  1. Umm.. hes just landed the biggest sponsorship in our history... It will stll leave space for another major sponsor(s) to utilise whatever space on strip is left. Thats a poor return ?? Not sure how you arrive at that.. We will have MORE money...surely thats a win..Well done Schwabby
  2. Should we retain him...I hope youre right. . Murphys achievements certainly shade Toms to date..Albeit Murphy achieved a lot quickly. I hope Scully's knees result in as litel impairment as did Murphy's shoulder, but am more worried about them than I would a shoulder. Be handy wouldnt you agree if Scully could at least kick like Murphy ?
  3. Another coup for AFL.. StGeorge must be spewing..lol *** (***total fabrication and tongue in cheek.. have to for those incapable of humour )
  4. interesting you say that as I would agree 100% In essence..all players ought to be...shouldnt they ?
  5. Careful how you dress up facts. He, Davey, won the Bluey in 09...yep... had a standout year.. sublime 2010 however wasnt really within a bulls roar of 09 if anyones honest 2011 before injury wasnt even as good as 2010. Thats just what is you would like to think after 8 seasons wed have some idea about him and where to play him. Not saying we do...but youd think we ought to
  6. Dees on the attack to hold on to Scully Im very much in two minds about al this.. Puttig aside for the moment all the shnenanagans and whats and ifs about whehter hes signed or not already but looking at teh player himslef and worth to us going forward I can see two vastly differing outlooks. On the one hand we have our #1 draft pick. Apparently the best thing since sliced bread. Many consider that holding on to this prized recruit is the cornerstone of our progress. Without doubt hes a talent. There would be difficulty providing an argument that he isnt worth hanfging on to and that a seeming tendency to injury he might we ldevelop into something special. To be honest and this isnt a case of bashing for bashing's sake apart form a game or two I really havent seen that much to get all gooey over. Hes good and can be costly. He favours his hands far to omuch compared to disposal by foot . Granted a lot of his work is in close and the foot in thsese instances isnt an option. He is a very good link pin. I wonder though if thats just to omuch to his game. Hes likened supposedly to a Judd inthemaking but Judd has many many more strings to his bow..and always did. I say this not todenegrate the lad just to put his skills in perpsective. His kicking needs work, lots . His decision making is pretty good. I think many anoccasion when he looks decidely silly in the outcome its as a result of no one being ablke to back up his quickness of hands....and it goes to teh wrong person or is fumbled. Not really his fault but he needs to understand it when disposing. He is smart and does get arond the ground a bit. Some games he's quite instrumental others Im not sure what hes tryiing to do , but again that mightbe the rest of team lagging. He does tend to view the game like chess and tries to position a move or two ahead of play. He might need to constrain himself as there arent too many Fischers or Kasparovs in Red and Blue. But how good ? which brings us to how much ?? Personally Im not happy with the haste ( by some ) to all eggs in the one basket approach to securing him. The numbers bandied around and we'll just have to take them as read currently are 5 M over 5 y to GWS. MFC offerig 3M. Could we reatain himfor somewhere in the vicinity of our offer then that would be a marvellous outcome. Despite what many might see as a stance otherwise I would keep him. But not at any price. I sense the club needs to be verry careful in where it positions Scully's value as the knockon might just bring our ability to keep the rest of a developing core together might prove untenable. Is 3M enough ? Well hes only a second year newby really. hasnt played as many games as we would have hoped. His development is a littel compromised as a result. Ive no doubt his professionalism would address this as an objective but will his tendency to injury curtail to a degree this ideal? Theres an idiom "Rush to Judgement" that warns of haste in making decisions. it often happens as an outcome is desirable ahead of prudence. I would hope the MFC keep this in mind. Thats all
  7. By all means OLd.. we fall foul of folly from time to time Youre going well
  8. I do think its a pretty realistic call to suggest we are very very flat after Darwin. If we cant do it with a bye following we ought to give it away. NAB and pretend games by all means...not real ones for four points. Unless im misinformed even the locals dont play footy then !!

