Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
With the risk of turning this thread in to a JW thread...... I have to disagree... First off i would llke to clarify i am not a Jack basher, im just calling it as i see it. Jack is a super talented outside player. Im also not saying he has to or should be traded. I believe now Jacks problems are jacks alone. I dont buy these excuses anymore. Jack needs to take responsibility for Jack. There is no argument this clus has been a massive basket case. But Jack has now had some of the leagues best development coaches for the last 3 to 4 years. Nathan Joness career didnt dwindle at this club (i acknowledge these are 2 very different players) but i really feel now its a bit of a cop out. You also talk about his finishing, and i strongly agrree, but it takes a team effort.to win a game, not 1 play from.Jack Watts. Let's not sell snake oil here. Fleeting in and out of games is not necessarily a solid.contribution. My understanding is the team philosphy is no passengers, i think jack needs to ask himself if he's a passanger or a contributor under the standards set down by the leadership group. It's really now up to jack. If he feels (or the club feels) he can't meet the requirements, then he shoild go. If he can biy in to the standards set by his peers I'm happy for him to stay. But no more excuses. The current reports in the media dont paint a great picture. Maybe just maybe Jack needs a wake up call

Agree @A F I dont know details all i know is criws have cap issues and had to re-sign a few. It's great news for us

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
Crows have cap issues. They'd be pushing the loyalty and take less play in a good team factor... Probably offered a couple years with the promise of his next contact to be more substantial. We obviously also rate him enough to pay to get him out of adelaide

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
I am assuming everyone is upset because the assumption on here is Jack Watts is being traded against his will.... I am not specifically commenting to anyone @binman - just general conversation
-
Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
Why is there an assumption Watts hasn't agreed to be traded? Edit: I'm not saying any specific trade is agreed to

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
I agree with you and what you've said. Couple of points i think needs to be considered First you need the list to win flags before you worry about payments. 800k if rumored is correct is not massive in todays terms. And lastly as a supporter i love hearing all the good (albeit unconfirmed news), but im not sure i like how public this lever news is with so long to go in the season. Things change quickly in afl
-
Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
Depends on how the payments are structure - just as an example Lever might be front ended and Trac could end up being back ended. Also would love to have that problem where Trac is demanding that type of money. Would have had a massive 2018.... Who would be the Dees highest paid player??? Jones or Hogan or someone else? Approx 800k?? I can't see too many demanding big money right now

Haha picket folded Never fold on the river @picket fence

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
- Tim Sheehan is reporting that Lever has told his teammates that he has committed to the Dees on big $$$ for 2018 Am going to giggle when this falls over - you'd think he (Lever) would wait until the Crows were out before making any decisions - and especially because don't the AFL rules say you can't commit until a certain date Sorry I cbf looking that date up - its around October when the players contracts expire.

Glaring weakness in defence
I was commenting re teams changing structure and tactics in a response to jnrmac disagreent. I agree with what you've said @binman

Glaring weakness in defence
Teams change set ups and styles all season. I'm not saying you have to believe it but to completely discredit it is silly. YOu can have your point on coaching falures etc I don't really care but strategies and set ups change in season. You could say good teams don't change - that would work for your point Notable game style changes Hawthorn rounds 1 - 7 v Hawks onwards The men in defence strategies etc etc

Tom McDonald?
I said the exact same thing today at the game - Keep Tom away from the D50

Our Failure to Crush Teams
I don't see this as an issue. The competition is the most even it's been in a long time. There are still floggings but not as many in recent times. We need to establish ourselves as a consistently good team. Which we havent done. Until that hapoens i don't expect us to [censored] many sides. Small steps

Glaring weakness in defence
You can't throw a blanket of statistics over you're arguement. How about the final qtr on Saturday? I havent looked at the stats but from my eye i reckon we lost clearances and got beaten up around the ball. So your point is moot if im right, stats are general you need to be specific. You cant point at a trend for the yr and apply it to one game because it may not actually refect what happened. Goody and other media analysts have discussed this year how we play. If you can't discuss how the team plays and how that affects you're arguement it's a waste of time. Its very easy to say we were out marked and exposed on Saturday... and we were , you're 100% spot on. What ppl are trying to say is you can be a simpleton and focus on one area of the game or discuss the whloe situation not just the end result. For example did our turnovers creat their scoring opportunities or was it stoppages it was it just ben brown? It's really up to u. Maybe you just have no undestanding and thats ok too

Glaring weakness in defence
Like a few have said.... you can't blame 6 players for defence now days. It's too simplistic of a discussion. The defenders and our game plan rely on pressure up field and all over the ground to stop defensive enteries/scores. Without pressure up feild they get exposed, which is what i think the op is pointing out. Im not trying to argue with u bb. Just pointing out it depends exactly what the op is saying depends on the response. If u try to understand the press and how goody wants us to play it, its not a back 6 issue per say. It's an 18 man team defence issue not just the back 6. But also i agree there is an issue with the back 6 size and experience wise. Im not saying the op is wrong My overall point is you can be critical but its harsh just to focus on the back 6. Especially considering how we play... defensive stats imo are misleading when analysising them individualy as it's a Team Defense not a traditional back 6 defence. I dont even think goody wants to stop specific players ie brown. He wants pressure to create turnovers and scoring opportunities. Goody knows teams will score and i don't think it's about stopping them. Its about us creating opportunity. Also if we lose clearences etc our game plan starts to get exposed which goes in line with ehat the op is saying but again it's a slightly different discussion and not a back 6 issue
-
Glaring weakness in defence
Just for my own clarity... are you saying the back 6 are costing us games or it'sjust a weakness? Because i think both questions have 2 slightly different answers

Glaring weakness in defence
I reckon it is in modern day footy..... ManDee Off the top of my head....Jordy lewis and was it Bernie in the 3rd coming out of defence and turning it over were coach killers.... So many poor decisions. Not coach or game plan related errors. As jnrmac has rightly pointed out there is a clear deficiency in defenve but on Saturday also there were a lot of self inflicted wounds. But it is fair to say brown was the difference. I also think our current gsmeplan isn't to stop every entry or shutdown the opposition key forwards. Like North Melbourne or Sydney. (It might be personal related i dont know the coaches thoughts/plan. Am only guessing) I think our game plan is to win contested possession and create pressure up field to create turnovers. We rely on getting first hands on the footy to win games. North tought us a lesson there in that last qtr. Not saying this is right or wrong but ii rekon stooping 1 player seems opposite to our current plan

Glaring weakness in defence
Frawley might be on the outer at the hawks (unconfirmed) We would look at bringing him back since the hawks will be after picks?

General rules for posting trades on Footy Forums 1. Find uncontracted player 2. Is there a perceived need for player 3. Are they related to a current player 4. Post I have no idea if the Dees are interested in Towballs brother but it fits the criteria
