be nothing of the sort. It all makes sense now, this throwaway line at his press conference was a precursor to us applying for a PP. He was grooming the public and AFL, effectively saying that every round of this season, we are trying hard to win. But again, the stats show that we are crap, and we need help. The timing of our application just happened to be after the most embarrassing loss of the season. I'm sure if the score line had have been reversed, we wouldn't have been applying on Monday.
  24. Do you think that someone like Shaun McKernan would be of interest to the MFC? Hasn't been a regular this year for the crows, yet to turn 24, could be acquired for relatively little and fill a KPF/ruck role that we have had little depth in this year?? I've always liked the look of him, although he hasn't been able to constantly put it together yet. The arrival of Podsiadley has meant that there hasn't been a place in the team for him this year. This would allow us to trade off our early picks for ready made midfielders and allow time for our younger players to gain experience.