hell Billy...lets suggest we'll go 5 for 5 while you at it At best we'l lscrape 3 wins and Im not so sure against Richmond just at the moment. Theyre getting besaten but they dont give in. I thought Bradburys effort was marvellous.. Just shows to go what you CAN acheive when you NEVER give in. Dont ever questionmy loyalty to this country you fwit
  10. Thats a construct of yours. Poor effort..come on ..lift your game. If Colin played to his ability ..at leat 3/4 of a game..and say for 4 out of 5 games then he may well be of the ilk many here would have him, i,.e invaluable to the team. But as he doesnt. Then how does such an argument hold water. It confounds me..as it does more than a few here. So many are prepared to qualify his retaining on the basis of his "possibilities' and little on his actual performances. According to some hes in the 3 of must keeps. Yet last year , a far more balanced and effective year bay any ones account he only managed 5th in our own evaulation. Seems reasonable to suggest hes slipped a bit from that. Its supposed that teh more experienced . more able, and talented of a team ought to rise to the surface, especially under duress and adverse conditions. These are the exact occasions when many here, not just I , suggest Colins game goes well off the boil and his effectiveness becomes hard to measure, being that little. Tell me one game hes really stood up in this year?? where there was real pressure and he had to make a real fist of it ?? I'll wait oh..and p.s He failed to even make the best list against the nuffs nuffs on teh weekend..I mean really ??
  11. lol... it probably doesnt sit well with some that the kids are playing better than their supposed superiors. But its clearly the case All youve offered is a statistic which of its own neans nothing other than a count of games played. Youd think then surely that Sylvia having played 119 would be street s ahead and far more impacting in a game, certainly more than those ive mentioned..But he isnt.. again ,,what was you r point ?? ( quietly sips )
  12. As youve taken the time..so will I Well how about weget away fronm the idea hes ever really been up on form !! Okay, so unless he is playing like Judd, Hodge etc heis continually falling short is he? Hesnot playing up to his own ability let alone a Judd !! The suugestion that he would rip it up in other top teams suggests he reallyhasnt the A game himself but would rely on others giving him a leg up. Yeah Iwant to throw money at thatkind of p;layer.....Theyre called.. 1st classpassnegers. He is already performing at a solid level in a veryaverage team.......like Leigh Brown at the Pies.....better team betterperformance! Solid ? Hes hardly been seen in the tougher games. So by your inference if he remains with us ( and we're likely to remain a bit averagefor a while ) then he too will remain underperforming. What he cant raise thebar himself ?? Thats quality !! Seems odd to me that a player in the 'negotiating " frame isnt even ableto get himself flying to self promote. This has been a past ploy of Bruce,Green, Davey, Robbo and OOze. Green also unable to show any form in a contractyear.( this time_..but he has other worries. Slyvia hasnt...just needs to goout and 'rip it up"...but cant Has shown good form over the past few seasons, and shouldexpect an improved deal as a result Afalse premise.. Hes shown form in spurts..thats all. Dont over dress reality People need to stop comparing him within our own team. Our team is riddled withholes. Compare Col to the outside world for a more robust assessment. andmonetary level. Do you even know what he is asking for??????? Put Colin a position to entertain the outside world, and the market will dictate whathe is worth......he would be very well sought after! And letting him go justadds one more hole to our team! Dontyou ? Been reported inteh realm of 450 + p.a without those niggly performanceissues Hes not a midfielder. He an outside running flanker. That up until the weekend, led the team in tackles Lookwhere they were..which games.. If Colin isnt the player the club wants...afterr 8 seasons, then the wayforward is to get a player the club wants. cant make silk out of a sours ear as they say..He is what he is....and alwayshas been . A player dogged by inconsistent efforts despite having talent. Has made considerable improvements in consistency overthe past few seasons........not unlike Daniel Wells who was drafted a yearbefore him, and has only this season found consistency Yourekidding arent you . He started to show form then has slipped back badly thisyear Bit like the school kids report. Has ability , needs to apply himself. its thatsimple. He has it, he doesnt do it. Has it all before him ....and doesnt. No, he actually does perform, but clearly not to yourexpectations. From where he has been to where he is now is a bigimprovement..........will he ever be a Judd or Hodge, not a chance, but he canstill be a very important part of the team in the future Please...openyour eyes. .Its all based on what youhope. Its not just my expectations but clearly the clubs hence the performanceclauses etc.. Am I alone here on this forum suggesting hes not up to scratch ??No. A lot of people need to step back and observe our team and its constituentplayers a little more dispassionately and see many for what they are. Overpaidand underachieving. I have no problem doing that at all, and if you look atmy original post, I never said throw the MFC vault at him, simply that he isimportant, and we need to keep him, as I don't believe more speculative draftpicks are the answer right now Whosto say what we would eventually end up with as