Who will take the reins from Junior..?
beelzebub replied to demondomination's topic in Melbourne Demons
OK..having decided to obviously not read the meaning of my post.. Neeta was a FF .. Borwn is CHF who moves infiled at times.. Bolton a CHB who also played into the midfiled.. Both these situations allow for more impact into the game, more ability to involve yourself and rope in others. As a FF or FB your to some degree at mercy of the play.. Again Buckley's forter was to be able to actually turn games by lifitng in his ability to be at the ball and involves others. ..and again your very limited to do this at either pointy end. Yes thats why you have leadership groups...agree.. and maybe these leaders will be able to muster their colleagues in that particular area of the ground...but they cant influence in the way a midfielder type can. Yes have KPP in leadership roles.. but maybe a more utility type can better 'captain' during a game. Hardly makes the point redundant..augments it if anything. Just my opinion. -

Ideally the captain has the abilty to play around the ground some. Was always my thinking that even Neeta wasn't about to rouse the troops if the ball , indeed the game never came near. This was where Buckley shone for the Pies as he could install himself into the play and lift others. Bit hard to do from FB -
Worried ?? far from it...excited if anything. Not to disrespect Junior's departure but this team is forming itself as a unit, where players CAN be to some degree interchangable or replacable. we have depth and that depth will only become more adept with expereince and time. Yes there are nuclear players around which the teamall but revolves but as a Club we are finally gettiing to the point where its a Melbourne Team that goes out , plays and wins , not just this bloke and that with a few able satellites. In a strange way James end of time indicates the new way of thinking at this club. A club able to make bold decisions. There is an however, that the club makes sure it offers and provides all that is required to ensure the new crop come on in good speed. Weve cut the cloth..lets make the suit !!

Who will take the reins from Junior..?

Lets deal with the here and now shall we. There are a number of heir apparents acording to various observers. But who has the "C" factor right now. Who has that composure , the ability to muster the troops, to lead on and off the track ? Grimes is definitely in a group of those that will be considered in due course, but that will and ought to be a little ways away. This person also needs to be on the padock nearly all the time. Am not a big fan of injury prone captains ...sort of negates the effectiveness. I can see no reason why Green wouldnt be around for 3 or so years and that would work well as Captain. -

Thats a fair question..I think he was there abouts for many supporters without necessarily having stamped himself on the job. Hes done a fair campaign this year Nonsensical argument. Harley was picked because he was the most suited at that time. So do most in the red and blue.. not sufficient to take the honours of captaincy Yes....and Yes.... point ?? you dont pick a captain simply on age... its whether they aare captain material etc.. a good leader..and all that maybe as a sound lieutenant type...captain ?? we dont need to pick a 5 year cpatian.. just someone who is appropiate to the role for as long as required. -

At the beginning of the year I would have thought Davey was a very legitimate option but whilst his efforts this year are marvellous there hasnt been the hallmarks of cpataincy present. Green on the other hand seems more the General out there. Agree that Beamer and Flash make ideal VC candidates. -
Newton started the year listed as Rookie...something changed whether error ort otherwise. Its only really semantics in repsect to outcomes though
-
Jake still on the rookies list. Someone might care toclarify who gets nudged and where. I would expect Jake and Jordie to be elevated. Both likely to be offered 2 years I would think. If Jordie continues to excel they'll probably revisit his situation next year. Juice to go , other ( out of ) contracted rookies to go. We might utilsie the delist-rerookie ploy for any not quite making the grade (as yet ) but worth keeping on side , so to speak.
-
According to the MFC site Newton is actually listed on the seniors list not the rookie list, make of this what you will. Delisting him may indeed only make a spot on the rookies.. but thats been a goldmine for us, so not to be dismissed out of hand either way.

