Bruce is contracted til end of next year...at that time I suspect he may retire of own volition ( if the right words are whispered ) Til then I expect him to play albeitly on merit and as required
-
Very well put and totally lost on so many. This is the crux of the whole matter.
-
Put succintly.. There was a time you would have penned in Bruces name on any starting 18.. This must soon end and he be there purely on merit or what he can do to help an up and comer. He was a Brownlow fav one year til he hit a bus called Guerra. Never the same since Times 'a changing !!
-
Pello..I neither like nor dislike Bruce as an individual..its matters not. I only care for what he can bring to the equation on game day..that, and that alone If he ( CB ) could magically overnight eradicate his poor disposal from his game he would be invaluable..this being in relation to all else that he does do rather well. But strangely enough this is a game who's primary judgement is of a result. i.e win or lose. Many of us also apreciate a good contest and displays of fine skill. Much of all the good work Bruce does is simply brought rapidly unstuck by his poor disposal... he simply manages to often make a Pig's ear out of a Silk purse !!
-
a-sorry this year is no different at all in that respect..its just a fact..like it or not.. Call it bashing ..call it commentary call it what you like.. but poor disposal is simply POOR DISPOSAL !! b-If you understand it, then you'll also see why he isnt an auto selection ( VC or otherwise ) The whole point aout being near a window say 2011/2012 etc is as a result of players getting game time NOW, not five mins before we want to have a serious go at a premiership. ALL these things start now and that includes the changing of the guard. The higher cost is to do nothing.. all on the back that he was OK once !! etc
-
No ..he's just being discussed. If much of what is said seems negative..then consider the suject andf not the ajudicators !! rather damning for all I would have thought !! Senior player=ought to know what he's supposed to do with it y now...then yes !! Spot poll...who would want to be on the end of either his handballing or passing ?? dont be shy now.. Dont give a crap about stats as they dont encapsulate the nuances of play... Many of us simply use our eyes. Winning it is all very well... disposal is what its really about otherwise no point having/getting it

The following are out of contract come end of this season : Daniel Bell - October 2009 Kyle Cheney - October 2009 Aaron Davey - October 2009 Jack Grimes - October 2009 Mark Jamar - October 2009 Addam Maric - October 2009 James McDonald - October 2009 Brock McLean - October 2009 Tom McNamara - October 2009 John Meesen - October 2009 Brad Miller - October 2009 Cale Morton - October 2009 Russell Robertson - October 2009 Colin Sylvia - October 2009 Matthew Whelan - October 2009 three ought not be too hard

I could be seriously tempted to ring in Bail ( who has speed ) for Rivers who's getting killed in lead ups. Its a big ground Subi !!
-
Bruce is on the books til the end of next year. . Depending on how some others come on and who we get in the draft then Cameron might have to seriously argue his case for another go around.
-
He's ahead of Dunn..a keeper ?? time will tell !!!
-
...... ah yes...but do we WANT to ? lets come home with a slightly wet sail.. Too early..if you twig wonder if a few changes might be required for this week ..lol edit P.S. I think we'd struggle over there anyways, after losing to the Dockers Worsfold will be seeking retribution especially in front of a home crowd
-
I think he knows exactly where those sticks are Already the brilliance showing through Some current Melbourne players ( enuff said..we know 'em ) cant hit the side of a barn..this kid threads the eye of a needle..wrong sided to boot!! Something to get quietly excited about I think
-
Bailey doesnt ( so it seems ) always play people where they have been supposedly slotted for. In that light happy for Cheney and McNamara in. Sorry Wheels you just arent our future and these kids are. Dunn and Bate need to find their "footy selves" again !!
-
might be a fairly accurate appraisal
-
Maurie..I was actually leaning more towards the idea of some older fellows giving up a seat ..if you get my drift !!
-
The biggest prolem ( for mine ) with Dunn is that a good forward ( indeed any possie really ) can make some space for themselves. Dare I say is one certain Travis Johnstone was mecurial at it often, Davey can do it. Maric ,even now does sometimes. Dunn just gets dacked far too often. He needs to elevate his awareness..or the clock starts ticking
-
Cameron celebrates his 30th this year...not somehting he'll want to shout about amongst a team of kids looking for a step up !! Whether ye are afore him or agin him, Bruce's halycon days are behind him. Sooner or later the Coach will opt for someone who can actually kick and handball to advantage more times than not. Bruce's days are indeed numbered..just what that number is is unclear.

Well fellow Demons it seems to me that the timing is aout right to start the process of making thoase hard decisions about who ( long term ) is likely to be a contributor to our efforts in the next couple of years and who may have seeen their best games already played. If we are to get serious about getting miles into legs and creating a cohesive unit for a tilt then some players ( indeed some follower's favourites ) will have to be put aside to allow the emerging players to get exposure. There are some who's presence on the filed can provide real time mentorship and there are those whose selection simply prohibits the elevation of youth. Some players are finding it hard to come to terms with the AFL level yet glisten in the VFL. Some older ( and indeed some younger players but on the pripheral ) may never reak into the seniors for want of opportunity. There are still quite a few of the recent drafts yet to get any meanigful ( if any ) game time. Yes we want to remain competitive, but surely we are strving for long term relevance. Iwould like to see the start of more of the kids eing rotated through the list. Might put a little more heat on some others too to remind them to earn their spots.I dont for one moment suggest handing out jumpers willy-nilly like lollies but where a kid is putting up his hand with efforts then why not see what they can do for a few weeks at a time. Come years end we will then know far more aout our list , what we need and who unfortunately ( for them ) we dont. For those that are destined to make it they need to be exposed at the highest level noty only for the coaches etc to see what they have and how they are coming along but also for the players to undetand exactly what is required to make it at AFL level Id like to see McNamara, Grimes and Cheney get some decent minutes. Would have liked to have seen Strauss..alas !!.. definitley want to see watts in red and blue half a dozen times before year's out Is it time to plough in some of the older crop in favour of newer varietels ?

