  1. lend of you hardly !! why would I.. read properly my fellow demon..I m saying he now needs to be totally accountable..or else. didnt you get that bit ? Theres more happening than just one loss.. weve hardly looked teh goods at all since last season..despite the early start.. despite all the rhetoric.. thats a reality. This weekend is a real litmus test..not just of senior players..but the coaches.. I actually want DB and all to succeed... funny that (shakes head in dismay !!) But its teh real game now.. hes come half way.. but i have nothign to suggest he can flip the coin yet and play a winning style. He has that to show. doesnt he ?
  2. get real....fair dinkum..the media are doing what the media do. They ARENT the ones failing on the field..they are the ones who are responsible for coaching the team. They are commentators and observers...in essence just like us but with a better medium and clout. Are we not casting our eye across the club ?? and what you dont expect them to either...especially with all the hype and psuedo subtefuge undertaken to get the players we now have. They want to see something ...so do I. In essence the media are the messenger.. they arent the originators of our doldrum.
  3. Whilst you can call to account the efforts of individual players the performance and nature of execution of those efforts falls wholy at the feet of the coach.. thats what they do (Coaches..coach ) !! If certain players cant or wont do his bidding then he must change them by selection or direction. if he cant.. again..its his responsibility to prepare a team for competition. If he is failing in this then its more than warranted that the spotlight ne blowtorch be apllied. Conversely if we do well..he deserves kudos.. .......................... if !!
  4. Well... despite.. all that seems to be going on..there really isnt much to comment upon at present.. we can simply summise were playing crap..and will do for some whiles.. and probably its going to be a long and painfull year. whats new ? There is one slight difference to this year. Bailey has used up his free passes. he now has to actually show something on the "positive" side of the ledger. his role to make provisions for drafts is done.. His real job now is to win.. simple as that. Only the timetable can be debated...not the goal. I must confess I am not nearly convinced now as i was last year or even more recently that a rush to sign has been prudent. I want the spotlight on him ( DB ) I want him to feel the seering gaze of 30000 odd members..I want him to know he is now 100% accountable for the performance of this team . Thats his JOB.. if he doesnt get us going then he fails....and if its patently obvious that he is failing I want the club to revisit the terms of endearment before the years out. If he CAN get us up and running then he is worthy. its pretty simple. Hes shown us he had mastered the art of Losing games ( as that suited ) now he must show us that he can master the art of WINNING games...as thats all that matters. Its nor for mine enough to be simply 'more competitive' as thats a style not an outcome. The old adage is that any team crossing the line must do so with the ideal if not the idea that they can win...so must we. Excuses will flow that injuries and youth are crippling us...theyre just excuses. Other teams in other years have had inexperience and made fists of the fight... so must we. And if we dont... Then certainly one person ought to be looking for other employment So keep that blowtorch fired up... we need it ...and how !!
  5. I entirely sympathise.. .. My son gave up on us years back...he still has a Dee jumper with 36 on its back..but has littel or no interest in footy anymore... "Demons suck dad !!"...hard to argue Daughter defected to StKilda years ago...cant really blame her either... she gleefully laughs at me often ..when they win and we dont !! She laughs a lot !!
  6. the more things change..the more theystay the same.. All the hype and hope doesnt disguise the reality.Long .LONG way to go !!
  7. Lyon-why I will never coach This is his statement to end any speculationor talk that he will or would want to replace Bailey.
  8. Police it ?? All payments must be divulged eventually to the Taxman. Theres no hiding from him. Whether a payment is by the club or on behalf of the club they ( payments ) only exist as a result of the player being a player. These payments wouldnt exist if say Ablett wasnt an gun AFL player. If the AFL doesnt tighten it all up it will be open season...it almost is as shown by some clubs. "Ambassadorial roles"....what a load of phosphate !!!
  9. again...I say it...the cap is a farce.. the AFL have to shut all this down and bring it all legitimately under the one roof of payments. And no camouflaging by calling it this or that...its a player payment...we know it they know it. If they dont I can see a couple of clubs going under in 5 years. Unable to keep up and field competitive teams.
  10. Interesting dont you think that in our new promo/slogan etc that Davey is front and center ...theres the hint I think....thats how the club is thinking. Hes put his hand up for it ...and I reckon they ( the club..its leadership etc ) have said...well show us..and its yours.
  11. Ages ago when we discussed promotion ideas etc .. be a few years back now.. I remember thinking I always thought the idea of the imagery of our dynamic demons marraied to The Doors...come on Baby light my fire would work well.. Well here's a fire !! Good to see then doing something !! Go Dees
  12. Fines threat over deals "THE AFL last night warned clubs of "massive" penalties if they cultivated outside payments to help keep marquee players. League operations manager Adrian Anderson said" the age Weve heard all this before...yet amazingly little is ever done.