James McDonald - Retirement Announcement
beelzebub replied to DemonWorshipper's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thanks Junior .. Fantastic effort Now we have to hopefulluy keep fellas like James close to the club. Their stewardship and mentoring of younger players would be invaluable. -
a typo ? never !!! lol

To Borrow: Retire James Mcdonald (Veterans List)........Yep most likely Move from Senior List to Veterans List Brad Green...........................................as per Delist 1 - Michael Newton... hot/cold on/off ...bit like a flickering light bulb, more annoying than useful 2 - Daniel Bell....should be playing seniors by now...but isnt ...and thats that 3 - John Meesen... sadly end of footy life (playing ) for this young man 4 - Tom McNamara...doesnt quite make the grade ( trade unlikely...but if touted ) Rookiie Elevations J McKenzie... earned J Spencer...time to play with the big boys These are the seemingly straight forward list adjustments but do they in themselves cater to enough space for incomimgs? probably not. Players teetering on edge must be P Johnson and B Miller. In Johno's favour is that he does still get a gig...Brad doesnt...must be shakey. You have to ask what do Hughes and Healy really provide to the club on the R list ? probably 3/5 of not much....experiments without any real positive conclusions. You d have to think the club will look at seriously opening up space for more "'experiments". Keep in mind the club is also looking to pay 100%of the cap so it may well be looking to top up the pool in less expensive ways next year. and then the spectre of something happening via the Suns...watch this space

Splitting hairs possibly...but the poll asks about performance...not the measuring up to expectations.. This can be a very different level of play. Just a note.....thats all

Its going to quite interesting how views will have changed for some in a years time !! Watts is a work in progress.. and he'll have progressed a bit by this time next year. Find it somewhat amusing that he's expected to have arrived when hes really only just got here !
-
yep...not enough Jacks at the club...get more ..

The club...A+++ bloody fantastic effort The team B- for me. Thats nots critical...just realistic. Many areas to improve in but the ability is there.. Like the old school reports.. He shows ability and can do better with more effort and application. Needs to concentrate for the full term etc. were on our way for sure...but weve only really just a few miles down that track. Overall...a B

We wont need more mids ( not as a priority) we have them..they are either in need of repair or simply more games. They'll be ok and the in-50's will improve as a result of maturing. Its that nagging need for a strong ready to go bod down the sharp end. We may have a few to chose from in 1-3 years as internally grown come on...but a fixit for next year would be handy. Any more smokeys in VFL/SANFL/WAFL etc ? as unliley to get much trading or drafting ( conventional ) for a while yes an OX clone would be rather nice

What a position he'll find himself in. The Dees are on the march and he must ache to feel those deserved victories that await. And yet I hope he has the sense of occasion and inate timing of a champion to recognise that whilst he will have helped carve out that path he may not indeed be destined to partake of it.. Must be gut wrenching. Junior youre a credit to the credit and more so yourself. Heres a footballer whos conducted himself with unquestioned loyalty and efort for the club. Go out on your terms Junior but with an eye to history's clock. A hearty well done on your 250 games

totally agree... bball in the key is not for the feint hearted. So much for a non contact sport...lol. VERY PHYSICAL I still think its more the case as approached above that he knows his limitations , together with a lil bit of the fact that his body just isnt going to win some comtests.

There is only one thing that hasnt quite settled into place with young Jack and thats his 'presences" within the team. He still has yet to come to grips with his own self belief and the mandate he has. hes still very much the young pup trying not to upset some of the older dogs. He plays a very unselfish game...too selfless to be honest. he has to understand that in the great words of Forrest Gump."Just Do it !!!!" He needs to become comfortable with being the playmaker etc. He has ALL the components of a very good player, just needs to meld them into dynamic composite that beckons. Im sure he thinks to himslf at times that to do what just comes naturally to him migh tbe taken as lairising etc. He has an uncommon ability to use the ball but he doesnt feel the 'right' just yet. Hopefully this will change. Use the force Jack....and kick the bloody thign Glad to hear you feel part of the clan at Melbourne.

6 - Colin Sylvia 5 - Mark Jamar 4 - James Frawley 3 - Rohan Bail 2 - Cameron Bruce 1 - Jordie McKenzie
-
The Russian would have greater cause for feeling unlucky compared to Brad.
-
Frawley was a bit stiff and the HUn all but says that too. Green been in sparkling form but will be elbowed out by others with a little better and more consistent performances. Those rosey glasses can be a lilttle distorting at times hey !!

This ( the above ) is the essence. Weve been quite competitive especially against a few of the fancied teams but there wasnt quite enough in the cupboard. That wont always be the case. Another year will be quite diffeent. Good report there Scoop.
