I had been encouraged earlier in the year watching our preseason hitouts to note we had a few more strings to our bow. The game was being tweaked, options trialled and the predictability turfed. We looked ok...bit rusty.. but we looked far more dangerous imo. I lamented that come the season proper it had reverted to same same.....same old us. The verve , flair and unpredictability was missing. It all came back yesterday. Hope it sticks around. This is a far far better rendition of the Dees. Still some work to do, especially the sharp end. Scoreline should have read 18:8 Get that sorted and September beckons. Well done Dees

I want to flip that script a bit and suggest in a manner of speaking I dont mind if we bring that kind of intensity, focus and commitment. In many respects we should every game but thats not a reality. Today , it's a must. This is not a Grand Final but it IS Grand-Final like. The G, on a day no other game is played. Where so much happens in the build up to that first bounce. The total focus of the footy world is on you. The importance of other factors and emotional foundations..A massive crowd. Yes, it's very Grand Final like in many aspects.. It of course, not the BIG Dance...but this isn't the local hop either. I really don't mind if the players have psyched themselves up a bit. They'll need to . This will be a ding dong battle of bitter rivals of a very long standing. I want the likes of Kozzie, Fritta,Viney, Max and Trac to have a DAY OUT !! I really don't mind if the next game is a bit dull, a bit matter of fact..etc. Today I want the team to understand this is not so much a Grand Final as it is a Grand Final Practice. Everythig that is today goes up a noths come the Truly Big Day but this is as close to it as you get. They need to be able to soak it all up and produce a complete team effort topped off with some really handy 'best games for a while" type efforts. I really don't mind if Brodie does have a game that's to remind his old team-mates that they are foes now.....and his old club.."How DARE you !!" And I rally don't mind if the Dees come with some serious nigle and thump this lot and not just on the scoreboard. Lets show Bruzzy what brusing is really about. I always thought this would be a game around two specifics... respective defences... and 4 qtrs of run and pressure. If we come to play ( seriously) we should have the tank for 4 qtrs. Collingwood 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 maybe not so much. If we can be a least evens at 3/4 time i suspect those collywobbly legs will get very heavy ...for some. Interesting game ahead. Go Dees

We didnt struggle... what bloody game were you watching ?? We struggled to play coherent footy.. we struggled to string 2 recognisable passages of footy together... fmd...it was hideous to watch. We won mainly because Carlton are rubbish... lets not sugar coat our ability, our game, we won by less than 3 straight kicks. We'll need to bring a much better game come Monday Go Dees

I only met the bloke once.. was with brother in law and he had got us decent tix in the AFL section ( he's an ex player...just not the Dees).. i digress. Was a Melb v Carlton game.. maybe 5/6 years ago. We were just watching the game when B-I-L nudges me.. hey, there's ol' Balls.. I'll introduce you. So we ambled over and exchanged "pleasantries".. I could tell he felt a bit "Johnny on the spot".. as i turned to leave... I extended my hand and as we shook I offered one last salution... with a bit of a winky-nod I simply said.. "thankyou".. took him a few seconds... and returned a wry smile. Oh..we smacked the Blues too.. twas a good day

Ditterich was a hard footy player.. the idea of a backward step was either impossible or never considered. I mainly watched him in the red and blue.. I find it hard to categorise him as a thug.. an Equaliser most certainly...and i can only imagine his craft in the ruck was such it was never mistaken for an invite to afternoon tea. Footy can be hard without being nasty.. Ill give big Carl a nod as hard, not nasty.
