  1. lets see the choice is : A) A team at/near its peak , unfriendly skies and deeming you a little on the nose, needs to train X2 in order to get a look in !!.. chances pay = only satisfactory B) Another team whos direction is squarely pointed up, looking to peak in 3-4 onwards.. plenty of game time ( if fit ) and an open arm welcome. pay = over the mark !! thats about what it comes down to
  2. He isnt allowed to come right out and say ...hey ..heres #1 and #2 !! Its contra AFL ( unless youre GC or WS apparently ) Hes saying he wont say who's first....all but firms up they are 1 and 2 kinda narrowing it down isnt he Trengove and Scully are going One and Two..or Two and One...or 1-1/2 and 1-1/2 !!! edit If they ARE locked in...why burn money for no gain ??
  3. what part of that article gave you any indication we WERENT going to pick him ? He all but came out and said its a coin toss between Scully And Trengove as to who goes first but that they are by far the two standouts.. Case of join the dots really. Melbourne has seen enough of these two... do you need to have seen 19 or 20 games amongst your staff to know
  4. Total speculation. Not every kid is going to want to run off and play for the "surfies" or the "westies " 2012 and Melbourne will be looking at its looming window.. GC will still be establising itself, whilst the West Sydney Abismals wont have kicked a serious ball in real footy anger having only played magoo level . These guys will still be able to get some good money from Melbourne. Each club only gets one player from the exiting 16 but granted GWS has two years in which to do it. Im not particularly concerned about any mass exodus from the Dees...we will just be coming into our own and WE will be a team many will be vying to play for.
  5. I would think theres nothing stopping the club renegotiating new contracts in 2011 carrying them through all this rough turbulence. We wont lose anyone we really want to keep
  6. In light of these draconian exclusive conditions I fervently hope we never get it (world cup) They can all well and truly @#$% of !! This is Melbourne...we are a multicultural city with sport running through our veins. We have held every other major event bar the World Cup invariably raising the bar for each event. We could participate in this and do it on our ear..but at the exclusion of a sport which is as Melbourne as the Yarra River and VB. then no thank you... You can go shove your soccer up some other void !! <_< Soccer needs Melbourne...we dont need Soccer..
  7. I think Valenti suffers a bit from being a me-too player in that he's good without brilliance ( at AFL level ) With the likes of Scully and Trengove coming into the middle there becomes less need for another 2nd level midfielder. he offer a bit of depth and thats about it. It will probably be perceived that there is better quality yet to be matured for these positions and so he's expendable. In time we'll know exactly why Bucks didnt make it. The thing Im wondering is who if anyone will go next friday ? I just have this funny feeling the FD is just watching and waiting on a few before making that final decision. I dont think the axe has been put away just yet as their thinking might be that there is still going to be someone interesting to take at 34 with more upside than some still on the list.
  8. Thanks for the heads up there old' was an interesting read. No great surprises though. Her thinking regards the bunching of picks is very apt. It must server to juggle the order a bit.
  9. AFL contracts would have to be by their nature bilateral. Expectations and conditions both ways. Cessation clauses pertinent to both parties would be outlined in such cases as either party wishes out and reason for which it could be enacted. The numbers would already be established as part of the offer and acceptance. Again.. contracts can be paid out..it will all be their in print.
  10. Contracts are based upon mutually agreed terms within a framework. Some frameworks are preconstructed and others arent. All work within the resepective rights under law except where inapplicable or waived . It doesnt actually get any harder than that. You can make it seem so..but it isnt. You are going off on a tangent in regards implied damages and perceptions. Real damages are areas for compensations, monied or otherwise. Honouring a contract is where a party either fulfills or compensates. Again...dont try and flower it up, its not warranted. Contracts of course cease the moment both parties agree to end them, if one doesnt ..then they seek compensation. . There are no if, buts and maybes in legal documents..there are clauses and conditions within. The issue of any percieved moral aspects regarding contracts in the nature of goodwill and such are just that, they are exterior to the agreements. If a club wants to pay out a player it can do just that. The issue of proprietary or common sense and any other flow on in these regards is another issue..has nothing to do with the contract per se.
  11. come back when your lucid.. You have no idea of what contracts are do you... In essence.. A do X for B, paid Y..if B doesnt want A you it still pay A out the money..its that simple. is that beyond you ?.. dont get precious re symbols mate.. Re Wallace...stupid example really as he failed to deliver.. .. so if youre going down the dicey road of ambiguous meanig for 'honouring " then he didnt either..it makes it all moot. Contracts by their nature are cut and dried. If one side wants out it has to compensate...that's in contract parlance ( not your emotive rubbish ) the meaning of honouring.
