  1. I would have thought that once youve assembled your list two years is reasonable to guage improvement indeed success. Ayears extension would seem prudent. In that time span he either weaves magic...or he doesnt.
  2. Its chalk and cheese isnt it.. GC will have some sort of history and heritage to fall back onto. There is a genuine following up there and I fully expect them to be competitve at a good level inside 2-3 years.. They will earn some respect. GWS will become the laughing stock, the whipping boys of the comp completely austricised by the town it supposed to represent. No one will want to follow this lot. why they havent chosen to possibly showcase a few NAB cup matches and maybe even a couple of fair dinkum seasoon games at a venue in the area is anyones guess. They could have guaged the interest and proceeded with care following this guide. Its just insanity. A waste of money. Its not Visional ...its just bloody minded egostical pig headedness by the two biggest Cronies in Vlad and Boy Blunder !! Why dont the clubs fight back ...why cant these idiots be ousted. The AFL is supposed to do the clubs' bidding...not other way round.
  3. Port needs to trade says Tredrea Apologies of sorts as the concept of dealing with Port has cropped up in a few threads.. But their focus has been directed from which Melb player might go. I suppose in a sense so is this... but its from Ports perspective. Tredrea proffers that Salopek may be used to entice...he also alludes to Pearce and Ebert. Some interest will no doubt be had Tredrea at 30 odd cant expect to be around much longer either so Power must be staring a major rebuild in the face...bugger the poor timing huh !! A number of factors must come into play here. 1st round draft picks I can only imagine will be gold. I cant really see any club prepared to offer up its pick with out major recompense. However Port may simply wish to do deals that upgrade and add picks. I understand the club wishes toretain 1 and 2..so if we accept that at face value then our deals must imitially come via picks 18 and 34 in conjunction with players going both ways ( or possibly not depending on the picks swap combination ) I have no doubt this years Trade week will be like nothing thats gone before. Some teams will be in near panic mode desperate to get something out of the draft, others will be opportunistic in a vulture like way preying on this . Now that at least one team has all but announced it intends to play, others will start loosening the player lists. Many here salivate over the idea of Boak . The more I think of it, however nice that would be he ( Boak ) must be one of the cornerstones of any new rebuild at Port. For many teams followers its about to get very messy Salopek might be handy. but how much so if we get Scully and Trengove. as they say...let the games commence
  4. I could agree..they are the Implosion / immolation experts. But even they have far too much to play for. Top spot isnt the thing..they need momentum and Lyon will be pulling all stops out to get the Sainters firing again, Its highly likley we will play them into form. I cansee our lads having a crack though. ....just falling short by a bit.or a bit more than a bit..ll We realy dont have the cattle..or rather the right herd to pull off a win.....but we can try to make a game of it

    Jamar

cant quite recall where or when but I seem to remember something about the club saying 1 and 2 are not for trading.. pick 18 and Jamar for Boak is the best they could expect on curent picks. Trade week can throw up some intersting permutations however Boak could end up here as part of some contrived thre way deal. Time will tell. I still prefer Rivers and 18 for Boak though
  6. yes.a funny old world without meanng to be pedantic, at current rate we ought to end up with 1, 2, 18, 34, 50 and PSD 1. still only 16 teams...ftm !! lol
  7. Trengove seems better balanced with poise.. Scully has a bit of "hard nut "about him. Think they might complement each other quite nicely whilst adding to what we already have. Jack needs a bit less of the up and under passing technique. Scully very..VERY quick of hand. What a shame to have to pick between...wait... WE DONT !!!!!! :D :D
