i know fully well how fotball is played. Or should be. There is far to much emphasis placed by theorists on forwards playing a defensive game. Football 101 ..aka the KISS principle sugests if youre doing youre job properly then its the oppsoition that ought to be concerned not you. If you are failing in OFFENCE then all you defensive guf is really for nought for your not doing the job you ought to be and thats being an effective forward. i.e the emphasis should always be for a forward on attack. If hes 'defending' his turf then hes really got it all arse about.

oh...and btw....for all the new age football scientists... teh best thing a forward can do is...... kick goals... ALl this crap about being offensively defensive or defensively negating or impacting the rebounding bloke all forgets the primary role of football....to kick goals....to assist in kicking goals and so on. The ideaof a forward is to worry the scoreboard and worry the opposition...not worry about the oppostion...its their job to worry about you !!!
-
Hate to do this to you ...... but i agree whole heartedly For some of his good work he simply stuffs up or stuffs around. Little impact for all his chest puffing.

what he said (essentially )

SUNDAY STROLL AS DEES HAVE FUN AGAINST THE SUNS
beelzebub replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Carlton in their game turned it into a training drill and their ver of the Suns was a little more formidable. Our effort was a dogs breakfast at times with the suns looking more effective than us. At no time did we look particularly slick and well drilled. How did this mob( suns) manage to impose any will on our supposedly solid defense? How does anyone completely miss the sticks from 40 in front? Sloppy fumbles, needless turnovers.. Ah yes but it's all good apparently ? Sorry , I expect more -
SUNDAY STROLL AS DEES HAVE FUN AGAINST THE SUNS

my my...some are so easily stisfied. I hope that one Dean Bailey isnt. Here we played what amounts to a VFL grade team and theyeven managed to beat us out the gate and take the choccies for a qtr. And some of you lot are crowing like weve done it..weve made thegrade.. weve done nothing.. Yep we knocked some kids around but in all honesty you ought to be giving that lot a 100 pt start each game such is their disappointing standard and yet they manage to string 3 goals together ...no one else has suffered that yet. They actually led at the start...such is our dismal opening ability. We struggle to hitthe side of a barn with our kicking so attrocisious is it at times you have to wonder whether we're AFL or schoolies. Imhappy we won. Im happy to take the four points But im not really happy about much more from that game. Some of our defensive pressure leaked like a sieve. Some of our kickins were comical...might as well walk up and hand the ball to the opponents ffs !! Any other team would have punished our hundred of errors but for the inexperience of the Suns we were made to look OK...not good...but OK Dont bother with any feeble humidity excuses... there were no ice vests or cool rooms it was just a bit hot and balmy...same for both sides and weve played in far worse. They tired first and we pounced. In a fashion we were junk time kings. There was nothing really to get excited about from that game. We need to play far far better, with more skill and aplomb if were to be taken seriously as finalists I give a C+ Have ability , need more application and can do far better ( and will need to ) -
dont take this the wrong way expats but that wasnt a particularly pretty win. It was against teh Suns. They...THEY made us look ordinary at times. Just how pathetic is that. The score is flatering. Our kicking skills must be near the leagues bottom. . Humidity smidity... weve played in it before..if you rol lthat out youre definitely looking for excuses for poor skills and fitness. We ran over a bunch of kids today... had Ablett and Brown been playing then the score would have been nowhere near so flattering
-
I know it sounds all but ridiluous to be unsatisfied to the poinnt of annoyed with a 90 point win but that was not a particulalrly skillful win. Many blatantly simple errors. Poor kicking.. ( actually to the point of abysmal ) Thats 4pts the hard way really.
-
10pts to go
-
bury them...nothing else is really acceptable
-
This so called team of demons are really not up to their namesakes... just not in the same league as the filth...hate to admit it.
-
melbournes kicking is attrocious...who ever is the skills coach needs a kick himself...right up the rear !!
-
No Abblett...No Brown... Melbourne by 100...or else !!!!!! lol
-
No.. I tend to think his gathering abilities are great...its what he does with it and how is particulalrly one dimensional. Once he has the pill its predicatable what he'll try. Makes it very easy for oppositions. If he kicks it...defend the area 50m further. If he gets the ball apply the second tackle as he'll stil lbe attempting to utilise it by then. Its not just me who notices this..many of my "other team' mates have pointed it out.. Hes all g'n'd. and thats wonderful to a point. It worries me hes to oset in his ways to morph up to a more dangerous player by opening his eyes and usiing his nut !!
-
Still concerns me that he was even out at that time.... let alone getting [censored]. Horribly unprofessional and very disrepectful to his team mates. Thats what annoys me most.
-
lol...its a fluff piece for the chior. Written about a GC team for GC consumption. What else do you expect them to say after two hidings ?? its a bit of a rev up for their own supporters. Thats all... Dont be gullible enough to bite !!
-
Finally...a bit of Mongrel !!!! well overdue. Finally some players awoken from their comotose lethagy Finally...berated for not performing Finally...stop 'developing' and start demanding they play 4/4 Theyve been kid-gloved far too long....gloves are off Now...Back it up !!

Actually I'd disagree about seeing the true colours or ability of a coach when he has that "decent" set of players to contest with. Like the situation with the Aussie test team of some years back. Full of talent, disgustingly so the team all but played by itself. It hardly needed a captain . Then the team lost it's gloss and needed true leadership and direction and fell in a heap. The test is when you DONT have that ideal set Of players but instead have to be savvy and clever with what you DO have. When our talent blooms it will gel naturally and you'll have a team like the Lions did, like West Coast Did have etc . It will play great footy because they simply have it in them. The coach will all but go along for the ride. The true litmus is when you don't have that perfect set, or a set not quite mature enough but you still have to play the play. That's when game-mouse comes out, thats when a team is truly 'coached' We're waiting !
-
All in all you sometimes wonder if the team showed as much passion and verve, as much disregard for the other man and as much grit in owning the pill as we do any subject of thread then we'd have the greatest team of all !!!
-
Yeah , Jim Stynes is a sook !!!!! Fancy getting disgusted after that fantastic effort.
-
Further food for thought but in the Jimma vein of things. Bailey was not a Stynes board appointment. Yes they've extended his tenure for this year but there's no new contract to speak of. I'd be pulling my finger out if I were a Melbourne Coach !
-
Mike there was nothing about the Hawks game that you could hang a hat on and think we're actually advancing as a team. It reminded me of a thrashing they handed out ar seasons start a few years back. Have we come nowhere since ? Old habits and mindsets were all on display Sunday. It's not the loss it was it's manner that concerns many. It concerned Jim, it concerns me but he's able to do something directly.
-
Flying Cloud we were somewhat flattered by their first half inaccuracy... Had that been 12 11 instead of 8 15 then it'd probably paint a more realistic picture of where the game was. The last qtr was semi junk as result was in the bag.
-
There are horses for courses. We need a coach to help develop and mentor youth as they come on. We also need a Wiley game day strategist, lucid of events and quick to act/react. I don't know if Bailey is both, though certainly the former. Even if it wasnt meant as a public announcement Stynes would be aware of the weight his words would carry. Everyone is now left with no vagaries as to what needs to happen next. There is to be no apportioning failure to the supposed better opposition there ought to be ownership of failure and the ackowledgement of such. Now Dean repeat after me: "we played crappy football" , then do something about it, after all you're in the drivers seat.
