What they are saying at Princes Park
beelzebub replied to Bitter but optimistic's topic in Melbourne Demons
I have no interest in fairness to the Scum. None. Their inference was "panic" We've actually been SUPER cautious. -
Interesting observations ( thanks re info...t.i.r. etc ) Yeah i think ...and it may well just be me.... this year was never going to be, nor intended, as the slam dunk of affairs re Grundy. I suspect next year.....another preseason.. more coaching... might be very illuminating. Meanwhile...back to this game. A lot of Carltons momentum...over season ( of late ) and in-game , has come from them getting some rhythm into their game. That also worked in their earlier outting against us....'til we changed the music. Took us a little while ( often does and that irks me ) but once their dance was upended they "worry" the ball.. They aren't overly superb at second effort rebound entries... they tend to cough it up. Once this starts happening a few times their patterns fall apart. Our game is built upin fwd 50 contesting. Theirs is about "process" to goal. Interupt that.. Carlton is on toast.

The No Clues Blues Bless their little hearts eh..... -
I would have thought this was the idea all along... obviously not...as here we are. Quite possibly the idea of Grundy doing a mini apprenticeship was to become a bit more savvy with "positioning".. now for mine Brodie is quite a good reader if the ball...that tends to be a strength of many rucks. This is his "force". He ought use it to either offer an alternative option.. so not crowd the pack and break from his direct opponent...or use that tie to draw that defender out. Clever ball play doesn't actually mean YOU have the ball... it's about space ( suddenly mind flashed back over 50 years lol ...some might get it) ... Clever ball play doesn't mean you're going for the ball ( directly ) Id like to see Brodie linger around the square. You'd like to think Milky.. Roo and Grundy could provide quite interesting options. Divide and conquer....keep out of each others way... and with Kozzie Chandler.. Nibbler and the like waiting to pounce we ought to have the better of them (Carlton ) Our defence just needs to spin repeat the last meeting with them. I dont underestimate Carlton.. mor do i over rate them. They go better against teams that are well... simply not us. Dees by 5 goals

If i remember the prior Blues game ..imho.. where they came unstuck was they were hampered once the got past the centre. Their 'next' kick invariably 'dried up' as all targets were covered.. this caused hesitation...and as we all know ....he who hesitates is lost... 😀

Sounds ok to me

I reckon Caulfield is a far more accessible location than Port. Poll players... think theyd prefer a geo central type locale

If we finish 4th... and Filth 1st.. We have a HOME final ( effectively ). I reckon we would get them....again. Personally...i want THAT game... straight into prelim... another Home game.( with a week to recharge Id like to see us hone our fwd game....then hit the gas a tad... against sqawkers... notch up against Bloods... Full throttle against Pies Who knows....
-
Do we NEED to finish 2nd ?? There's no accolade. You DO get a home final..... but at the cost of going hell for leather to get there.. Whilst not often exhibiting tempo during a game perhaps we are with the season itself. Its a marathon... you have to pick when.to GO.. Its interesting.. id be saving a little in the tank for week 1 Sept. We were gassed by then last year....msybe another thing we've learnt.... we do seem very keen about "learnings" ..

This town ;) but there ARE two others 😉

I have a peculiar feeling we're setting ourselves for the 1st QF....and against the Pies.... that i think is our best crack at the Flag.. In that view we might be 'trialling' a few more modified line ups if for no other reason than the observe the checks and balances of the group. The finals campaign as we all observe is a different kettle of fish. If all goes well for us it might be but 3 games. But we need contingency through all of that. There may occur the necessity for a bit of plug and play if injury surfaces. Tomorrow's game is an excellent opportunity for refining the optimum mix whilst maintaining fitness through the list. Those that trot out will be expected to.do the job on Norf...to do the things they've trained and to do them better and better with each outting. I always seem to have my stomach in knots with Joel playing a full game but his efforts recently have been stalwart. Can.he apply same for 4/4 atm ? That's a q the fd are im sure asking and for Smith to answer. Again this game a good one for that to be tested. Dusty comes in and out of games now. His best is brilliant. It will test anyone. I think Riv is growing in leaps and bounds...but he'll still be handed lessons... he's still young ( really ) Woey... this season.is a bit of a blooding. We need to temper expectations.... he might or not get many more munutes this year but another full preseason.. will help immensely. He's on his way. Already a handy backup. Milky... love his footy.. This end of the season and finals is made for him and he for them. Hibbo.. has qualities a few others dont. He'll be played when suits. Brodie... no idea really. I can only guess the real plan for him over this and coming years is not quite what we thought...though i sense some revision by the club ( and him ) has occurred. Time will tell... Have a sneaky he might be cleverly instrumental during finals. Think Brown is now Back up Benny. Not to be discounted as we need players who CAN step in. Harmes, Spargo, Jordan are role players...not all roles every week. ....and with Clarry coming back ( some point....one day ) ...well theres only so many deckchairs you can shuffle. Will watch the game with much interest...more about the HOW we go about it than the scoreboard. Go Dees

Bound to be 4 to 5 goals better than typical durge. -
Agree with this.. Just wondering how much of a spanner got thrown in ....with Petty throwing a party ?? I sense still a bit more "movement" of magnets....but just finessing ..not wholesale shuffles...jmo. Interesting
