  1. cheers...great insights etc. A handy view from the ol' church town By the week trengove for me cements his possie as out best option at #2 it would be marvellous to get 4 or 5 of these top 12 players ..but obviously its not happening. Still, we're geting two it will be very interesting to see who gets picked up by whom thi syear as for many teams its the last good dip in the pool for a whiles. Plenty of talent in SA ...happy for some to come our way From what you have observed Dee-man would Trengove be a walk up start come round 1 ? and if you have to rate th ebest aspect of his game...whatis it ? cheers Keep updates coming

  3. probably his biggest let downisnt it.. had he been applying serious scoreboard pressure I suspect many would be signing his praises not lamenting another disappointment. Footy is cruel if you kcik a bit wayward huh !!
  4. might be "show time " for PJ
  5. + pot ??
  6. oh yeah...obviously someone had some good mail regarding this... ..got any more ?? :D
  7. well thats a definite for Whelan and Wheatley Wheatley and Whelan to retire at seasons end Two servants on their way ( god luck ) So that frees up two spots as definite If they made a song and dance about the #4 Jumper there ought to pomp and ceromony when Ronald Dale presents his #31 to the next great thing ( Im guessing a midfielder)
  8. I would expect Bail is a bit of a project with Bailey affording him the second year to really show something ( if he has it )
  9. Regarding forward structures I tend to agree with the poster that its not how it used to be. There is always the place for a good marking ( overhead ) option but many more opportunities are created as mentioned on the lead. The danger for a defence is to leave a tall unmanned and with pathways before him. Forward lines should be that.. a cohesive unit that always presents options . In underage and youuth footy the classical styles are easier to use as the body strength ( or lack of ) often requires a more classical approach. In the 'real' game where man-a -man tussling and niggling is more prevalent there is no yard given anymore. This is why often start forward in TAC etc often take a whiles to acclimatise. Those with good footy nouse and real ability will continue to develop and prosper...whilst some have already effectively reached there ceiling. There is no hard and fast rule to all this and invariably some recruiting comes down to educated dice rolling. Some kids just have it though...hence teh accolades already given to blokes like Scully , Tregove..Morabito etc. Stil healthy scepticism is warranted on other players. Still ATEOTD...there are no guarantees !!
  10. @ self
  11. seldom watch this anymore.. was anything said.. or did they all just clam up ??
  12. sit ya self down...get comfy... pie with that beer??
  13. last time I looked rain didnt stop a train sealing a pool isnt rocket science. whatis your source for this development ? I understood the gov was still calling in expressions of interest for the redevelopment /covering of the yards
  14. My understanding is Robbo is efectively out of contract come seasons end.The club cant really have its cake and eat it by not extending an offer and then wanting recompence for any sort of trade. Robbo will walk into the PSD if he wishes to elongate his career. I cant see how or why we would get anything... thats life
  15. I wonder if Wheatas has eyed the NFL ?
  16. Hopefully Wheaters wil lbe up to it by rnd 22.. Just like to see those booming kicks one last time wouldnt mind seeing him lob it from the wing into a pocket with Watts and Jurrah waiting ... be worth the thrashing were likely to endure..lol
  17. If I was looking to trade I would have one major caveat overhanging all possibles. AGE..as it equals longevity. Bymyclock we could make serious inroads to this competition within 2-3 years and I honestly beleive with a modicul of decent luck and fortune 9 all things being occasionally equal) we can tilt in 4-5. If thats the case you really dont want ANY player on the list thats coming into the team now to be say greater than 28-29 then. That means the cut off inmy view is any player current 24-25. The player(s) to look out for are where a particular team has an abundance of one sort or anoter and as such a particular promising hopeful just doesnt get a look in. Either that or somone is simply on the outer as they might have used up their three wishes at that particular club...I.e Gardiner etc. We need players coming into this Melbourne line up now to be a cohesive addition to a burgeoning outfit. Someone who might still have development in them. Taking in homelss matures isnt of any appreciable value..not now...nor in 4-5 years. If we were about to climb through an open window right now..it would be very diferent...but were not.
  18. Each to their own really isnt it. If a player stil has yards in him..they bully for him ..all power..and good luck. Sadly not al recognise the sign at teh enf of an illustrious walk etc. Personally have no problem with anyone going anywhere, its their life and career. Footy is relativley a short time in the sun so youd be a mug not to try and wring it for all its worth.
  19. Is it just me that gets jittery when you keep hearing this or that player is injured ??
  20. Bit like the recession we had to have. Not plesant at all.. and yet in order for the New Melbourne to blossom and grow the paddock had to be ploughed over and re-tilled. Otherws might say its likepruning roses.. you go right back almost brutally. It is an end of an era..its also the beginning of a new one and no disrepect to those of the previous but this one will be successful, truly successful.
  21. if both Robbo and Junior retire..would not Bruce be eligble for veterans ?
  22. Hear hear !! Good fortune in your travels Wheaters....... couldnt do us a favour before you go and show some of the rest the better ways of kicking !!
  23. The thing for me about all this is that once you get a couple of teams entering the market there can be a bit of a knock on effect. Not all deals are straight forward.. We have seen in the past convoluted deals encompassing 3 teams and various players and picks doing the musical chairs This year and I suggest next years rtrade weeks will be brought more sharply into focus as avenues of topping up for 'certain' teams. Some teams may release bone-fide players back into the market place in order to get some rare youth stocks on their books. GC and WS will have an intersting effect I predict.
  24. and you dont think thats exactly what will happen ? We're done with losing...its served it purposes, now Bailey will be desiging teams and carriculae to win.
  25. Keep in mind Watts's #4 was part of a big publicity event. Historically ( but not always ) lower numbers were reserved for the starting team and or the more senior players. This of course changed over the years but generally a number under 40 or there abouts meant you werent walking onegg shells week in week out. Combine this with the special heritage of certain numbers through the years gived added meaning to the jumpers.
