  1. Amazing really...you look at a couple of those assemblies and truly wonder how we didnt get a bit closer to the silverware.. On their day.. we were peerless
  2. wouldnt you love to have Swarta and Neeta back now ..ah well Sort of highlights what we so really need...that part of the spine
  3. in all fairness he hardly does that now.. i will grant that the StKilda game got a bit weird in the second half...and thats 'weird' even by our season 09 standards, but that aside his , and I raise this again, possibly confidence( read realted to fitness ) plays a big role. He seldom now takes a contested mark.. probably wiesly opting for the knuckles. This becomes often too limiting in the effect of play. Those that will now interject with...well would you prefer an opposition mark ? No.!! and point taken. with frawley , warnock and garland he DOESNT take much responsibility down there...surely ?
  4. server in Qld perhaps
  5. hes actually right <_< damn
  6. am not surpised they didnt make the "top 30" per se ...but that wont necessarily corrolate to the way the clubs go about their selections. If it was a flat run at things the draft would probably go as perceived. But different clubs have different needs and the draft order may well show variances to the afore mentioned perception of seeding. I would have thought Temel might have crept in (top 30 ) and personally consider Daw a top 40.. the draft itself will unfold its own order.
  7. That's going to be a problem..or hurdle of sorts regarding a few players we might like to grab..either a tad early for that particular player..of not the preferred choice and simply gone come next chance. HT might be closer to the mark in him being an allrounder type...and we probably have a shopping cart of those at the club already. More looking at potential key players for 11 and 18..well my thinking . He has the pedigree though and will in all likelyhood be a long term assett to which ever club he goes.
  8. Very much so. His pace will be an assett. He tends to use the ball a lot more than say... others might. Should we get him it will be interesting to see how Bails trials him out in the NAB etc. Theres a lot of offence in this defence player
  9. just read same article.. might be pumping up Dylan a wee bit being in op 30... 40 may be more realistic.. but as you suggest he wont be there at 50. Only caveat into this is any possible effect that recycleds might have pushing some picks further up.
  10. The problem with Ryan is wed probably like to take a tall at 11 and he probably wont be around at 18...( though ive got him down somewhere ( other thread) if Vardy was gone . Probably amongst the better 5-6 mids this draft... be a bit cheeky getting 3 of them !!
  11. Hardly rubbish.. some of you Im affraid give far too many stars to Rivers..hes an adequate player wihtout being anything special.. He nearly was once before repeated injuries knobbled him. Hes never been the same since...thats a shame. He was supposed to be our great hope at CHB...those that dispute this either have very short memories..or blinkered outlooks. He IS too slow for CHB..he gets exposed terribly these days by a decent forward. Rivers can play a good negativ egame...but though some have a different opinion mine is that its pretty well limited to that. Some of his decision making and disposal it attrocious for a guy of his experience. Granted he is a like many and confidence comes into play. If he gets through the preseason and through the NAB campaign fit and fighting can revisit this then. He hasnt done it for a while has he ! Yes he can read play well...thats his forte... he plays a very Hollywood type of game but Biz was better at it. He is limited really to flanking roles.. and as such there are others about to nibble at his feet. Theres a reason he languished in the twos for longer than his injuries dictated and thats largely attitude. As others rightly point.. with Frawley and Warnock...not to mention Garland we have the taller forwards covered...so if Macdonald is coming on board...Rivers might want to make each week his best efforts. I dont dislike him at all... just want the best players out there...and hes just adequate...If were to seriously advance we need to be very good. seems unpalatable for some..so be it
  12. Are any that propose Rivers in a pocket suggesting he's on the second forward...or putting him on the thrird ? He cant play on 1st or second forwards... he's shown that. Macdonald plays tall. He can and has taken 1st and second forwards...Its arguable as to just how successful thats been . Fev ate him, but possibly wont again. ( If Macdonald studies Tarrants tactics he could get him ) Macdonald has pace and positioning ...something Jared lacks,, Riv has to pre-empt. ( and hes quite good at it ) but limits him for roles. Too slow now for CHB. Yes Riv plays a spoiler.. and somewhat limited to that.. that is in itself the upside to someone like Joel. I think Bails is more and more leaning to versatility. Jared will need to show more strings. BP ? deathnell !!