  8. Its always an interesting notion this...that is..Is Bailey doing OK..Is he the right man ? etc etc The problem for many is how you evaluate this ? What denotes success or failure ? Many seem to suffer from Myopia come Retinitis in seeing the role for what it really is. He is the coach, he is charged with many duties but I would say the principal one is that of moulding and teaching a group to play in cohesion with results leading towards a premiership(s) That is the bigger picture view. In such succes or failure is simply : Have Melbourne won/winning premierships during his tenure. As yet, not yet. But its not really fair to judge that in a 5 min scenario. You dont win premierships in 5 mins. Its a journey that can start at various places. These depend on where you are ( teamwise/clubwise ) at the start of a Coaches charge. Dean took over a lumbering aging behemoth living and fighting from week to week invariably employing sub standard ( by afl Levels ) equipment and facilities. You are really battling uphill doing this. The expresion a journey of a thousand miles start with the first steps refers to the notion ..you simply have to start..and start somewhere. It also infers you wont geet very far in the first moments as the journey is arduous and requires persistance. The club itself has undergone change around Dean even whilst he has been attempting his own creating which must have initiallycaused some doubling up of efforts. Many simply see foty as the going out of two teams, approx 2 hours of sporting struggle followed by a result. In its simplest form that probably is the game. But theres more than a game, theres the team, more thana team, theres the club, more than the club theres the competition and supporters. None of this exists in isolation of itself. Then there is progression. By its very notion it mean you start somewhere and hopefully getsomewhere ( theres that 1000 mile idea again ) .many are already thinking.. crawl before you walk before you run etc.. ..more progression. Bailey has started. He has reinvigorated teh team with new selections and affording players new experiences outside of their previous playing CV. He will continue to bring in new blood via the drafts and trade. From this and interpolating results to date its reasoable tosuppose that next year we wil lnotch up anywhere from 6-10 wins. We will be competitive. Thats the next step in the journey, the ability to compete, not just play. Fromcompeting come wins and fromenough wins come finals....and from participation in finals comes opportunity to take the grand prize, but only then. You have to get there first and to get there you need the team and the ability. Coaching AFL is really about a process towards premierships. it encompases people management, skills direction, team plays, facilities discussions, medai interactions , board reports...and so on and so on. Winning games is part of the journey towards a goal but its not actually teh real goal in itself. winning one game, two games, five games even twelve games in itslef accomplishes nothing if you are not doing so with purpose and method and a direction. I particularly feel this is what Bailey is about. Turning whilst refurbishing the ship and setting sail towards that distant reward. We will lose games along the way. Some were part of the pain needed to be endured. There will be further losses but these wil lbe counterd by more wins, then better wins, then combinations of wins. To look at either a loss or a win by itslef whilst offering up knowledge of that effort tells nothing about the overall journey. Mnay seasoned observers of teh game , both profesional and amateur alike are remarkign on our progress; that is has purpose and direction. Many see us stepping up next year. A common thread amongst a lot of this reporting is that this is not without design. As they say, there is method in his madness and without doubt some question Baileys credentials not only of football but sanity itself but Im sure if you step back away fromteh week in week out game mentailty and look at how the club is bettering itself both from a player persepctive as well as facilities then you will see we are geting somewhere, and that somewhere will probably take another 3-5 years

    GWS

Im still not sure whether Im bemused by all this or dismayed. The year after next sees the introduction of the 17th AFL franchise the Gold Coast Football Club. I can actually se this working. The club will be from a place where they actually DO play our wonderful game. There already exists teams and a league. We have followed its course of gestation to where the GC has a team, it actually exists. Currently earning its dues in lower comps it will burst onto the big stage in 2011. A litte lower down on the map and inboard from the New South capital itself is supposedly the next cab off the rank. Greater Western Sydney... who the what ???? The AFL must be on some seriously good drugs. There is no AFL culture to speak of in this inhospitable corner of the world. The locals will only speak league if and when they are capable of speech itself. Other than the junior leagues many seem caught in a time warp of Norms and wont leave the telly to watch a game live. But even this isnt the concern for mine..Just who are GWS and where are they.? This team sems to morph its identity more often than a schizophrenic chameleon. I dont see a club per se I just see an empty vessel with branding. Where are the players ? where are the adminstrators ? is there a Footy Dept ? How on earth can a team expect to enter the highest competition in theland and have nothiing to speak of at present.
