Along with Ron Barassi and Neale Daniher I believe it is incredibly important that we allow Nathan Jones to raise the Demons new Premiership flag for 2021 at our first home game at the MCG in Season 2022. It would definitely be fitting to see him involved. Nathan Jones is a champion and a loyal servant of the club that needs to be sent off in the best way possible as a sign of respect for all he has done for the Melbourne Football Club. A shining light during our darkest days. You were a loyal Melbourne player through and through! I am glad you got to play over 300 games for the Demons. We will all miss you Chunk! 😪

I couldn't stop smiling watching that video. Had a bit of a tear in my eye at the end when you see Simon Goodwin and Max Gawn hold up the Premiership cup! Just a warm and wonderful feeling knowing that we are finally Premiers in 2021. It has certainly been a long time between drinks since 1964. I am quietly confident the Demons can win more Premierships in the near future. But this time at our ancestral home the MCG!

I love his passion for the Demons and his astute understanding of the game. Steve "Frothies" May has also become one of my favourite Melbourne players. Hope he recovers well from his torn hamstring and gets plenty of rest before heading back for Pre-Season training.

I am definitely interested in seeing what Jason Taylor has planned for pick #17 in the 2021 AFL National Draft. I was pleasantly surprised that we were able to sneak into round 1 again. The Demons definitely have a very clever strategy of "back pay" for trading to get higher draft picks. As for my possible draftees. It all depends upon if we go for best available or we go for a specific need. Steven May has that 6cm tear in his hamstring he needs to recuperate from. Hopefully, he will take it easy and let it fully heal before getting back into full training in the Pre-Season.

I would be curious to know Brock McLean's thoughts on the Demons winning the 2021 Premiership. I suspect still a lot of bad blood there..... Mark "Jacko" Jackson's would be quite bemusing to know about too. He was definitely popular with Demons fans in the early 1980s apparently, but whether or not he cares about us anymore I would be surprised. Actually the two people I would really like to hear their thoughts on about the Demons winning the 2021 flag would be David Neitz and David Schwarz. I bet they had tears of joys in their eyes just like the rest of us! The former Demons coach John "Swooper" Northey would be over the moon too! Glad he is still around!

We definitely had some massive stuff ups with drafting in the past. I blame the following... 1) Poor Culture 2) Poor Development 3) Poor Recruiting Luckily we were able to fix the rot with Peter Jackson, Paul Roos and many others. Anyway, it doesn't matter now. Time to move on! We are 2021 Premiers!

The fact that the Melbourne Football Club has survived all these years since our previous last Premiership in 1964 is a miracle in many ways. We nearly got merged with Fitzroy, North Melbourne, Richmond and most notably Hawthorn. My first AFL game I ever went to was the "merger game" in round 22 against Hawthorn in 1996 when we lost by 1 point. What an amazing game that was. I remember being so frustrated with Paul Salmon the (former Essendon) Hawthorn ruckman beating Jimmy Stynes in the ruck and constantly hitting the ball over the boundary line when we had a genuine opportunity to win the game in the last few minutes. It was definitely an emotion charged game with Hawthorn supporters abusing and waving their jumpers after the game in front of Melbourne supporters who were trying to leave. I also remember heaps of Melbourne supporters holding those "no merger" signs at the game. It could of been the first and last game I had ever seen my beloved Melbourne Demons play. Fortunately the merger never happened. But even then I felt the Melbourne Football Club had an aura of misfortune, tragedy and disappointment hanging over it. Was this Norm Smith's curse? Maybe? It doesn't matter now, as the curse has been finally lifted. We are back where we belong as Premiers. But this was a massive change to the regular experiences of frustration and disappointment. My hat goes off to the entire Melbourne Football Club for turning things around. It should also be noted that we nearly went bankrupt if it wasn't for Jimmy Stynes' "Debt Demolition" campaign and assistance from the AFL. There were times during those dark days when I thought we would fold or be relocated. The huge and embarrassing losses took their toll on all of us. From 1964 until 2021 we actually "won" 7 wooden spoons, plus there were all the times we finished in the bottom 3 on the ladder. We definitely experienced 57 years of pain and it was a rough journey along the way to finally be holding up a brand new Premiership cup in 2021. Everyone at the Melbourne Football Club needs to be thanked sincerely for their contributions this season in 2021. Reflecting on our recent Premiership triumph in 2021 and breaking our 57 year drought I thought it was important to think about those who missed out due to passing away... First and foremost would be the following: Jimmy Stynes Robbie Flower Troy Broadbridge Dean Bailey Colin Sylvia Sean Wight There are probably lots of others who should be added to this list. Not just former players, but also former MFC administrators, trainers, coaching staff etc. Then there would be family, friends and loved ones. I ask people to contribute to this thread mentioning those who loved the Melbourne Football Club but sadly missed out on seeing our 57 year Premiership drought end because they have passed away. May all those people who were "Melbourne through and through" never be forgotten...