  13. may I suggest you get off your high horse.. you..whose comments are often nothing..but a nothingness in itself. look in the mirror for glib !! Strangely i was actually discussing two players.. you like play with mud ?
  14. KS youre right ...in that there has been murmurings that Joel wanted to play in Melbourne ..Seems he also wants to play FOR Melbourne Lions might have asked too much given his predisposition to coming south anyway. Lions seem to have thrown a some bath water out without looking
  15. Playing supposedly differing roles is a bit of nonsense. Both are backmen. You can compare abilities and influence on a game ..and so on. For mine not wishing to compare and all but being apologist for Rivers only cements the reasoning that Riv is running a bar without a licence so to speak. Both are defenders.. one is better at it than the other...thats it..and all. But to humour the argument (discussion ) ...where would anyone put them ..if both on the paddock together ? keeping in mind there is Grimes, Warnock, Garland and Frawley
  16. yes.... more and more I like the way that the MFC have played this... They're getting quite good at cards ...now !!
  17. I disagree.. Macdonald plays as a utility back.. effectively where-ever needs filling. To be perfectly honest I struggle putting a particular position on Rivers. he used to be ok as a CHB but he's lost yards and is too easily out gunned. Rivers HAS to read the ball to be effective. hes more a spoiler than a rebounde. JM can do all that ..and more. I dont think Im too unkind regarding Rivers......whatever you think of jared is fine... but Macdonald is simply better. Dont rate Rivers as a leader at all ..sorry. Lets see jared get through the preseason and NAB.. hope he returns to some form...is better for us certainly as it provides choice. Curious is it not that the FD is looking at Macdonald ?? a back ?? despite all the hype of our defence the FD knows it better. It has doubts on some...as I read it
  18. seems we're not the only ones raising an eyebrow...lol Dons believe Ball behavior warrants scrutiny The AFL more likely to heed their concerns than ours. Ought to be interesting
  19. a little more wood on the fire .... Demons likely to swoop by George...these ol' Demon chappies are starting to look quite good...what!!!
  20. theoretically yes... practically...NO (66) Something Im sure a lot of us kep overlooking.. ( myself included ) is there are a lot of selections.. and strangely a lot of players..lol. We're nearing the end of our somewhat straightforward selctions at 18 with 34 and 50 likely to go speculative in one form or another.. At 34 some teams are only just getting into it, many only up to their 3rd selection. They ( other teams ) will still be shopping in the kiddies dept, let alone the trade-in aisle. Theres every chance Thorpe would still be there at 50. In the unlikely event Meesen or Newton go then thoughts of a rookie surface, dont like our chances though. 1 and 2 are obvious for all but order.. 11 and 18 likely to go tall... 34 and 50 will be best of the rest...from whatever vintage. PSd seems all but destined for JM now. Thats where it will finish
  21. touche
  22. Id rate Macdonald above Rivers in defence. Faster..better disposal. If we're looking to upgrade the defence, and why should we rest on any laurels as its OK..not brilliant them JM is a very good fit. Id be looking over my shoulders if I was Jared. Then again.. theres been a lot of speculation Garland may go further up the field. This ( JM ) might facilitate that. I think its fair to say that the FD knows pretty well what JM can or cant do..where as Thorpe needed scrutiny. Still nothing is certain..just yet
  23. best i can find is it gave Lions some cap room.
  24. givien the plausibility of throwing away PSD1...we wont and cant use 66 If we have made some form of commitment to someone totake at 1 ( psd) theres no slots left.. lets not get too cute.
