Farewell Jesse Hogan
I if Hogan goes as a RFA in a few years and we are on par with this year, then we get about pick 16-20 as compo, but an additional years service. If we trade him out this year, we can do better than that (1 or more top 10 picks?). I suggest we were into May as a free agent option, but GCS see the benefit in the trade 1 year early. GCS could get better compo if they see themselves being a basket case again next year. it means clubs have to demand the contracts are longer term from this point, or decide if 12 months service is worth the drop in value at the trade table. Players have to make this call, then the clubs can act in their best interests. over to you, Jesse. Either way, sign or go, next move is yours. The sooner the better, BTW.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BRAYDON PREUSS
Prius on Max’s training regime. Fit, big and strong. Would be a great option to ruck/play a kick behind the ball, or as the monster forward. If he commits to work like a beast, he will definitely improve our team.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
I know, trying to fill the space to page 200 and the ‘moment of truth’... the correct answer, if you were playing along at home, is “no matter how hard you try you end up with cockburn”. Other entries still welcome!

Farewell Jesse Hogan
Riddle me this: why is lying naked in the sun like playing for Freo?

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
When does he have to announce (or tell GC)? First that he wants out, and second his preferred new home. I really don’t know if we want him, what it will cost. Suspect he won’t get to be captain any time soon....

Mid-season rookie draft
Agree. MAssive disruption. what if Casey have a star player that is helping them to be top of the table, and then they are ‘drafted’ by Fremantle? Poor fella has to give up the tools (or uni or whatever) and head over to a new system, new home etc. Won’t get a game for that year. maybe select them mid-year for delivery at the end of year? Mid-year just can’t work.

Delisting, Trade and FA discussion 2018
The way I see it, all of the delistings were unlikely to push for best 25. Retirements cost us a couple of handy players, who were at the back end of their careers and probably also not best 25. Turning over any number of these players (not likely to add value to potentially adding value) is definitely an upgrade. We then look at ‘departures’ - Hogan, Kent, VDB. I imagine they were not what we wanted to happen, and we are looking at 1 A grader, 1 valuable player and one good player (when fit) potentially exiting. 3 of our top 25 (12%) turnover of the core of the list. Not sure we will get May. KK and the Prius will be positive additions (compared to what they replace). If JH goes, we would need good value return to end up positive on this trade. Expect us to be into a few smokeys, and to end up with a seriously upgaded overall list.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
Reckon it comes down to one thing. The size of the contract. If he walked in to the shockers to check out the gym and the showers, I would be surprised. I think it’s to hear them spray warm yellow liquid down the back of his neck whilst waving wads of cash at him. If he feels warm and fuzzy and the bucks are big enough, he can avoid being mercenary by saying ‘go home factor’. as the shockers have no one else, they will probably throw a massive deal with long term legs at him. Think Buddy Franklin or bigger

Agreed. As they are moving him on, should get him for a late-ish pick and a bag of chips

Farewell Jesse Hogan
I get it, ET. However, if what we get generates enough improvement to give us a flag, then I really don’t mind. However, we won’t know for 12 months. We all have an expectation and want the club to match or better this. Hopefully the signalling of ‘most valuable ever’ gives us an idea of what the club thinks...

Instead of May, how about play Jesse back? ?

On points alone, 5 and 9 would get 1. 5,6 and Hunt would be overs by a big margin. Unless we needed the guy who would go at 1, 5 and 6 would be much better value

Farewell Jesse Hogan
You wonder about motivations, if all of this is true. Playing finals? Stay at Melbourne Play with your team mates? Stay at Melbourne Repay the faith, development and care offered during the last few horrible years? Stay at Melbourne. Go home (and spend half your time travelling interstate ) go to Freo Play under a coach that has never used key forwards well? Go to Freo Big Bucks? Probably either. i would be interested to know how well he gets on with his MFC team mates. in the end, my primary concern is that MFC uses any player movement to enhance its position. If it’s on, then let’s get a good deal and create a nucleus of players that want to be here, and want to win together.

Winning the Trade & Free Agency Period?
I think it would be a substantial improvement in the list compared to this season. With the outs (before rumour) of King,Vince, Flippa, Pedo, Bugg, Balic improvement is highly likely. If you add Kent and VDB, then it gets harder. If Hogan is on the move, then it becomes more challenging still. The ‘core’ of the team that played finals and did well is there. If we dont cover our weaknesses (Second ruck, outside run) and bolster key stocks (Midfield, goal sneak) it wont be a ‘win’ for mine. We were an injury to Max away from trouble, struggled to cover Lever and really had no answer to an underperforming Garlett. Cover these, improve the quality and let the media decide that others ‘won’ the off season. If we get better for immediate onfield effect (not drafting kids) then we have won as far as I am concerned.

Crickey, are we there yet? silence from all the sources that would matter. Will the Bluey cause player or club to reveal their hand?

Farewell Jesse Hogan
Agree. The price would have to be right for MFC to entertain it. If it happens, I want MFC to play super hard ball.

Farewell Dean Kent
He was clear it was for job security. Like we got Lewis by offering 3 when Hawks offered 1. Suspect about the same

Farewell Dean Kent
What?? SO how will they trade for Dean? A future pick? A player swap? There is quite a breeze of change on the list - Although apart from Dean and the retirements, all are VFL standard.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
Didn’t he speak to us, not the other way around? I like how the club doesnt leak. They plan and act. They leave all of us (and the media) to guess. It would not surprise me if we are not into May at all. I could see Collingwood needing to replace Dunn, especially if Moore is lured to Swans. Hold on tight - I think it is going to be very interesting.