Great to see. I am sure he will have an extra break during Christmas too. I think Christian Petracca has now had a taste of success and wants more (Premierships)! Hopefully, many of the rest of the Demons players have the same attitude so that when they return to Pre-Season training they are fit and ready to go from the start. I saw on social media that Luke Jackson has also been training during the off season too which is wonderful to see! The impression I get is that the Melbourne players loved being part of Premiership success and now have a real hunger for more of it. As Paul Roos once said, you need to want to be great. It doesn't just happen for you. Anyway, we shall look forward to what happens next year in Season 2022 for the Demons!

Just putting a suggestion out there. I think it would be great to see a movie or a documentary about the Melbourne Football Club and how we became Premiers this year in 2021 ending our 57 year Premiership drought. Obviously, I am very biased but I think it would make a fantastic movie or documentary. It could go from 1964 until 2021 looking at all the heartache and pain we have been through. The triumph of 1964, the loss of Ron Barassi to Carlton shortly afterwards, the shock sacking of Norm Smith, the wilderness years of the 1970s, losing a game against Fitzroy but 190 points, big Carl Ditterich who liked to belt blokes, Brent "Tiger" Crosswell who only brought a towel with him to training, the shining light of Robbie Flower, the prodigal son Ron Barassi returning in 1981 as coach. Mark "Whacko Jacko" Jackson and his crazy antics on the football field. The Brownlow medalists in the 1980s of Brian Wilson and Peter Moore. The defection of Gerard Healy to Sydney for the big bucks. The amazing year of 1987 trying to help Robbie Flower to make the finals. The heartache of Jimmy Stynes running through the mark in the Preliminary Final only for Gary Buckenara to kick a goal for the Hawks to get them over the line and into the Grand Final. The year 1988 with our humiliating loss to the Hawks in the Grand Final. The early 1990s with Jimmy Stynes winning the Brownlow and the amazing antics of Allen Jakovich. The 1994 finals series under Neil Balme and the wonderful feats of Garry Lyon kicking 10 goals and David Schwarz becoming a super star. The almost merger with Hawthorn in 1996 and the dodgey proxy votes to say we voted "for" the merger. The multi-millionaire saviour in Joe Gutnick. Neil Balmes sacking and the embarrassing wooden spoon in 1997. The recruitment of young star ruckman Jeff White from Fremantle and the appointment of Neale Daniher. The 1998 final series and the emergence of stars like David Neitz, Adem Yze and Jeff Farmer. The salary cap and draft penalties in 1999. The remarkable bounce back to make the Grand Final in 2000 only to be physically beaten up and crushed by Essendon. Shane Woewodin's surprise Brownlow medal in 2000. The yo-yo years of finals under Neale Daniher. The tragic loss of Melbourne player Troy Broadbridge in the Boxing Day Tsunami. The close but just not good enough finals series of 2004, 2005 and 2006. The resignation of Neale Daniher in 2007 and the appointment of Dean Bailey. The years of frustration and embarrassment from 2008 until 2013. The poor treatment of our veteran players like James McDonald, Cameron Bruce, Brad Green and others in favour of a flawed youth policy. Captaincy for the two Jacks in Grimes and Trengove which in someways sadly hindered their careers with far too much pressure. The alleged "tanking" saga with former player Brock McLean spilling his guts against us and sanctions from the AFL. The huge amount of debt the Melbourne Football Club was in and Jimmy Stynes taking over as President. The "Debt Demolition" campaign that helped save our club from financial ruin. The freakishly talented Liam Jurrah who's career was like a comet burning brightly but far too quickly. The horrific "186 game" in Geelong. The Mark Neeld era. The regular thumpings and overall embarrassment for the club, its players and its long-suffering supporters. The turnaround with the appointment of Peter Jackson as CEO. The chase to sign up Paul Roos as coach. The development years from 2014 until 2016 trying to fix our playing list and our club culture. The shining light which was Nathan Jones. The Simon Goodwin apprenticeship. The untimely deaths of Robbie Flower, Jimmy Stynes, Sean Wight, Dean Bailey and Colin Sylvia. The wonderful 2018 finals series. The emergence of Clayton Oliver, Christian Petracca, Jack Viney and other young star players. The unique larrikin and character who got caught smoking on the way to training once and is our superstar Captain Max Gawn who Jimmy Stynes took an interest in. The disappointment of 2019 and the finishing 9th twice in 2017 and 2020. The drought breaking year of 2021! You gotta admit it is definitely a movie or at least a documentary with that story line right there! With movies like "The Club" and documentaries like "Year of the Dogs" I think it is a worthwhile proposition for someone considering making a movie or a documentary about the Melbourne Football Club too. It would be a movie or a documentary 57 years in the making!

