Morton , like his coach , has a limited time to argue his cause. Only one way to do it and that to play some decent footy at the level of his potential In doing this he needs to really put his body on the line. Its al lbefore him...other wisie he can go stand in line with the other cloggers. Good teams realise the potential of their charges , astute ones figure out which ones arent going to realise that potential and off load them whilst others still feel theyre worth a punt. Weve had a history of this.. we need to be cleverer. I , for one hope Morton can step up. He has real ability...not everyone delivers on it...thats life. If he doesnt start soon...id trade him in a heartbeat.. Maybe GWs might be generous with a pick..who knows. We have to make Melbourne a "Clogger Free Zone "

Its not necessarily speed per se...its timing. So much about this game of ours is taking on elements from others. We got zoning and presses frombasketball.. backwards kick switches from soccer etc. That i suppose we ca ncontinue to steal parts for explanatory reasons. My thoughts re the press is you not only need to expect it but you need to work it agaisnt them. In Bball you can actually invite the opposition into your trap by feigning 'indecision' This is done to allow your men time to work themselves into their relative positions and prepare for your real offence. In footy analogies you might need to wait til enough space exposes itself behind the forward press. Its about nerve. You need to hold it and beleive in your team mates. This is really lacking currently. When the prerequisite targets make position and the opposition feels comfortable in their pressure you act decisely and positively . You make the contest ( down the ground ) your. You make it, you own it. Thats the mindset. You need to be all at it when you actually execute. When youve done this a number of times you gain the high ground in the mental game that is the REAL game. Much of footy is between teh ears. The team that beleives has the chance to actualise their game. The team that doesnt is doomed to react. We react. Essentially you are waiting til you sense they are surging you , they come into your 'trap' Opportunites will present as very narrow windows. You need to 'go' and go with belief. The appointed players will peel away from what seem their appointed task but is really their take off positions. Ideally the ball falls somewhere near where teh traiing sessions have it doing so. at this point hopefully the ball is passed the wall and you have weight of numbers and momentum towards your goal. Its remarkably similar to beating the flood. Probably because both are similalry based in intent. One thing for sure is the longer you dick around handball from one pressured player to another then its only a matter of time before the turnover Thats the whole point of the press, to cajole you into a mistake.

Yep...remarkably simple isnt it.. You kick pver the press. Who's da think.. In a game called footy the answet is to kick the football. Revolutionary stuff Of course there are several caveats and RM alludes to them. It can only be done with some modicum of skills. The ball must be delivered to predetermined positions. Players must know and be dedicated to the notion that the ball will drop in teh drop zone and they MUST be there to mark or contest it. No IFS..no BUTS !! probably beyond us presently (especially when we go into games with a defeatest stategy )

Wouldnt ya just love to see some "hard at it, take no prisoners, take no backward steps " type of forward footy at Melbourne ? Firstly , like him or loathe him one thng for suyre the word SOFT just isnt in his vocabulary. Secondly, he has a pretty good footy brain. I rate him highly. Bring it Dermie

This game really isnt as complicated as some pundits would have us belive. Yes the nuances change from time to time but the essences dont. Back to basics Melbounre... play with conviction.....you know... like you actually believe in yourselves.. Forget what anyone esle say...even teh coaches, if you beleive you can play, then do so.

This season is over.. We begin the next one now...Its all about how we do so.

kicking.....the ball ?? youre just being silly now its not called handball for nothing !! Love going to the Handy to watch the Dees. kicking....pffft ...lol funny !!!
-
^ poignant a sad but true account. Many seem to think its about Bailey per se.. Its not.. Its about the doldrums our playing group finds itself in. Id love Bailey to be successful and instrumental, if we were to be triumphant. But we languish in the mire in the same we we have since,... well, since.,... I can remember .