Somewhere and at some point you as a 'manager' have to make the call on what is best for the team. Somewhere into this will come the question one day of whether to play Bruce or play a kid. This year i dont think its going to happen. After this years draft and some games into them and a few other players the question of playing Bruce will definitley be on the table.
-
Come on Dappa... look again. we wont keep all of the rookies for starters. Unless Valenti cements a spot this year he wil simply have proved an interesting pick at the time, a bloke with quite a it of ability just not quite what we need..etc. Youve already suspected Newton..but he maye become tradable. Wheels would have to be staring his last season in the face.. Bells future is not a gimme. Russian's grip on a spot is weakening by each game Finding 3 despite any other shananagans ought not prove to hard a task.

This year 1 and 2 are asolutge gold. Will not be traded for anything.and I ask for what would/could we e interested in ? we arent looking at a windown next year.( that willbe a couple more probably ) We still need a few more into the mix. Having said that maybe we do considertrading any other picks.. and thats ANY other. It all depends whats on offer and what we need. Other teams will be evaluating in terms of where they are on the clock and what their shortcomings are weighed against what is out there. The GC factor comes into play. Where for the most part the last few years have seen a minimum of activity come trade week I think it might be brisk usiness this year as those that fancy themselves bolster their ranks and those looking to uild or better lists will manouvre accordingly But picks 1 and 2 will stay with us..no point using them for anything else than the best 2 in the draft

Bartram - one of many in this side that worries me with what they do with the all.. all very well getting it..need to improve with effeciveness ( hes not alone ) Bate - de-Bate-ale isnt he....needs to do something or in danger of becoming irrelevent to our future..a shame Bennell - having moments.. and they are good.. like the look of this kid Bruce - so much effort and endeavor...so many stuff ups..frustrating to the max Davey - now heres a real footballer Dunn - Dunn-derhead !! more things in the cons than the pros here.. Frawley - really growing on me, this lad Johnson - a decent game without anythign brilliant..am hoping for more Jones - really starting to [censored] me off to tell the truth.. disposal anf thinking is killing all his good work. Maric - slowly getting ack into the swing.. needs to have more confidence back in his kicking McDonald - such the trier *sigh* Martin - heres an interesting one.. a surprise up forward.. a ahndy assett whos only getting better McLean - hasnt quite found his groove this year..and I think others disposals are niggling him..might just be me though Meesen - well ...umm.. seemed ok actually..have to admit..lol Miller - no diamond...but definitley a handy trier.. "confounds" i think is the word. Definitely etter now he kicks more..strangely one of few who can !! go figure Moloney - gets a tick !! Morton - starting to lift.. going to watch him more now..Moments of brilliance ( if subtle) keep this one Petterd - back to kicking school young man Rivers - starting to wonder Robertson - someone who knows where the goals are..a handy thing..lol Sylvia - a game of two halves... not realy what we want is it Colin ? Warnock - sound and resolute down back. has really got to grips with the position

If there are any truly astute and forward thinking leaders amongst the Casey Council and its think tanks then THIS is the time to lobby the State Gov with some sort of proposal to ( for the gov ) embrace Casey as the new heartland of expansion and the perfect site fore a new People's Park. A home for sport including Footy that is more in keeping with the traditions and values of old. Now is the time to do this and in a manner which allows the State to develop the city site as an eco suburb ( whatever that translates into....lol ) and still participate in the growth of our INDIGENOUS game. I put it in those terms because its the sort of stuff pollies like. And we know how dumb and buzz-struck these idiots can get so any help we can offer can surely be to our advantage. Yes Brumby you can have your cake ( green of course ) and eat it to !! It wouldnt take a Kings ransom to Manuka like Casey Fields. Hey stick the trains there too and Dumby's on a winner. Hey Casey Folk...go vist uncle Kev..he has oodles of money to stimulate There is much logic and upcase with a further development at Casey..however logic and common sense arent the strong suits of those with the purse strings. Go Casey people...go lobby !!!..squeeky wheel and all that !!

Whilst the idea of 40000 is certainly salivating..I feel that 35000 in '10 is definitely a realistic goal. In all likely hood Melbourne will score the "double" and garner picks 1 & 2 as well as other decent picks in both the national and psd and in so seriously bolster its stocks going forward. No, we wont win too many games this year ( as if we'd want to ) but we will start to become cohesive and I predict even now that there will be some serious 'revving ' up in the media about how 'astute' the Mfc brains trust has been in suffering short term pain as its sets itself up as a definite power over the forthcoming decade. Such enthusing and gushing will generate more momentum and genuine belief that the 'masterplan" ( whatever it is/was) is now bearing fruit. A forward team including the likes of Watts, Maric, Jurrah, Butcher,Wonaeamirri .. a midfield with Scully, McLean Moloney and Jones ably fed ( possily ..lol ) by a Spencer or Meesen ( who knows..lol ) ..defenders in Garland, Rivers ( one hopes !! ) Martin ,Warnock, Frawley etc. onballers Davey , Sylvia ( if still in R&B) and others. Get this lot to click..and it aint too shabby.. I expect us to end up with approx 31500 in 09.... not much of a jump to 35000 :) Now given a decent showing in '10...then the bandwagon will indeed start rolling.. Suddenly the Sweetheart team of the State..the mighty Demons are building momentum as they march, then charge the September limelight. It will become too infectious for the doubters , fencesitters and closet barrackers to stand any longer.. 40000 in '11/12 A golden era or possibly more correctly our Purple Patch is nearly upon us.. funny mix red and blue..and what do you get ?? far fetched......maybe not
