This is interesting isnt it. For a number of reasons. Its in stark contrast to us where we are arguably either going nowhere, backwards or round and round , certainly not onwards and upward and yet nothings a certainlty at carlton and Ratten knows it. The bar is set ever so differently there. The other is Carlton actually expect success as opposed to the position we take is one of hope ( often abject ) I often wonder why we bother calling ourselves Demons.... Theres a certain expectation of menace and destruction about them. Im sure no other team particularly finds the thought of games against us as omenous and it sickens me to be of that realisation. At times i honestly wonder whether this is really an AFL club ( with serious intent ) or Benevolent Playgroup with some form of Sporting Existentialist Beliefs !

We have some hard and draining games immediatedly ahead against Geelong, Carlton and WestCoast. before the supposedly lighter trot to the finish. I see two danger games; against the Toiges and beleive it or not the Surfer Boys in the last round. They are growing bit by bit. If Collingwood are the benchmark then they did far better than us. Im not counting anything as a given and only an idiot would when comes to Melbourne as we simply dont have a track record to hang anything on. Id like us to win all othe games we can. I dont actually like losing, am just used to it. So..for the sake of discussion lets suppose we only come away with 9. Is that Deans death sentence ? The big names many want will simply not be available. The tried and tested hope and saviour wont be coming. But do you persevere with what you know even though you just know exactly where youre going ...i.e..nowhere. Or do we go to the well again just in the manner that even Geelongn did and possiblyt the Doggies are seriously considering ? Many here dont rate Laidley and thats ok, I do. Id seek his interest. Id be looking around to see whos the next wonder boy off the ranks as well. Theres a handful. Sanderson is often mentioned in despatches. who else ?

And keep in mind even if we do get those 10 wins in the manner some pundits suggest they would be as follows: Brisbane x1 Gold Coast x 2 Adelaide x 1 Essendon x 1 Fremantle x 1 Richmond x 2 Port Ade x 2 So we would have accounted for only 7 teams out of 16 . of those We have a basket case...and its neighbouring cousin. We have the Newbies and a team reknown for inconsitent and often dreadful performances in Melb. Now comparisons are fraught with pitfalls but even in 2010 we managed to beat ( teh above sans GC ) and well only other team was Sydney. .. And we toed to toed with the Maggies !! So you might even say weve gone backwards ??? All in all a sublime performance ne c'est pas ??

Am I alone in believing it s got all too cosy cosy down at Demonland ? I am sure that Bailey is every bit as good a 'development' man , a mentor type to the young etc but Im stil lnot seeing that he has the Ire required to get some moving a bit faster than they currently do. Again and again I wonder which applies. Does Bailey indeed have gameday nous but the players are failing to heed his directions ( thats a problem ) or does he NOT have the plan(s) to win games on days when all is thrust his way ? ( again, a problem ) Are players failing to understand exactly whats required of them (...thats another problem ) Are players being taught/instructed the wrong skills/gam ( guess what...yep... problem ) Whatever the problem, or combination there of... we're not really gettting very far, if anywhere !!

The problem with Jareds game and I believe it was the idea of the OP to if not address it , then certainly to notate it , is hes very one sided. Heis beeter game is about defending. And thats a warrant attribute for a ...Defender. But in todays game, at breakneck speed thats not enough.. Fowards are expected to have a 'defensive' game nad conversely Defenders must need to bring along an 'attacking' addendum to their bags of tricks. Jared very very little of this and this is highlighted time and time again when hes got the ball, with time to consider what to do with it. His effectiveness is often nullified at these moments by poor disposal, or poor decisons of what /whom to give it to. The OP also bring s to the table his lack of urgency often. Melbourne is actually noted as one of the "play on " teams. Jared must have missed that memo.. Often takes a while to do something.. Opposition all manned up. say no more. Its a shame.. for he does have a good 'defensive ' game.. But hes not keeping in stride with the game. Still probably just my view.

I agree.. Games are are not all equal. it is possible we can come away with 10 wins. Only wins to Above-us teams being Freo and Ess.. It hardly speaks volumes of any improvement let alone the strides all and sundry expected of us this year. 10 wins will have meant we will have won only TWO more games than last year.and interestly not really added to the teams we have won games to. We will have futher extended the "wood " over Port !!! oooh.. Achievement !!! ( Speaks more about how woeful Port is than how good we are) We effectively will be no better placed along our path.. It essentially is a monumental failure. Good to see the bar is wel land truly set at mediocre . Its ok ...we're only ever developing.

I dont know that were a second RATE club....but were definitiely playing second fiddle football ( at present ) I couldnt see that this is really an issue other than for those who themsleves might feel they are in the firing line for the next round of DCM's. If youre performing to the level expected then you wont have a worry. For some this might have been a rude wake up call that the club is exiting its softie culture...and thats good..Keep them keen ! see above I dont think Bailey will ever ben crucified for the early years of his tenure. In many ways he took to that task admirably. The cull was enacted, as was necessary and the real job of getting on with building and winning was commenced. . Its that we dont seem to have much of a clue at many times about winning that irks many. Its not actually whether you do win as such ( though thats far preferable ) its the notion of whether theres a methodology in place to achieve this. Good team know how to craft or invent a win, ours seems like the raffle wheel has just fallen our way at times. Often not convincing and especially against teams that offer comporable if not superior opposition.

I have posted similar elsewhere, in terms of the nature of the train. Well from the day youre born youre actually heading towards the inevitable death. Its the journey and way its taken that defines us all. You can grow and die at the same time !! We all want 100%... but it shouldnt require our desire it ought to be within players of this level already. Why is success irrelevant ?? Its the goal of growing surely ?