Chip probably uttered something like "thanks mate" to Juice after the game

Funny when words come back to haunt : Recently a certain Coach was heard to invoke of his charges , to be Bold, to be Brave !!! Shame he wan'ts so convinced himself as to set a team to win, instead of containing a loss !! Ah yes.,.....Bold, Brave stuff that !!!
-
yeah.. i wouldnt so much have a go at Chipper as he had to al lbut reach back.. A very poor pass.. it ought to have been put 5 m out in front of him to run onto..Thats what we did back in teh day , before negative footy came onboard Was a poor pass. Thats all ...its our forte, part of our reknown skills set

gold !!! I second all that !!

To the clowns who wanted more exapmles of strange moves.. How about Watts to the roaming backman role ( in itself fine ) but without any covering of the missing forward ?? Brilliant tactic.. One of his best to date...Bravo
-
Actually Ive no problem with where Watts roams. At least it gets him into the game.. Its very Reiwoldt in that mannner. The problems was we were under-represented back in the forward arc.. If the plan was to let Jack run around rthe selectors ought to have made sure someone else was up the sharp end. and/or..Bailey should have thought it through a bit more. I suppose he did though.. he accomplished his goal..We lost magnificently !!
-
Kinda funny all those suggesting Vineys a lame assistant. , for hes not even an assistant. His role is with player development and has no real involvement in teh training or game day. He has been a very good assistant.. but it hasnt yet ooccurred at Melbourne. Maybe its time he did get some hands on.. he might just nudge ( or thump ) a bit of passion and immediacy into some of these skiers !!
-
A glaring problem last night was on the very rare occasions we put the footy forward..its was to whom ?? Was a joke. I know theres this wonderful fad these days of players roaming al over the joint.. but can we at least keep 1 real forward in the arc..please !!
-
last night was really all about: Bailey had obviously capitulated before the first bounce and teh insrtuction was to defend a blowout. In a sense he accomplished this but when a team wearing my colours starts this sh!t I wont bother going. Its part of the mental weakness of our side that we didnt really try to win the game. You could see it written all over the 4 qtrs. just rubbish

The problem with Morton is his disposal kills us. His net worth on teh field is a negative. i.e for anything good he does, he does more damage using it ( the pill ) You cant have that , its like allowing the opposition a 19th player.. sort of reminds me of a recently departed Dee

Howe needs to be on the paddock..he wil provide a target.. pick another sub

havent you heard....... there isnt one !!! the closest we come is :

Where is the fight? Where is the spirit?
beelzebub replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
Shhhh !! careful...they might hear you you'll be labeled a torch bearer, teh apologists simply wont have this. Its all down to the lack of cattle..yada yadda yadda !! I enjoy watching the games whether live or the box when with mates who arent always Dees. They often offer up interesting , non-biased, insights. A glaringly obvious one you touch upon is your point 2) A reason Judd often looks so damn good ( besides being so ) is that many of his kicks and /or especially handballs are flicjed out to what could be seen as a dumb empty space...but before you can verify that a Carlton player has assumed that void and received yet another inspirational Judd disposal. Yes they run hard. They run relentlessly. They know they are expected to either provide the options or be on teh receiving end , just like the drills at training. Then theres us...."oh the shame !! " Yes we looky mighty pretty at training, but we dont do it when it counts. All I can say is theres lots of Red and Blue passenger trains in Melbourne...and they dont all run on tracks !!! -
and just by way of interest whos responsibility/job/concern is it to not only encourage, but demand, that the effort required to do so is in fact given ? just curious

Ins Howe, Trengove as definites possibles .. Scully if ok, . Lets have a look at the likes of Blease...evn Strauss at some point Outs from... Bate., just doesnt want to take the game on. Morton... back to Casey til you loearn to kick soon, just woeful. Nicho, nice try...maybe next time. Bennel... maybe learn to go where the bal lIS, not where its not ( as Dyer would have put it ) Ricky Bobby.. very lacklustre currently. My thinking . Well Trengove and SCully are self explanatory. Give the engine room grunt and poise Howe gives a viable target up fron esp if Watts is roaming around down back. Blease and /or Strauss to possibly give teh run off half back that Petterrd and Morton seem desperately not to want to give.
