Dont know about anyone else but my pockets arent limitless. You do what you do and can and then there comes a time that the 'who ' or 'what' youve been helping has to stand on its own two feet. From where I look they're pretty well planted on the ground now and i have every confidence ( now) that this Administration can and will survive. Debt Demolition served its purpose. You cant keep going to the well. The club needs to ( and am sure it is) put into place strategies and systems for the continued survival of the club, by the club and for the club .

Ricky Nixon !!!

very true... lucky , otherwise it was going to get dull .lol
-
Green Moloney and Davey are already in the leadership group, and along with Rivers are the official candidates for the captaincy.

Bruce's departure, along with others now raises the serious dilemma of: who are we all going to be divided on ? Frosty's gone.. PJ's gone... Bruce...gone What a strange coincidence that all those that seem to have divided opinion on these boards are no more....believe it or not !!! lol

There may actually be more than an ounce of reality about this line of thought. For many ( too many ) years weve been viewed as that granpa club A bit like a pair of comfortable slippers...its all warm and fuzzy without imposing too much. It wont suit many that the Demon is a live and hungry now Bruce will be regretting it the first time he lines up against us. They'll be a few wanting to correct his "misinterpretations" of his demise. btw Bruce, Brent says hello.....no...not that one !!!

You might like to cast yourself across to the Draft forum where much discussion on just this is already underway !!
-
FT that's very much the point. Circumstances conspired to inflate Bruces worth. Those circumstances have changed. That 'thud' you hear is Cam coming back to earth !!
-
Melbourne will of course talk to Anthony. To not do so would not befit the thoroughness with which the club now functions . It will also consider the fittingness of Thorpe . I will suggest it will simply overlook Neagle. both Thorpe and Anthony have something that could add a dynamic to the attack . Anthony a better pedigree perhaps and more runs on board, also dare I say ita better attitude, but pure supposition on my behalf . Did Jack peak already is the question. Would either represent better value than pick 53 ? And that's quite possibly yes . Neither represent plan A and that is what might cause the club to baulk and possibly seek a modable kid to be that plan A. I don't see either MT nor JA as the panacea nor do I see them as spuds. Is all about the plan and the fit !!

Quite insightful there Rpfc ( many here just inciteful, sometimes even me lol ) Really just comes down to Mfc think he's X Cam thinks he's Y. Cam fell under the spell of thinking he really ought to have been paid all that coin so surely that was the yardstick . The club just gave hima reality check. He's perfectly entitled to seek best rewards as are we perfectly entitled to see it all for what it is.

Whichever way you're buttered Anthony's currency is on the way up .Clever lad.

Where was I advocating picking against will ? Just noting our pick is before Freos . If he was interested were in the box seat of the three clubs being mentioned . Interestingly the Bummers just axes Neagle So possibly they're also interestedand they'd trump us. You'd think a 50 goaler a handy pickup . Still this wasn't our orig plan. Perhaps were at plan B. We do need someone to release Watts and Jurrah . Anthony youd have to think would force that of an opposition or have a field day with our improving delivery. The combo of these 3 would raise a mighty sweat on the opposing coach !! Will be interesting to see how such a move perceived by footy world I,e theucky bugger going to the Dees .. ( a desirable destination ) or otherwise .

the one we all have should we choose !! You have x number of positions to fill.. you dont have to use them al lup with Draft picks...you can leave one for the PSD.. why is this even a question

Our PSd pick is AHEAD of freo's

I for one would like to state that I'm more than happy with the potential those remaining at the club have to lead and mentor. With all this discussion about Junior and Bruce you could be forgiven for thinking they were all we had . Junior served well as the General, personally I have my doubts about what Cam brought to this equation but let's say for the moment there was value. We have more than enough in the likes of the candidates : Green, Davey, Beamer and Riv. Add to this the emerging mentoring given by Russian, constant input by Jonesy., Grimes is a natural with Chip a stalwRt down back. Where's this supposed vacuum of leadership ? Where is the concern ? One will go and another will realize their fate. Junior has gone ... Thanks mate , you've left a legacy and a style others may well choose to emulate . Bruce has departed, such is life . Miller moves on , etc etc . We have a fine caliber of leaders in waiting from whom to choose. Am happy to respect those that we have can take this team forward and upward. There is no problem

Seems strange many can't grasp a sime tenet . The MFC is all about creating a club who's structure and mantra is about sustained success , excellence in competition and ultimately the grand reward , premierships . In doing such it's not going to deliberately sabotage it's efforts by denying the club the talent and the services of such where possible . Some would have it the FD is somehow cutting off it's nose to spite themselves . The FD will maximize return wherever able but temper such enthusiasms with prudence and common sense . In this light had Bruce been worth a 2 year deal he would have been offered one. He wasn't, therefore he didn't warrant one. I'll trust the FD ... again !!!

