What are they saying at Moore Park
Many (many) moons ago, I lived in the harbour city. I would go to the SCG for demons games and go off my nut. No swans fan had a clue about the game, the rules or anything. They have had access to lots of talent and the cola to keep things nice. Their arrogance is galling. Going to revisit the SCG this week, will probably go off my nut and reckon most of the crowd will still know squat about the game.

NON-MFC: Rd 24 2023
This week’s round is a race to the bottom for a number of teams. We will know the landscape before our bounce. Want to death ride the shockers one last time and I hope we get up. bombers stung into action against pies who don’t care. Roos hawks and lions. Crows Port and demons. And in the august premiers special? The giants with Carlton getting a bag of injuries.

PODCAST: Rd 23 vs Hawthorn
Thought we got done early, but showed great maturity to adjust to all of the in-game efforts of the Hawks. Sydney will come at us hard, with a lot of emotion in the game for them. Goodwin talks of the finals as a ‘new season’ - will we use the Sydney game to run time into returning forwards or play ‘as is’ to win?

PREGAME: Rd 23 vs Hawthorn
I think they will switch and try to spread us and get chaotic entries. setup from the midfield and allow the move to the back flank then ‘bam’ no corridor or target wing or forward. Take Sicily out, don’t let the fridge magnet cause any bother and shut down jai newcomb. better in the middle - maybe grundy in ruck and max forward? (70/30). More kossie rotation through there with Trac forward more. jj out, Melk in, Spargo in. if we ain’t got this, we got nothing….

PREGAME: Rd 23 vs Hawthorn
Forward issues: bbb can only run in a straight line, and needs a clear runway to mark. TMac is underdone, cant turn or operate below his knees. jeffo is at least 1 maybe 2 preseasons away. petty and frittata are injured. need to get a bit funky from here to make it work. melk on Sicily, Trac and cosi and max to work together, Reg Grundy in the ruck

PODCAST: Rd 22 vs Carlton
Pressure and structure wins finals. It has been our ‘one wood’ now for the past few years, with the sugar rush of the pies approach built to counter it. Now we faced a team that out demoned the demons - their set-up defensively was brilliant, and their whole ground pressure was unbelievable. And we lost by a fingernail (real or imagined). I think we are set for September, with just 3 issues that’s stand out: Skills under pressure Grundy Forward line and delivery into it. Are these the panels biggest concerns, or do you have other big red flashing lights as we approach the big dance?

Has our form been overstated?
I think we have been under-rated by almost everyone. All the bluff and bluster about the ‘team of the week’ whilst we accrued wins. We have not been at our best, except for th kings birthday game, and some early shoot outs. Our best team has not been available, and with BBB. TMAC Petty, Oliver Fritter and even Max out for periods during the year. We have uncovered some great talent (JVR, McVee for example), and are still top 4. Our game plan is ‘built for finals’ - very much like the game last night. We lost ot by less than a kick, after giving up 3 goals at the start of the last and facing extreme pressure for much of the match. We saw that we were able to absorb that pressure and defend well, except for those small patches. We held the blues to 60 points, and in most cases that would get it done, except our forward 50 was a stinking pile of fecal matter. Don’t give up on us yet. We have to face two tricky games to finish - hawks are up and about to take scalps, and teh Swans may have a fair bit to play for. We need to do better - sure - but I dont think we are over rated.

Max in for a Scan
Apart from the continuous mugging by the blues players last night, he looked OK at the Casey game today, offering tips to Verall and Farris White at qtr time and in the rooms at half time.

No structure in front of the ball, no structure behind the ball, lack of contested ball wins everywhere…. Sheesh

POSTGAME: Rd 22 vs Carlton
Carlton set up really well in defence, and gave us a dose of our own medicine. We had so many poor kicks and fumbles - conditions? Pressure? Simply below par. We lost the territory battle for most of the night, and when we did have it in our half, had little structure in front of the ball. Umpiring was disastrous, but enough of that already. Good to get minutes into the ginger ninja, who seemed off point in the first half. Centre work was awful almost all night. hate to see them waltz forward time after time. Some big games today at Casey could see things become interesting at selection. Not a great game by the Dees, but we did hold them to 60 points. We lost that game in the first five minutes of the last quarter.

GAMEDAY: Rd 22 vs Carlton
I think we have set ourselves for this one. It is the start of our ‘23 tilt. Listening to Goodys presser, he sounds like he wants the finals like pressure to really get our campaign underway. Including the Ginger Ninja and Big Reg shows we are wanting to get things in order for the finals. Blues are up and about but are ripe for the taking tonight. We bring the heat and control the territory game and I think we win. If they go with us, 20 point win. If they fall away - 50 point win.

If we beat Carlton...

PODCAST: Rd 21 vs North Melbourne
62 point turn around was good, but we were shown up badly in the first quarter. i like that we can wrest momentum and control games. I see this as being a significant part of our skill set for 23 premiership run. Do you trust us to do this in big games now? Can we win from behind in the finals? Will we ever flip the switch and dominate 4 qtrs (we don’t seem to atm).

GAMEDAY: Rd 21 VS North Melbourne
The back end of this season has become incredibly interesting. results like the hawks and blues in the last few rounds make our run home a little harder than we perhaps might have thought - but that could be good for us. RIchmond fell in a heap on Friday Night, so that may happen to the other cellar dwellers we now come up against. It all comes down to what we do. Play our game and do the right things and we will build nicely into the finals. I hate playing in Hobart, so many [censored] memories from recent years, when we would drop games we should have won. Not today, I think we take them apart early and hold them off from there. 48 points to the good. Go dees.
