This ^^^We're showing signs of life in the midfield but its a long way off from being scarey. Totally agree RPFC...there are role players that can and will be pressed into fwd service. Others can be garnered later in drafts or brought in. The dont need be stars..just decent and able. The simple reality is if the midfield doesn't hold up then its defenders copping the game time, no need to worry about fwds abilities then. Actually. ..thats sounds awfully familiar....thats where weve come from. Only as the midfield becomes more capable does the ball go fwd. We can score when opportunity presents. The goal of this draft ought to be staring everyone in the face.

iys just a question . I wonder though how often you would as compared buy a lemon ? -
The gamut indeed possibly but it's purpose was simply to show there are not just more yhan one way to skin a cat. Some good forwards are indeed taken as draft picks but it's no guarantee. Some very good forwards can come from a number of sources. Indeed many positions on the paddock can be filled in a number of ways. Roos has been wary of placing too much faith in drafts. Im inclined to agree. So as such you want to be careful of putting too much hope into it

Yes we need forwards...but a draftee fwd wont impact for 2-3 years likely.. Other options can present or already exist in that time frame. -
you might want to back that up pre draft ? draft goes back to 81... there was a hiatus... 83 -85 just saying

yes...indeed but where my train of thought goes is as part of any risk minimising youd steer towards factors/elements/ 'knowns" that will hopefully provide a decent footballer. Whre , iimho you DONT go with early picks is to players where things are 'suss" . A classic recent case in point.. dare I say it Toumpas.. He had ability but big clouds re body being A1.. Why go there with early pick....its a crap shoot for sure then. Especially when better credentialed I.e able to walk run chew and kick footies all at same time were available. Here we have 'Weed" he might be a gem... he might be nobbled. Do you really play a trump against a low hand ? ( might need understanding of 500 or whist there lol ) 3 and 7 arent for dallying with -
Just for you Ben some handy names Decent forwards not taken in round 1 of a draft Richard Osborne Warren Tredrea a SA zone selection..would he have gone 1st round ? maybe...doubt it Dermott Brereton David Neitz Daniel Bradshaw Jack Riewoldt outside (the top 10 ) John Longmire Alastair Lynch Wayne Carey for a paltry $10000 transfer back in the day Fraser Gehrig Barry Hall pick 19...not first round eh Matthew Richardson yes father /son....but would he have gone first round ? So you agree its nature is speculative.. Id put it that taking two mids wouldnt be. And recruiters are paid to recruit...not gamble -
chances are he'll still grown a few more cm's...hes still young

Its a point I alluded to elsewhere DubDee..a lot of good forwards come from outside the top 10..in fact outside the 1st round. Thats not to say that doesnt occur only that its not the preserve of early picks to become effective kpp.. One might even suggest more failures than successes. Often KPP fwds ( backs also ) tend to be taller types with something a bit better than a coathanger body. Exceptions to rule ..Hogan etc.. rare !! These types seem to go in one a on few directions. 1) they get well and truly found out at senior level and their careers stall. 2) takes years (4-5 ) for them to grown into their height and become effective footy players at the elite level . Often injuries plague them as their bodies sort themselves out or 3) occasionally seem to slip into decent form inside 18 months there is a sort of 4th group.. They turn into halfway decent players, nothing amazing but workmanlike ..often journeymen style...club to club to club The fifth type is of course Jesse Hogan...rare as hens teeth spend your picks wisely folks
-
Hogan is not the entitre fwd structure. So many arguments make it seem so. Midfielders , pesky little devils , are somewhat notorious for kicking a goal or two. Midfielders can link to other players in the fwd arc if there's tuition to do so and good position by any other player forward. Who's to say club doesn't already have someone(s) in mind already on list or otherwise to groom. Into fwd support role or an additional kpp fwd ? For years weve taken some odd picks and now we're 'that' close to actually aspiring to midfield that competes and has depth and now some seem to want to revert to old thinking. Ah well we'll know soon enough

Theres a difference between understanding what a talent existed and what it might be. That's speculation. A problem for talls is often their early dominance in kiddie ball doesnt always continue as the opposition and such are more his size as they progress into adult footy. I have no doubt hes a talent Id be spending #3 on something a little more definite, same really for 7. But thats me. Will be interesting to see how the club uses these early selections. For a change our future doesnt DEPEND on them. It should help of course but no need to pin every hope on these kids. TGFT -

Fair comment. Makes picking him very early incredibly speculative.. -
reckon he might have some decent competition for that actually
-
Dont think so.. She could only write one if she had info via the AFL.. The AFL would have its knuckles wrapt if that were the case
-
I quite like McKay... the other two are a bit over hyped still prefer two mids though
-
too busy organising contingency plans I suspect

bit like do we get a cart or the horses.

Interesting how highly Weideman is rated ...seems to all be based on past glories. Other players have more relevant runs on the board in recent times which I would have thought carried more weight. I wouldnt put this guy top 10 let alone waste pick 3 on him each to own I suppose -
pretty well sums it up for mine Whilst the fwd setup can of course be bolstered...and will need to be we have shown that if we can get it into the 50 we can score... Our biggest let down in games is the fwd 50 entries... / This needs to be vastly improved and the only way you will do that is to better the midfield. If the best two players available at 3 and 7 are midfielders I think we'd be silly not to take them