  12. Moloney may well become a good leader /captain. We will see his audition this coming season
  13. an annoying chiche !! omg...how terrible no more ..bleeds red and blue.. no more ..one week at a time no more.. we're building a team to go the distance.. and on and on Football, sport..in general is full of often silly cliches... hardly a cause worthy of effort to belittle
  14. well this may then fall in line with some grand scheme to increase the pool.. More teams might require simply more games. I would concur Rhino that as the AFL sees the golden pot of TV as its bottomless pit of revenue that it needs to provide content. Has to come from somewhere. A lightning premiership would I agree be incredibly entertaining. But by its nature is over fairly quickly..in terms of days etc so maybe not sufficient hours viewing to feed the telly's hunger. if TV wants to increase its audience it needs to develop other markets...and get the flow on etc. Still all this doesnt really answer which teams and where. QLD is growing... it will be one day the biggest Footy state other than Vic....just by shear weight of numbers. If NSW could sustain 2 teams then QLD could do 4 , eventually even 5 ( in 15-20 ) if taking the AFL stance on perseverence to establish market inroads. food for thought.. pop projections for QLD in nearish future Projection Population QLD 2031 thats a lot of people and Pop projections Australia ( ABS) SA will not incur particularly significant growth.. WA wil possibly double by 2056.. NSW and Vic to be 10.2 mil and 8.5 for Vic by 2056. All figures are based on certain assumptions etc and even when taken with salt the potential for market growth in terms of numbers is there.. Market growth in terms of region is another thing.
  15. Jaded...if you are dead set serious in this world ..you..as an individual need to make things happen. An off the cuff ink here and there wont do much if anything. You need to mock up a few samples.. by hook and by crook and organise a meeting with Scwabby.. etc.. if you are keen as mustard they WILL give you a hearing.. That I've noticed about this club now is they will listen....and in fact do !! One of the best ways to promote anything is by stealth. A casual range ..fashionable and with it..as well as some classics ( for us oldies..lol ) with that logo will constantly reinforce the brand ( MFC ) It then permeates the culture and crosses over lines.. many people wear Billabong who arent surfies..and probably dont know where the nearest beach is. Many wear Russell Athletic whilst obviously showing abject disconcern for where any gym is etc. So Jaded..if you really believe you have a product worth marketing...do that...ll journeys start with that first littel step... youve done that and designed some very good stuff..good starting point.. Next step...shove it under someones nose ...someone who can do something !! go on..do it !! I wish you luck..we probably all do
  16. there's an expression....to make the best of a bad situation..now thats engineering tankyou very much !!
  17. OK..I'm with you in that they are differing circumstances regarding the nature of drafting..( all announcements aside..lol ) They have quite different backyards in which to play compared to ours ( or indeed established footy locales) I had the pleasure of playing footy in Western Sydney in 1971-2 ( high school ) and I would have been more 'normal' had I been from mars !! so I understand the nature of the beast. It does serve well to know who is going where..and ahead of time. Others can dance around this and make amends etc.. So the crux of the matters tends to promotion, exposure, validity etc. I think the AFL really needs to address this in a much more compensating manner than at present.
  18. The current membership at posting is 10280 ^ Not too shabby really for this early juncture. I wonder if 35,000 is too much ?? well if we could aim for 30000 last season and smash it...who knows..
  19. I predict within 5 years NAB games will be held in South Africa, Mid East ( Dubai possibly ) North America( US/Canada) , Ireland and Japan....China not impossible.
  20. did I say Australia ??
  21. You know...all in all its great to see players get fired up and respecting the jumper, both individually and as a team. It bodes well...and they should get goosebumps when the dark, dark Blue and blood Red make their return
  22. Umm..how exactly is 'paying out ' a contract not honouring it ?? Is IS honouring it!!. Not paying it is dishonouring it surely !!
  23. I think the point A33 and i are getting at is .. how is it OK for GC to infer..let alone SAY anything concrete about a draft. ? Its only a different draft in that GC can make no claims to this years.. but none the less they are announcing exactly who they are taking with a pick..and that is absolutely flying in the face of the instructions to the other clubs regarding this years ( draft ). So agree or not..there seems to be two sets of standards here. I would proffer the following regarding bringing forward the draft. Whilst things are 'secret' and unknown for many players awaiting draft selection that I would think would have a much bigger effect on any studying and resulting academic performances than actually already knowing where you are going and able to put that aside for a time. I.e it would put that issue to bed so to speak.
  24. Expansion may well be years away but thats exactly his attitude, and in some respects Id concur . You have to look at things early and plan accordingly. I'll go sit over in he corner re GWS but I will concede you have to look at some of these things from a ways back...and then make a run. Expect the AFL to schedule some NAB games in some 'interesting 'places in coming years
  25. Yes...we find flaws in Jamar and Meesen,( though its harder with him as rarely sighted..) . They are further along the road and more is expected of them. Spencer is a kid..still... but is working on his game. With maturity will come better results. he can be afforded a year or two even before writing him off. Its a valid call on discussing Cox..he was all at sea in early days too... kind of came good though didnt he ..
