  1. and you know...some still won't understand this, though you have cradled the complete ethos of what many here are trying to say. As in many other paths of life you continually pursue the idea of trading up at al available opportunities. In so doing you WILL part with things ( players) in order to gain a better one. It shouldnt be that hard to grasp...really !!
  2. always remember..your money ="ours" and hers is "hers" and you wil have domestic bliss
  3. why ? our goal spree kicking forwards are having that much of a day out ?? Doesnt hurt at this juncture to see what he can do. Frosty can always play down back. Lets experiment a bit..mix it up.. who ever knows whatmight come of it. We dont have that 'perfect' team yet who's balance is so finely honed we dare not upset
  4. It does beg the question though doesnt it...you tend to think of players geting better...not worse ? In this day and age you need more than half your list as 18-21 yo's probably a third 21-25 with whats left as the 'elite' elder statesmen of the club. You expect the 21-25's to be steady consumate players ( well sort of..lol ) ..they are contributors week in week out...not still learning or promising to one day be the goods...they ought to be by now...and thats where we fall down big time There is no try..there is only do !! well we sort of have fodder if not cattle.. might as well introduce them as soon as near to . They dont have to stay there week in week out but lets see who can and who's not. This isnt to say its a one only exam of merit but itll give us an idea of who is near the mark and who needs more time. There no loser in that We arent in any window.. Dappa..please refrain from ever speaking of those colours here
  5. 30343 . . . . ^ still climbing
  6. thatd be worth the look . Have nothing against Bennel, in fact he has much promise and a it of poise about him. One of a few who seems to be able to keep ( most of the time too ) but might do with a rest and a chance to run a it easier in the magoos Bate needs to find something.from where ever...so a spell downstairs might help him as well. Good chance to give the other lads a run.
  7. actually id like to lose...in so much as returning the favour let them get there under false steam and get blown away
  8. As to the rucking abilites we may have to agree to see disimilar qulaities. Having said that I as many will concur that Jamar is a ruck in the more classic view. In that light Im going to suggest thathe in favour of PJ would hold currency come trade week. Rucks arent exactly plentiful on theground and he ( MJ ) might attract some interest. I dont think PJ will get another gig at AFL if he cant cement it with us. So if the rationale is to trim the numbers.. Jamar becomes a better and more likely candidate..for mine
  9. Im just wondering if Jared isnt at 100% then this ground with expose him. Might be just me ut Rivers seems to play a game based around the flight of the ball and this is fine unless your direct opponent is leaving you breathing burnt ruber !!
  10. Rhino I agree with your outlook there except in that I think PJ really has more to offer than Jamar. However youre absolutely on the money in saying with more options both ought to consider life after MFC. And I say thata little disappointed with PJ as I thought he was really starting to show something..still..he might again and then we revisit this qunadary of seemingly ok one minute and let downs the next. For us as a club to become truly a force to be reckoned with this level of achievement by players simply isnt enough. I suppose the winner of the Russian roulette at seasons end will be , do we need a back up ruck only type ( with limited side orders ) or a back up in a ruck/roverish type ?