Looking forward to seeing him play a few senior games for the Demons next year in 2022. Due to his versatility he can still impact games as a ruckman, defender or a forward. Majak Daw is the ideal utility player.

AFL men's Premiership tick! 😁 Although we need to win another one at the MCG too! I also think we are a very good chance of winning an AFLW Premiership having recruited Tayla Harris to the Demons. I think the women will be inspired to want to win a Flag now that the men have. However, the main priority needs to get this Home Base for the Melbourne Football Club built on top of Car Park F in the Olympic Park precinct next to Gosch's Paddock. Once, we have our Home Base built for the Melbourne Football Club I will be a lot more confident about the future.

The humble part of me thinks just 1 more Premiership at the MCG would be nice. Just so I can experience a Premiership at the MCG with my Dad. The greedy part of me think we need at least 5 more Premierships for the 5 decades that we missed out! Let's over take Carlton and Essendon with their 16 Premierships! Realistically, with the youth and talent in our team another 2 or 3 Premierships are possible. We will have to wait and see how hungry the Demons players are for more success I guess?

I am happiest for those who remember 1964 and have waited these 57 long years! I only have experienced 40 of those years and that was long enough! I do have a tinge of sadness though. Especially for those who have passed away and never got to see our drought breaking Premiership triumph in 2021. I am not just talking about Jimmy Stynes, Robbie Flower, Dean Bailey, Colin Sylvia, Troy Broadbridge and others heavily involved with the Melbourne Football Club. I am talking about those loyal Melbourne members and supporters who used to show up to every game barracking for the Demons and never got to experience the joy and relief that we are fortunate enough to now feel. Unfortunately, that is part of life and when you have a Premiership drought that went from 1964 until 2021 you can expect to lose people along the way. The Sydney (South Melbourne) Swans with a 72 year drought, the Western (Footscray) Bulldogs with a 62 year drought and the Richmond Tigers with a 37 year drought all were ecstatic and relieved when they finally broke their Premiership droughts. We have now been lucky enough to experience the same. Sadly for the Fitzroy Lions they never really got to properly break their drought having to merge with the Brisbane Bears at the end of 1996. However, you could say that many Fitzroy supporters celebrated the Brisbane Lions 2001 Premiership as their own, coincidentally ending their own 57 year drought, which last saw Fitzroy win the Flag in 1944. It is now only the St. Kilda Saints with their current drought of 55 years which hasn't seen them hold up the Premiership cup since 1966. Whether or not they end their drought too remains to be seen. They have definitely had their chances in 1971, 1997, 2009 and 2010 (twice). Nevertheless, my focus is on my beloved Demons and I hope that we can have another Premiership win, this time at the MCG, in the near future. That way I can celebrate it with my Dad and many other loyal Melbourne members and supporters who want to actually be there at our home ground the MCG and experience it properly. I think I will definitely cry tears of joy more if it happens at the MCG and I am there watching it. Anyway, fingers crossed that we finally get to see another Demons Flag very soon! Lastly, I want to say that I hope that the Melbourne Football Club NEVER experiences such a severe Premiership drought as long as 57 years ever again! It is time for some sustained success!