  10. Clever teams come right at this time of year..seems teh Sainters peaked too early.. if the Filth have their wobble..teh Saints have their Faints !! Theyought to acount for us this comingweekend but idont ( now ) like their chances come the sharp end of the season. They dont seemto be able to perform when it really matters. witness... StKilda need a goal to win... choke North need a goal to win... nail it. Its all in the head and Im starting to wonder if the Saints arent a victim of over achieving and now doubt is creeping in.
  11. Thankyou Dappa for the further clarification. it didnt sound much like the Gazza that has supported Bails thoughout his tenure. The AFL has created a monster.it is though a monster of convenience as it will claimthat despite its uglines the PP has a levelling efect. It does but it needs an overhaul and facelift. We, as a club, may well look back one day and think how lucky we were to be the last real beneficiaries of "the gift " In the overview of the game..its not a matter of winning...but wining when it matters. Strangely in the sport of kings many a trainer enters a horse not to win..but to accomplish a specific goal. Its part of 'settuing up' then ..its entered for the real event it wants to claim and hopefuly does. Lesson..its literaly horses for courses. Melbourne is being 'set up' for the real events, these past two years are just a path to our destination
  12. Id be extremely disappointed in Gazza if this were true. Its about winning the wars and not necessarily all batles, about winning a premiership(s) not necessarily all games. Amazing how this simple concept is beyond the comprehension of some
  13. where is this listed on Centrebet ?? cant see it...do you need to have to log in ??
  14. In the old parlance we called this getting sucked in and have notived at time he'll let up on a chase instead of corraling /going the player and smothering etc..i.e He..like a lot of players just lets the play continue.. and this when the opportunity to stop often exists. He needs to improve this and then he'll be more the complete player
  15. Official crowd 37,433 (AFL ) interesting that the StKilda Roos games today only attracted 30,522 (source..afl.com.au) geez..must be some sort of penalty for teams playing Sundays......who da thunk !!! <_< I do believe Demon Den pulled off this weeks closest the pin
  16. no probs... interesting that Sheeds quietly thinks were in a window around 4-5 years I tend to agree....
  17. Tanks for the memory for the benefit of others
  18. might have to.,.... running out of players
  19. You dont need to be able to play at the highest level in order to understand it. Never confuse the two. One is not dependent upon the other. Many a good coach never achieved the highest accolades but they are able to see the flaws in others. Not for a moment necessarily placing myself or any others here in that particular regard but just because you cant draw a perfect circle freehand doesnt mean you dont recognise one when you see it or appreciate the drawer when they do
  20. where do I say I like losing ?? i simply understand its part of the process to the future. Meaningless wins at this juncture compared to gaining superior talent bare no comparison. Again...you are seemingly incapable of interpreting what is really going on. Its marvellous that you support Melbourne, its lamentable you cant see the forrest for the trees. Hopefully youll understand next year. And we'll be winning a lot more then by the way... its the reward for what we endure now.
  21. No...its called seeing beyond teh smokescreen and mirrors. Its understanding a process takes some effort and theres pain involved. Ever heard of the expression...you dont make an Ommelette without breaking eggs ?? I barrack and support our club.I am as critical as anyone here or at teh ground. I will also praise efforts when deserved. Bailey has has an arduous task in rebuilding a team, managing end-of -careers, balancing two visions from boards and all the whiles sticking to a plan to do this within the parameters of an ambiguous AFL and a truck load of injuries. I think thats a pretty good effort
  22. He has my respect. You dont think Bailey and Stynes are on the same page ?? You obviously talk to fools !!
  23. That was a seriously undermanned team playing today. Add up the game time of all but the few real vets and we're a bit green. "That is because very little has changed unless winning one more game amounts to some kind of improvement." what on earth does this translate into ?? which way are you leaning.
  24. Probably only half a yard and a few pound of grey matter away from imposing ourselves on thsi competition. Just shows the difference between playing for top four and playing out the year. They tried...but some strange footy amongst all of that. Must be very very hard when undermanned and under skilled ( relaltively ) If ya havent the cattle its hard to get a decent steak
  25. hear hear !! bugger that luck Wrecker good luck