result of tradiing him It hurts to do so as many consider anyone in a Melbourne jumper beyondreproach. Theyre just footy players doing a job. Some not that well. Othersbeyond their reward. Well I don't, but I do consider Sylvia an importantplayer going forward. We don't know what he is on, and we don't know what he isafter to even begin to make an assessment of whether he is or isn't overpaid. Seeprevious Id like to be giving the likes of Jordie and Watts , Trennerrs , Gys etc someof the money that some of the "prima donnas " are getting under falsepretences. Thses guys have only a couple of seasons behind them..andconsisently put in....a concept Col wouldt know. How about we move to retain real team players... real contributors...not thepretenders. The stats listed earlier show he is putting inconsistently, so not sure why you keep going down this path, and paying anyplayer who contributes should absolutely be paid accordingly Repeat..repeat repeat But there'll be a truck load of excuses no doubt , for Col...and all they areis that...excuses. I don't think there are excuses to be made, you justclearly have a different perspective on his performance to me, and subsequentvalue Yes..Iand others clearly expect him to play 4 qtrs per game to his ability and nbo gowalkabouts when the going gets tough..clearly not your standards
  13. I'll risk that !! lol The notion some think he's in the top 3 is with all repsect laughable. Here's a quick list of those ahead of him Watts, Trengove, Mckenzie, Frawley,Garland, Jamar, Martin Dogged pursuit ?? Hardly. I simply refuse to lay down to those who'l continually make all the excuses under the sun for underperformers. Be careful of stats. If you'll care to annalyse them you'll see his amasses most against lesser opposition.. and few against real pressure. Hes a junk time king. Im happy and waiting for him to show me completely wrong.
  14. Now you go stand in the naughty corner with Quenie.. What on earth are you doing spruiking realism ?? tsk tsk
  15. Lets see...if were to play this game Davey - Currently standing still. arguably getting back to form after injury. But what is the real level of this form now. The Ultra damaging davey has it seemed left the building. Shame really. Hes not earning his quid ( hes not alone )Something's not right with Aaron. He needs serious mentoring and encouragement to play a forward role. Possibly in tandem with bro Jurrah. If not.. trade him.Current contract looms as his last otherwise. Jurrah -Hes suited to a team with more damaging and by requirement minding, strong lead forwards. . Im going to give Liam a pass this year as his situation is so unique. He has serious community problems . He will however need to make a real decision soon. Leader, or footballer. maybe he just cant shoulder both. Thats not his shame. Im hoping he can be allowed to play again to his max. Fingers crossed. Bennell - Trade him if poss... Not for us Jetta - Another pre season and better coaching might see him blossom.. A decent enough project player Wonna - You just get that sad feeling his wil be one of those stories. A charasmatic player of ability struck down by circumstance and never realised potential. Just cant see him here next year. Lawrence - Shows promise.. , some ways to go yet. Watch this space

  18. Seems the easy answer is to continually throw money hand over fist at underachievers in teh blind hope one or two might decide to actually play 4 qtrs of decent footy. Hell that works for me ...not!! As much as its up to the player themselves to take responsibility for their effforts and contributions its also up to the club to manage itself in an acccountable manner. If it gets lazy in its scrutiny and standards then it will get exactly what it deserves....and we have. This has to change in order for us to change. Cols 8 years into a career at Melbourne and all he has ever really produced other than a handful, literarly a handful of top performances , is a whole lot of " i might really turn it on one day" This attitude isnt tolerated nor even allowed to develop at the really successful clubs and it ought not be acceptable to us...but it has been and some would still have it as ok. Leopard, Spots !!
  19. Old..I think Harrington oversees contracts
  20. To get a really good rose bush you have to prune...and prune...and prune.. Same with grapes.. You want a better than average vintage then youre careful what you blend. Colin is like some attest just like Trapper.. ..all over the place. Its not worth the moments of 1st class play to sacrifice the overall makeup of the team.
  21. we always did !!! some see him as everything...and hes not. Never was. He worth keeping..just not at any expense and only with reasonable expectations. Im inclined to let this fish go and take the compensation and start again, a little wiser etc youre probably right about the care factor currently ..lol
  22. youre not talking about.......Smoke and/or Mirrors ?? surely not Its a mugs game
  23. Here we do differ greatly. I wholey support the team and club. But individuals do not get carte blanche. Theyre expected to put in to the best of their abilty ( let alone their paycheck ) . If they dont theyre accountable. I dont accept your premise one bit. To support anyone blindly is to accept mediocrity...and youre perfectly placed to do so.
  24. Queenie Queenie Queenie...you ought to knw far better than to start using logic and common sense. Now go sit in the naughty corner ...go on...off yo go. And dont come back til you can offer up something more akin to "hes the mesiah, we're never going to win without him, hes Judds lost cousin" Consider yourself chastised !!!