  13. I think theres something in all of this. I agree that his is only the start. All payments must come under some sort of the same umbrella of capping. The longer nothing is done tostem the duality of accounting then more and more will move to outside the fields of control. This can only lead to shades of the bad ol days of power clubs and the others.
  14. I just get the impression you can pay anyone what yo like now ...just call it an ambassadorial role and its all cool. Its a joke....the CAP isnt one at all.. more a hairnet !!
  15. I hear what you are saying but as I see it this only deals with the process of going from A to B... does nothing to adress ex-party payments as obviously nothin gis in place at the present either...despite all the hot air from Vlad & Co. Free agency is an aside to all of this.. Underboard payments are a different issue..as i see it.
  16. on what basis ? It been shown now that is obviously a cinch to flout the cap. Why will it be any different with agency ? All Free Agency really affects is the method and availability of players to move between clubs. The money can still be rorted unless the AFL get serious. If anything free Agency will make extra payments more attractive...and required.
  17. Much is made about the Salary Cap. It supposd to be the governing limit of payments which brings an equalityto the league. It supposedly tempers the desires of the well-to-do clubs with those struggling year-to-year. Its touted as the Great Leveler, ht ewonder tool that evokes fair competition all the whiles providing an environment under which all clubs can fairly compete. And yet we in only days have seen such revelations as: AFL defends extra payments.. and Desperate Cats cast wide net for extra cash... Now , as but a lay appreaciator of the game I woul dhave thought these flew directly in face of the Salary Cap, to the point of all but rendering it a lame duck and a total farce. many observers have wondered at the financial dealings of say carlton and have cast their collective concern in the direction of other clubs over the years. The Richmond land-development scandal comes to mind. But all these were supposedly illegal fromteh sports point of contention and yet he we have anotherclub opening suggesting that the difference between its star staying or going will be how much it can conjur inthird party payments. Surely this is nothing more than condoned Salary Cap rorting by any other definition. Apparently it (AFL) feels there is onlyconcern for rorting whenFree Agency comes in, apparently the level of rorting now is acceptable? I though NO RORTING was the ACCEPTABLE stance. So not only is there an Elephant in the room but its trumpeting with abject abandonement. You either have a Salry Cap and enforce itwith gusto or..its open slather. There may as well be No salary cap if this is to be allowed to happen. Further to this it only confirms what weall suspected...there are no real rules for those prepared to flout them and in so doing Demetriou and Co show us again that the AFL is nothing more than Hypocrisy incorporated. Can we ( MFC ) compete where the norm will be having to package remunerations icluding 'ambassadorial' components ? Stop this now AFL..or it will be the ruin of this competition. You only have to lok overseas to understand what havoc awaits if you cant contain player payments.
  18. atm...any plan must be out of the KISS manual.. Until we can do basics consistently to a high standard we cant put any carts ahead of ourselves and expect finesse.
  19. Clint...youre making way too much sense..please desist as youre confusing the many!! The game is about scoring...not about having it the most...bit like dying with the most money...whats the point. Yes you do need it first...but its about scoring..after all..the highest score wins...its about as hard as that . Its risky i know to simplify it to such but many want a convoluted plan. Itsas others allude...you load up a side with skilled and talented players who can react well and in a positive manner. There are far to many permutations of events to often stick to a "plan" as you need a 100 exemptions per to accomodate what really happens. To play a purely possession game you need pinpoint accuracy and 110% fitness. We fail on both accounts presently...but hey..stay tuned
  20. Well in some respects I am bouyed by one particular example. A certain one James Frawley. Many wondered as to his potential and value when drafted in 06. A raw gangley tripping over his own feet sort. far too light to do any damage to a wet rag bu the has grown ( literally ) and morphed into quite a handy backman who's real straps have yet to be hit. This is the sort of time frame we will have to get used to in terms of it all coming together. Having said this... still no excuse for the poor execution of basic footy.
  21. did anyone hear ? I couldnt get the sen online to load..so missed out
  22. yes...and in that time North have probably had a First Aider with a box of bandaids.... yet they still do it...when we dont !!...something in their water perhaps
  23. ummm..yes he was !!
  24. Whats old is new......welcome back Drake !!
  25. thats all well and good....but you could say this applies to 15 other clubs. Not all acquitted themselves in a similar manner...did they? its not like we only just started last week...weve supposedly been honing the craft since October ...who da thought !!~