  11. I suppose the thing with McLean and Jonesy is we expect them to be our "elite' 1st and 2nd midlfielders when really by league standards they are 2nd and 3rd respectively. Nothing to do with endeavor before all and sundry jump up and down ....its about reality and results. edit P.S. more the more reasons why we desperately need to secure a gun of a midfielder in this years draft
  12. good job we played the Roos first up as we'd probably thrash them right now and Richmond without Richo is simply MND ...Many Nightmarish Days !! lol
  13. I think sometimes we all ( me too ) can get conned into thinking the game is far more complex than it really is. A forward has only one job really.. to kick goals. Not only kick golas but to kick them at every opportunity and with consistency. They are at the end of a chain of efforts and those eforts need to be respected and rewarded with scoreboard pressure. If you are incapable of doing it then stand aside and allow someone who can. Newton seems to thrive at VFL level and choke at AFL level . Not everyone is cut out for the big stage
  14. Some of these ..keep them /cull them decisions have to by requirements be ooked upon by category. With respect to the rucking we have essentially 4. Jamar, Johnson, Meesen and Spencer It might make more sense longer term to reduce that to three for now and lokto score and develop another to follow and team up with Spencer at some stage. In that light with much surprise I think that Meesen might have actually got himslef across the line for now. Hes not brilliant, but is surprising many ( myself included ) and could prove handy even if not demostrably match winning. Keeping Spencer is a given I would have thought. SO its a choice between Russian and Johnson. ..not a hard one really in that PJ is a much better all rounder with more dimension to his play. That means its essentially sayonara baby to Jamar. Theres 1.. only need 3 or so more to find. Wheels as mentioned is a likely candidate too.. So its now 2 ( or so ) to find. Doubt all rookies to be kept. So we'll say at least one from here only leaves one more. So the trimming of numbers isnt really all that hard
  15. well if not dead wood,...close to dead in the water ..or heading that way..welll, in the case of Wheels. Matt is out of contract at seasons end. The likelyhood of any extension is probably low what with the kids coming through and the probability of other and aggrevated injuries reocccurring it would probably be prudent to thank Wheels and wish him well. Many are saddened by these instances but its just part of football etc. Wheats has a few more years in him and him booming kick and pace might be handy for a season or two more. But it will definitley depend on how Bails & co see his role unfolding
  16. I applaud your stance. I take it you're prepared to say that it, adieu , adios, cya later to anyone who doesnt cope and adapt ? As this is my view. You create the est design and then source the materials to build it...as opposed to dodgy bros who will look around at whats at hand and throw something together. This is where MFC has fallen down over the years. Now, NOW we have a more methodical and deliberate plan. It will take patience and application . If the piece doesnt quite fit the hole and cant be honed to shape then you get more and different bits. This is exactly the path taken by Hawthorn and other premiership winning teams. There will indeed be much of the talent required on our list.. and much of it is raw. We also still have squarish pegs that will need to be traded/delisted etc. Its about the team, not individuals !!
  17. maybe your not on the same page here.. Im not saying he will get the boot at seasons end.. He will indeed be in red and blue nextyear.. beyond that I doubt. Increasingly , esp next season there is nothing to say he is an auto start
  18. Keep in mind this isnt Rotary or such.. theres no clause that requires or allows a current captain to automaticaly play on ( Go ask Neeta ) Jnr is most likely as they say an interim leader. If he cant add to the equation then y default hes detracting from it. MFC must leasrn only those adding can be in the team. AlL good things comes to an end and so it wil for some stalwart and loved club players.. thats just life !!
  19. A little reality shall we The team is rebuilding.. Youth is the key.. game time is required. We arent looking to play serious finals for a number of years. We arent that flash.. hence our position on the ladder, but we are .getting better and heading in the right direction by all accounts. Players such as Robbo , Whelan & McDonald wont be part of that action... so where is the rationale that Bruce will be the exception ?? Where is th eassociated logic to renew his contract beyond '10. If thats the case then whilst you will use him to effect his forward value isnt high. Therefore his time is most likely numbered too
  20. not directly with watts..but as watts will undoubtedly take the 1st up role then it only leaves rom for two others really ( of Newtons ilk ) and theres more than enough competition for that possie. So Watts doesnt help his ( newtons ) cause one little it.
  21. I would suspect under normal conditions he would be assigned the 3rd up. But he has ( now) t econfidence to break from his man and take the ball in play. A gutsy thing to do. alls it up and you are worse than dog poo !! He moves far more confidently now and is quite something to watch He can breal the line and one of the few ( at present who seems to understand how to deliver a ball in a forward moving manner..i. not to put the reciever under needless pressure or needing him to backtrack and lose the momentum. Is good to see him develop
  22. Keep in mind other teams will be even more poorly situated with regard to the draft and their lists going forward. They are hardly likley to hand over anything near what those prized picks are worth.
  23. Im sorry I just cant fathom why anyone is considering handing over a hard to get early pick in the last of the even drafts for at least 5 years. We are NOWHERE near a tilt and near to bolster the ranks and improve the overall gene pool. We dont have 'that' much that we can afford to be cavalier about it now. Picks 1 and 2 stay firmly in our hands for the best 2 players.. By al lmeans see who comes to the table for other offerings ut these two are non negotiable to me. Next year is a different kettle of fish
  24. 3 more would be Watts, Jurrah and possibly Martin....not even daring to mention possible #2 draft pick
  25. OK..lets put Oct 2010 down as D-day ( well month..lol )