I thought I would burst into tears when the final siren went...but I didn't due to a 74 point belting! I had a few tears when Simon Goodwin and Max Gawn held up the Premiership Cup. The most I cried was when I called my Dad on the phone and said we would take a photo of us both holding the 2021 Premiership Cup together once it gets back to Melbourne.

I think the Melbourne Demons AFLW side is a good chance of winning the Premiership this coming season. Tayla Harris is a fantastic recruit for us to get! I genuinely hope they can be inspired by the men's AFL side! However, I do feel that AFLW is a bit of a novelty for the majority of Australians. Just like women's cricket. Whether those attitudes change remains to be seen.

The significance of the Melbourne Demons winning the 2021 Premiership has not been lost on me. The Demons were hopeless for many years. We "won" 7 wooden spoons since 1964. We nearly got merged with Hawthorn, Fitzroy, North Melbourne and Richmond. We nearly went bankrupt if it wasn't for Jimmy Stynes' "Debt Demolition" campaign. The fact that we survived 57 years of pain is absolutely remarkable. I admit I did shed a few tears of joy on Saturday evening. But not as many as I expected due to our utter thrashing of the Bulldogs. Our club has seen so much tragedy. The loss of Robbie Flower, Jimmy Stynes, Sean Wight and Dean Bailey to cancer. Troy Broadbridge in the Boxing Day Tsunami. Colin Sylvia in a car accident. Then you have Neale Daniher's struggle against MND. Then you have Norm Smith's curse which has finally been lifted! The 2021 Premiership means so much to so many Melbourne people. I think I will probably cry more if we are lucky enough to win the Premiership again but this time at our ancestral home the MCG. Anyway, we shall wait and see for season 2022 and beyond. The best thing about winning the flag in 2021 is now knowing that the Melbourne Football Club now has a bright future. GO DEMONS!!!

One side of me thinks we need to win 5 more Premierships for the 5 decades of missing out. The other side says, just be humble and take it one season at a time. In all honesty I am not greedy, but another Premiership at the MCG would be nice. Just so I can be there with my Dad and enjoy it properly. However, if I was Simon Goodwin I would be showing the Demons players footage and documentaries about NBA basketball dynasties such as the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls. That would definitely inspire Christian Petracca and the other NBA lovers on our team.

I cannot sing Jason Taylor's praises high enough. He has been a wonderful recruiter for us! Let's hope we can get a few gems in this year's AFL draft too!

Yes, agreed. Ben King should definitely be a target for us. It just depends if he wants to play with his twin brother Max at St. Kilda.

I am going to say anything over 65,000+ will be wonderful. We had over 52,000 members this year. So an increase of over 10,000 would be great to see. If we get 70,000+ members then that will be HUGE!!! We won't be a small club anymore with those numbers. Remember that you need sustained success with multiple Premierships to expect to see genuine growth of members. We have missed out on generations of Melbourne supporters after 57 years of mediocrity. However, there will be ALOT of lapsed Demons supporters wanting to be members in 2022 though! Seeing Melbourne hopefully win a Premiership on the MCG will be a massive draw card for people!