Possibly RPFC was referring to AFL cubs ?
-
Why do you or anyone suppose the club is at fault in these negotiations ? Bruce was the one who went away to think one supposes . Melbourne had offer(s) on table . Just wasn't to Bruce/nixons liking. They docked around not the club . It wanted resolution , Bruce wanted to invoke what he thought to be leverage and he came unstuck and is now pointing the finger everywhere but at himself. This simply about a difference between how Mfc and Bruce saw Cams value and participation going forward. Players fit into clubs not other way round !! Cam bluffed and the Mfc called it. I actually took Baileys rhetoric about Bruce being at training today as a thinly veiled barb suggesting 'you're either with us or against us' !! Either sign or..... ( censored for the precious ones ) Make no mistake Bailey won't suffer anyone yanking his or the clubs chain. Well done MFC. Message sent to all and sundry.. We won't be messed with on or off the ground!! Good !!!

Well put Deeman. So many seem to forget what all this is about. Its a football club not a social club for good ol' boys in red and blue. Do the business end first; kick back and enjoy the spoils after. But do the business properly and thoroughly. Very much a new era for Melbourne. Sentiment is a wonderful notion but one you can afford only after youve won ( in this game)

maybe the Bruce threads ought be merged ?? seem to be the same thing now

or maybe ...is that you Ricky ?? lol The only real thing that irks me about al this is the timing of things and then the ridiculous posturing by the Bruce-Nixon camp to justify their failure. At seasons end all players are evaluted and briefed about life going forward. Undoubtedly there would have been a frank and fervent discussion with Cam as would there have been all others. Probably up until this moment the Bruce camp would think itll be pretty much "Flinders St , No change" The club would probably keep its most experienced players despite any misgivings about fitness or game-ripeness etc. Surely such bastions of the club would recceive favourable outcomes !! Then Cam got a very rude awakening. Melbourne doesnt work like that anymore. The work ethic as a team has lifted. The litmus by which all things are now measured is effective contributions. All players will be picked on merit. No more the days of 'list managemnet' no more the days of mediocre aspirations. The club had changed. With change comes new players and new staff. What was is now not. There will be casualties of such change. Junior was first. It would have beena very respectful meeting but a frank one. James, mate, loyal champion of all things Melbourne, we have to grow and in so we have to prune; thankyou but were sorry we cant guaranteee anything going forward. Maybe now is a good time, nudge, nudge..etc....etc. >>>> predictable outcome. Thanks Junior,,, youre a legend. Cam Bruces camp...a similar but not quite so time constrained. Cam, mate, its like this. All good things must come to an end and whilst a valuable player you'll be fighting it out with the kids. We make no pormises. Youre on the wrong side of 30, you know the clubs stance on this. a short time later would have been an offfer iin accordance to what the club feels is warranted and fair ( ALL things considered ) Now its at this point the Bruce camp ought to have made its move to seek greener and longer grass pastures. The club was being fair and upfront with him...surely it deserved the same consideration and respect back. But Bruce-Nixon decide to play the end game. They figure, incorrectly, that they can push Melbounre into surrendering to far more favourable terms . The more thay push it towards list time surely Melbourne will fold. How they got it wrong. So now Bruce will go to another team. Hell think he'll be guaranteed more but once the clouds lift he'll soon come to the realisation that promises can be broken, especially when this kid or that burgeoning talent just cant be ressited " you understand Cam, we have to play him....we know we said this...but things change !!" If simply going to another club to gain 'whatever' was all this was about then we , as a club could have accomomdated that and all parties received fair compensation. Bruce has had more than fair 'compensation' over the journey and this is how he returns the favour. To think he had the audacity to express outrage at the way anyone was supposedly treated; what utter hypocrisy !!. Pot...kettle.... Black !!

So are we to believe he didnt want to stay with a club purely because he might have to earn games ? Gosh... have a particular opinion of Bruce but that has never encompassed the notion hes soft nor lazy or would want a red carpet ride. So what is his real stance or has it changed by the day.Is it outrage that club stalwarts might be held to the same standards as any others in the team come selection. Is it that he feels all are equal but more equal than others. Is it money one day and 'special' conditions the next ?? Seems to be running with the hares and hunting with the hounds. Sounds far more like a Ricky Nixon Fable of convenience. All im getting is one side is contantly changing its story while the club simply said it had placed an offer on the table, one it thought fair and reasonable, Yes someone's spooked alright....by the notion hes getting on a bit and it all wont come quite so easily any more. There are no free rides at Melbounre ( any more) ....................... GOOD !! But stay tuned theres bound to be another spin on al this .....and then another....and then................meh

Junior respersented tru leadership on teh ground... there are others who will take the opportunity to step up.. Some big shoes...but doable. Sorry..is Bruce going really a loss ?? Not being facetious.. just his job is ably covered !!

And Melbourne forwards guaranteed a few passes and handballs... like having 19 on the field
